SUMMER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Summer in Temba and Sh'Ka
Summer is a growing season, which seems to be going into overdrive this year. Instead of the gradual growth of plants that one might expect over the seasons, plants are starting to grow with an intense energy, and once clear paths in both cities grow choked over with vines, undergrowth, and even new saplings by the day. It might be wise to find some way to clear those paths as you go.

For those that are in a more summer and sun kind of fun, there's always the beach to the south of Temba, where the sand and surf welcome all comers. However here too there is a lot of growth going on, with new reeds and shore grasses rising up, serving as a great place for fat green lobsters to hide and pinch at the unwary.

Or maybe it's better to explore the buildings these days, with how the plants have taken over everything. However one might well find that less commonly used buildings and ruins have their own plant problems. Some are overgrown with fruitbearing vines, and others filled with wide swaths of various forms of mint. Good news there is that the glownies seem to have gotten free, or others have arrived, to feast upon the mintsplosion.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

[I didn't either. I just thought it was something from movies and the like.]

Celty pauses again, although admittedly impressed by the kid's ability to remain calm. She'd been freaking out when she'd found herself here. But then she's always had this weird fear of aliens. Too much sci-fi shows.

[...no. I guess if it were so simple, we wouldn't be staying here.]
troublefindsme: (I'm just not sure that goes there...)

[personal profile] troublefindsme 2022-06-13 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I suppose not." Harry admitted, realizing how silly his question probably seemed. He chooses not to comment on the part about movies because he's fairly certain he's never seen a full movie involving space or aliens. If it was unrealistic Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon would probably be against it.

That or they just wouldn't let him in the room while they all watched television. It wasn't like he wanted to be in the same room with them anyway.

"I'm Harry, by the way. It's nice to meet you."

tsundullahan: (spoilers: celty is an alien)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-06-13 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Nice to meet you too. I'm Celty. You're taking this rather well. You're a lot braver than I was.]

Not many people- or dullahans, she supposes- ever think that the next place they'd visit would be somewhere completely away from Earth. One wouldn't really think it from looking around. It's only after touching that awful little orb floating there by the fountain that your assumptions get so rudely shattered.

[We're not the only ones here. There are others- all arrived the same, quite suddenly. Quite a few from Earth, actually. ...are you from Earth too?]

[personal profile] troublefindsme 2022-06-27 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Was he taking it well? He won't hesitate to admit he's feeling rather confused by everything that's happened today.

"I sort of accidentally broke a law before I came here. Would you believe, it's actually kind of a relief I ended up here." A relief and really stressful because he's really not supposed to be aparating to different planets. It does sooth his anxiety slightly to know more people had just wound up here so he probably didn't aparate. although, he did get a warning last year for that hover charm that was performed by a house elf.

"Erm, yeah. I mean-yes. I'm from Earth. Are you?"
tsundullahan: (hmm)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-06-27 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Confusion's to be expected. At least the kid wasn't outright panicking.

Celty's helmet tilts to the side then. She has a hard time picturing him breaking any laws.

[You don't look like someone who'd break any laws on purpose. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I suppose I regularly break the law back home by driving without headlights at night, but that's not really something I can help.]

Well...she probably could, but riding a regular motorcycle as opposed to her Cóiste Bodhar is simply out of the question.

[I'm from Earth, yes. Ikebukurou, Japan, although originally I'm from Ireland.]
troublefindsme: (Whatever you're saying is stupid)

[personal profile] troublefindsme 2022-06-27 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Well when your choices are here, Prison or the Dursley's this is probably the best option.

"Oh, it wasn't." He admits. "On purpose, I mean. I just.. got really angry and it sort of... happened." His story is a little vague but he's still not too sure if it's safe to tell people about magic. Or how they'll take it. She mentions where she's from and he jumps on the option to change the subject.

"Oh! I'm from Surrey-in England."
tsundullahan: (my face is not a mirror)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-06-27 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Vague as it is, Celty can thoroughly understand things just happening when one lets their emotions get the best of them, and her nod is accepting at Harry's response.

[I think that's only natural. ...did anyone get hurt?]

Not that she'd judge too much on that either, really. She's hardly innocent of that and still felt those whom she injured were rather deserving of it. She doubts anything Harry's done by accident can hardly compare to what those people had done or attempted to do, knowingly.

[Ah, England... Closer to home than Japan.]

She wonders if she misses it, Ireland. She can't even remember if she's been anywhere beyond it, before venturing out as she had. Well, regardless, it's not like she can go back as she is.
troublefindsme: (Be cool. Don't act suspicious)

[personal profile] troublefindsme 2022-06-27 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
"No!" Harry quickly denies and then pauses to think about it. He hadn't exactly stuck around to see what had become of Marge but he didn't really care either. "I-er.. I accidentally inflated my Aunt-she's not really my Aunt, she's my uncle's sister. I wouldn't have done it- really." He's not sure why he thinks he needs to defend his actions but it wasn't like Aunt Marge would turn up here. A meeting with the woman would be reason enough to inflate her like a balloon.

"She just-she'd been awful all week and then she started talking bad about my parents and I-I sort of lost control. As far as I know, she's still stuck on the ceiling back at the Dursley's-er my Aunt and Uncle's house."
tsundullahan: (hmm)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-06-27 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Whatever she'd been expecting, the instantaneous denial and the explanation to follow definitely isn't part of it. It might be a bit of an uncomfortable moment as Celty stares, not actually in horror (although it's difficult to tell from a helmet), but in confusion as she tries to make sense of what Harry's just informed her.

Thinking about it, there's still a lot missing from this story that would help it make sense, and yet she's not sure exactly how that would work out. Finally she waves a hand, then begins to type at her tablet again.

[There's a lot to unpack here. While I won't question your reasons for doing so, I'm still...not sure I understand what you mean.

"Accidentally inflated?" And she's on the ceiling? How..?
]

Her posture doesn't suggest that she's afraid of this revelation so much as a curious confusion.
troublefindsme: (Possibly irritated)

[personal profile] troublefindsme 2022-06-27 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if the Ministry manages to find him all the way out here he's probably going to end up in Azkaban anyway. How much more damage can he do?

"Oh... I guess I should tell you-I'm a wizard. Underaged wizards aren't allowed to do magic outside of school and I lost control of mine when Aunt Marge said what she did. I started thinking about what she'd look like swelled up like a balloon and then she was a balloon. And then I left." He was not about to wait for the ministry to either expel him or arrest him. And he certainly wasn't going to hang around to see how mad he'd made his Uncle. He's guessing very.

"And then I ended up here so I don't know if anyone's managed to get her down."
tsundullahan: (spoilers: celty is an alien)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-06-27 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
A wizard? There are such things? But then who am I to be questioning that? Celty almost laughs to herself as she thinks these things.

[I've never met a wizard. But then I suppose I didn't know magic was something that had a school, either. I'm starting to understand why you're so concerned, though.]

Poor kid. She's not sure what to say to make him feel any better. Her fingers drum pensively against the back of her tablet as she thinks.

[I know it won't be an easy thing to do, but the best thing to try is to not worry about it for now. I guess being here brings up its own worries, but think of it as...a separate place entirely from home. I was told we don't miss anything while we're here, or however and whenever we're sent back, it's not long after we've left. But until that might even happen, it's best to focus on here. Start fresh, maybe.]
troublefindsme: (How has he not crashed into things yet?)

[personal profile] troublefindsme 2022-06-27 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
He listens but he's not so sure he wants to go back. The fact he might have to isn't much of a comfort but he opts to hide that as best he can. She might think he's weird for not wanting to go home.

"I'll er.. try not to worry about it too much, I guess. I kind of need to know though, is there anywhere I could stay? An Inn maybe?"
tsundullahan: (.suspiciously specific denial)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-06-27 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
At least she knows the answer to that question. Celty nods, and then points across the square towards one building in question.

[There. That's the hotel. You can choose any of the rooms so long as they're unoccupied- but there are plenty at least. You won't have to pay for it and you can stay as long as you want, or you can find somewhere else around the city if you want. It's pretty much up to you.]
