SUMMER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Summer in Temba and Sh'Ka
Summer is a growing season, which seems to be going into overdrive this year. Instead of the gradual growth of plants that one might expect over the seasons, plants are starting to grow with an intense energy, and once clear paths in both cities grow choked over with vines, undergrowth, and even new saplings by the day. It might be wise to find some way to clear those paths as you go.

For those that are in a more summer and sun kind of fun, there's always the beach to the south of Temba, where the sand and surf welcome all comers. However here too there is a lot of growth going on, with new reeds and shore grasses rising up, serving as a great place for fat green lobsters to hide and pinch at the unwary.

Or maybe it's better to explore the buildings these days, with how the plants have taken over everything. However one might well find that less commonly used buildings and ruins have their own plant problems. Some are overgrown with fruitbearing vines, and others filled with wide swaths of various forms of mint. Good news there is that the glownies seem to have gotten free, or others have arrived, to feast upon the mintsplosion.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

The girl hunches up her shoulders a little as she ducks her head, looking a bit sheepish. "...I guess you're right," she concedes, shuffling her feet in the wet sand. Being told by a complete stranger or someone she knows, what's worse? She can't decide.

But at least she doesn't have to be told twice, not wanting to upset this new person. They are new, aren't they? Omega's sure she's never seen them before. She doesn't take two steps before another wave splashes down with enough force to spatter her just past her knees, and she jumps with a squeak in surprise.
snarkbunny: (We're looking past the lies)

...Oh. Nanachi didn't expect them to look quite so admonished. As much as they'd rather it didn't, it tugs at their furry little heartstrings.

"Hey... Err..." They're about to offer some form of apology when the girl gets hit by a wave. Just as surprised as she is, Nanachi can't help chuckling quietly - and briefly - at the scene. "See what I mean?" This time their comment isn't entirely without humour. Dry humour, sure, but still humour.

Finally they close the gap to come and stand next to the girl. Survival and safety aside, their friends would also want them to make an effort with Omega. If she's alone here too... Well, no one really wants to be all alone, do they?

"Maybe a little splashing is okay," they concede. "If something was going to take a chunk out of you, it probably would have done so by now."

At least she isn't completely soaked, and after looking down at herself and then over at Nanachi, Omega starts to laugh a little as well. "Guess I deserved that," she says, eyeing the waters behind her like it's some creature that had just played a trick on her.

She smiles again as the fuzzy stranger has come closer, certainly happy for some company. "At least it'll be easier to keep an eye out for any trouble with two pairs of eyes too. I'm Omega. What's your name?"
snarkbunny: (We'll unravel the truth)

“Maybe it was me tempting fate. Not that you should have to pay for that.” The sarcastic edge isn’t as present this time. Instead there’s more of a quiet melancholy that creeps in. One Nanachi definitely didn’t intend and swiftly moves on from.

As they continue, they don’t look directly at Omega. Gazing out at the water doesn’t entirely hide the small smile on their face, but it does mean it isn’t aimed at their companion. “I’m Nanachi. You play. I’ll keep watch.”

For all their wariness, Omega’s antics did look kind of fun. That isn’t a concept Nanachi is well acquainted with.

"Could have happened to anyone," Omega insists. She picks up on that slight shift, but it doesn't seem her place to ask. Perhaps Nanachi's been through some things too. It seems true of most people Omega's met here.

She follows the other's gaze out towards the sea. "I like coming out here. The ocean's so different experiencing it this way," she says as she looks down at the lapping waves again. With Nanachi saying they'll keep watch, the girl steps back into the incoming surf, watching what the sea reveals as it pulls back at the sands in its retreat. "The world I lived on is completely covered by an ocean. Most of what I saw of the water was from beneath it."
snarkbunny: (But we can't forget this longing)

"Have you been here a while?" Or that's what they assume from Omega having a preference for the place. Very handy if so, as she might be able to get Nanachi up to speed on... well, everything, really. Though it also implies that there might not be any quick route back to their friends.

Nanachi alternates between their watch of the water and glancing at Omega. What she says about her world captures Nanachi's attention for longer, as they want to show they are indeed listening, but their gaze doesn't stay on her for too long. They promised to be look-out and that's what they'll do.

"Did you live underneath the water?"
small_compromise: (ooh)

The girl nods after thinking for a moment. "I have," she decides. How long has it been? The weather had been warm the first time she'd arrived, and it's been a full cycle since then, if that's the way things worked here.

As the waves wash out again, she stoops down to grab at a handful of sand, opening her palm. She frowns. Whatever she'd thought to snatch must have gotten pulled out by the waters. Omega shakes her hand out, standing again.

"For most of my life I did. The city had some structures built above water, but a lot of it existed beneath it." Not that she really got to go to many parts of the city even then, but after experiencing the outside world, she'd never want to go back.
snarkbunny: (I will not forget how your words)

[personal profile] snarkbunny 2022-07-21 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"What's it been like?" Whether they mean for Omega specifically, in a more generalised sense or both is open for interpretation. At the moment, they're willing to receive whatever information their companion is ready to give over drilling her with questions.

"A city under the water. Sounds like quite the technological feat." One Nanachi tries to imagine as for all the sights they've seen, they haven't set eyes on anything like that.

Looking down, they spy a seashell with a pretty pattern in the sand. Was this the kind of thing Omega grabbing at? Grasping it in their stubby fingers, Nanachi pulls a face at the feeling of the wet sand. They wash off both the shell and their hand in the water before offering the prize to Omega. "Is this what you were looking for?"
small_compromise: (yeah!)

[personal profile] small_compromise 2022-07-22 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
It's a fair question either way, Omega supposes. She doesn't mind answering either. Of course someone new to the place would have questions. "Most of the time it's pretty quiet. There aren't that many people here, but most of them are friendly, or at least willing to help out if something needs to be done," she says. "It's not so bad, but sometimes you can't help but feel like you're stuck. But I guess it's because we are."

If the rest of her brothers were here then she wouldn't feel nearly as bad, but she misses them terribly. At least she's been able to make new friends here.

Omega nods as she thinks of Tipoca City. Architecturally she could say it was a magnificent place for what it was. But she'd been even more trapped there than here, so choosing this place over Kamino is a no-brainer.

Seeing Nanachi move suddenly, she looks to see what the other's found, smiling excitedly, more so in the prospect of having them finally join her in more than just sentry duty. She giggles a little at the face they make. "It does feel strange, doesn't it? -oh!" Her face lights up as she accepts the shell with a nod, running her fingers along its edges. "I try to see if I can find any whenever I come out here. This one's pretty. Look at the colors!" She sets it in her palm, holding it out to show Nanachi.
