If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

Summer in Temba and Sh'Ka

Summer is a growing season, which seems to be going into overdrive this year. Instead of the gradual growth of plants that one might expect over the seasons, plants are starting to grow with an intense energy, and once clear paths in both cities grow choked over with vines, undergrowth, and even new saplings by the day. It might be wise to find some way to clear those paths as you go.

For those that are in a more summer and sun kind of fun, there's always the beach to the south of Temba, where the sand and surf welcome all comers. However here too there is a lot of growth going on, with new reeds and shore grasses rising up, serving as a great place for fat green lobsters to hide and pinch at the unwary.

Or maybe it's better to explore the buildings these days, with how the plants have taken over everything. However one might well find that less commonly used buildings and ruins have their own plant problems. Some are overgrown with fruitbearing vines, and others filled with wide swaths of various forms of mint. Good news there is that the glownies seem to have gotten free, or others have arrived, to feast upon the mintsplosion.

Explore ~~the city~~ Temba!

Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!

That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

Try the network!

Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...

These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

Wildcard!

You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

As Reno tugs to free herself, she might find that Lan Bo's grip only tightens, and maybe even painfully so. He's on a mission and plans to have her help.

I'm a ####### not a #########! Unfortunately for her, Lan Bo only understands the bare minimum of those words, and has zero interest in clarifying; so down they'll continue to go. At least Lan Bo is a quick swimmer, so it shouldn't be too much longer before he pulls her into one of the sunken rooms.

Inside, there seems to be some sort of wardrobe with a lock on it, that's been bolted to the floor. He points to it.

Fortunately, as most of her duties involve the ocean, Reno is a capable swimmer and can hold her breath well enough. She stops fighting when its apparent that the merman not only isn't letting go, but he's also very much intent on hanging on. There's a wince at his grip, hopefully there's a hero nearby to help a sidekick in danger!

They arrive within the room, where its not too deep where light doesn't shine. There's a confused stare at the wardrobe, and an even more confused one towards Lan Bo. Its apparent what help he needs, but, well...

There's a motion to Lan Bo to get clear of the wardrobe before she aims both her palms at the bolts. Well, if there was a time to test out the waterproofing of the Reno Reactor, its now!

Lan Bo does as he's directed, curling his tail into a circle beneath him to perch and watch what Reno does, and curiously so. He just figured they would pull on it together, but if Reno has a better idea, he's willing to let her do so.

Still, part of him can't help but keep creeping closer to get a better look at what she's doing...

Unfortunately, by the time Reno sees her abductor creeping up, its too late. Fortunately, she dialed down the repulsor blasts just enough so that they'll at the last knock the bolts loose - if not off entirely. The merman obviously wanted the wardrobe intact and she's not a wantonly careless sidekick! Hopefully he wasn't too close to her firing!

He doesn't know what he was expecting, but blasts certainly weren't it. With him being so close, the blasts surprise him; so much so that he lashes his tail out - directly at Reno. Hopefully she can dodge, because if she doesn't, she might find a new gash somewhere on her body, with Lan Bo hissing in retaliation. His tail is sharp and he's not known for holding back.

But she might notice he looks defensive; like he's been through something like this before that ended much worse. He doesn't like this one bit, and he might start lining up another attack here shortly if Reno doesn't think quickly.

Her first thought was that it wasn't too close, and was going to flash a quick thumbs up at the merman, when suddenly a tail gashes straight through her abdomen. Being a kansen, she's not what one would call human but it still leaves a mark and a bit of red mist in the water. And the resulting yelp absolutely did not help Reno's oxygen reserves either!

There's a shocked stare at Lu, and the instinct is there to simply let loose with her entire broadside. With great power comes great responsibility, however, and Reno takes a moment to gauge the merman's defensiveness. Was he not expecting her doing flashy things? Is he scared? What do?

Before he can attack, she just starts paddling up as fast as she can. Maybe explaining things where she can have air might be a start...

Lan Bo watches her try to swim away, but decides he isn't done with her. Abandoning the idea of the wardrobe, he quickly turns to pursue her. Electricity sparkles around his eyes before he sends a surge of its power her way. If it hits, it would be a very painful zap, and he certainly aims to kill. If it misses, she'll probably feel it crackle very strongly near her, with the water adding to its area of effect. And very quickly he'll begin readying another.

There had been a thought spared that the merman would give chase, but sending off electric bolts of his own? Reno goes wide-eyed at that, and there's not much room for her to dodge. Not with her vast tracts of land. What might be surprising to Lan Bo is that there's a garbled shriek as she takes the blast, and... doesn't seem to be dead? What is this girl made of?

As Lan Bo readies another strike, the kansen tries to think quickly. Her brain is still a little static filled from the shock, and she very nearly let loose a torpedo back. While that could end this situation, it might also end maybe herself if it triggers a full on collapse in the hole. Same for any of her other heavy armaments. And he did ask for help and didn't seem unfriendly until she showed off. He's scared. Its not his fault. "Great power, great responsibility," she repeats to herself in her head.

The lights on her palms die off as she raises her arms above. "I'm here to help," she garbles out with what little is left of her air reserve. "I won't hurt you!"

The fact that she isn't dead is certainly a surprise. But as he's readying another attack, she says something back.

I'm #### to help. I won't hurt you!

He understands most of it, and he yields. He slowly backs down and, eventually, the electricity he was building up for the second attack finally vanishes. Though he watches her warily.

He's not going to help her swim back up, but he will follow her back up to the top unagressively if she continues to go. After all, most humans need to breathe, and she looks human. He supposes he can be patient enough for that.

Diplomacy actually worked! Excelsior!

Before she frantically starts scrambling for the surface, Reno does give Lan Bo a smile and a motion to follow her up. Which he does. She was about to start gulping down water by the time she hit the surface, and there's a loud gasp as she breathes in all the air. "First thing I'm crafting here is a snorkel," she gasps. Paddling to the edge of the hole, she hangs on there for a moment before glancing back to see if her new merman friend surfaces.

Lan Bo is only shortly behind Reno, and as he surfaces, he hears her say something else. However, he understands very little of it this time, and so he pays it no mind. He seats himself on the edge of the hole, not at all looking concerned about what happened just a moment ago. He perches himself up on his tail as he just begins idly playing with his hair while she clearly gasps for air.

This is fine. Most humans are like this. Honestly, if he cared to give it more of a thought, he might be surprised that she actually managed to hold her breath as long as she did. Nevermind the depth; most humans lose air very quickly when they're under panicked attack. Though if she starts to take too long to recover, he might thump the end of his tail impatiently back and forth. When are they going back for the wardrobe?

When Lan Bo resurfaces, she draws in a deep breath and flashes him another charming smile. Though the shipgirl's gaze is rather fixed on him as he perches. Just in case. Is he still defensive? Oh yeah, there's something she can do to help.

A nod, and Reno's rigging simply vanishes. "Sorry about that, I'm not sure how dangerous it is out here! Guess I can be a little scary too!" A hand pats at her chest, "I'm Reno, from the Eagle Union!"

Oh, boy, that is a lot of speech at once, and Lan Bo can only blink in response. He tries to run it in his head a few times.

Sorry ##### that! I'm not #### how danger#### it is out her! ##### I can be a ##### scary ###! I'm Reno from the ##### Union!

Union! He perks up a bit.

"Bai!" is his excited response. Bai worked for the Omega Union; maybe Reno knows where he is! "Bai Shu-- Shi---" How did Bai pronounce his name again? Why are words so hard?! "Bai. Union!"

He looks around for a hard surface, finding the VCR from before, and in morse code, he taps out Bai's name: Bai Chu-nian. This worked before. Will it work again?

"Bye?" That was the strangest reaction she's ever seen to someone suddenly lighting up like that. She's about to ask if he's Bizarro Aquaman before he starts tapping something out on the VCR. It takes a moment for her to recognize the rhythm. "Morse code!"

Aaaaand that didn't help much. "Bai Chu-nian?" She asks quizzically. "Is that a name? That sounds more Dragon Empery than Eagle Union, is that... a friend?"

Lan Bo understands name and friend, so clearly she must be understanding. He nods vigorously. But then he pauses.

Bai's more than a friend. Isn't he? ...Isn't he? He's not sure. Bai was acting pretty rudely before he got here. A grimace forms on Lan Bo's face. He just wants to curl up and not come out of his tail for a while. But he also really wants to give Bai a very strong beating. And if this person is working with the Union, then this might be his only chance to find him.

With pouting resolve, he nods again.

"Bai. Friend."

He didn't like the way that word felt. But he certainly has to clear some things up first.

"Union."

Its now becoming apparent that her new friend's English is limited, even if his ability to emote wasn't. Honestly, his pouting would be kind of adorable if it didn't come with tail slashes. Lan Bo was quite handy with the Morse code, though, which gives the kansen an idea.

Reno glances about her, finally settling on a piece of rebar. She starts tapping a metallic finger on it, glancing to the merman to see if he responds.

"I do not know of a Bai. I am sorry. Is he here. I can help find him. My name is Reno. I want to be your friend."

The words she taps out, he does manage to understand, if only because they're simple. Though his face falls at the fact that she doesn't know him. But, in equally simple words, he responds. Morse code is at least a little easier to tap than it is to speak all the words.

I don't know where Bai is. I'm Lan Bo.

But he seems to be a little unsure how to respond to her wanting to be friends. He hadn't really thought about being actual friends with anyone. There was mating and love, and there were enemies, and the rest of the people were pretty much just background noise to him. So he's actually curious enough to ask:

Why friends?

That Bai isn't here wasn't surprising. Much like herself, her new friend must have been taken alone. That he has a name, though, does get the girl to light up. "Lan Bo!" she repeats enthusiastically. It sounds Dragon Empery, but she's fairly certain he's not from there.

His question does present a puzzle. That was never a question Reno ever thought of back home, it was easier for everyone to be friends when you're all shipgirls. Shipgirls that usually didn't try to fry you when you tried helping, at that. Not hesitating, however, she taps out cheerily: "I like having friends. I am alone here. I think you are too. We will need new friends here."

Lan Bo can't help but look up when he hears his name. He's not exactly sure why she called it. She doesn't seem to be needing his attention directly on her. Cue confused head tilt.

But the tapping resumes, and Lan Bo can't help but feel a bit perplexed. Alone. Maybe in the laboratory he never truly was. But alone was something he felt quite a lot. None of the scientists cared about him; he was a project. Not even a means to an end, but a means to something more powerful than he already was. Alone was not something he was afraid of.

I can endure alone. he taps. Though he does certainly wish Bai were here. The next steps forward weren't clear. And he actually felt kind of lost about it. He can't help but frown as he thinks.

There's a small grin at that, and the girl points back down the pool with another tap. "Want to go get that wardrobe? Let us do it together." He was the one who wanted help to begin with, but Reno knows better than to egg him on that way. She'll show him the power of teamwork! They can even have a dance off later.
