FALL TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Fall in Temba and Sh'Ka
While both cities remain overgrown by plant life, the He Row's efforts to tame the wild and partially dangerous growths has paid off. No longer do any of the plants pose any active danger and as summer turns into fall, green leaves again begin turning light blue and purple before falling off their respective trees. The temperatures are cooling down in both cities and any fruit bearing trees and plants that are due to be harvested are far more fruitful this year.

Now Temba has decidedly fewer trees than Sh'Ka. And while still numerous in both cities, Temba's trees are also much smaller and may not necessarily of the same species. The leaves in Temba fall gently. The leaves in Sh'Ka, however? They turn to stone while still attached to their branches and suddenly fall to the floor from high, high up above.

Thud.

They shatter once they hit the ground, which may explain why you haven't really seen any leaf-shaped rocks around. You still may want to try and avoid getting hit too much by this slowly increasing hail of stone leaves.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

The two currently crewless ships are open for anyone to step inside and have a look around, maybe even use for a nap.

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

Hendrik | Dragonquest XI S

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-10-08 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
(off) The Deep End - (Bar)

Hendrik is sitting at the bar near one of the windows in which the fish can be seen. He'd had company earlier, but they've since departed so now he is sitting alone. In front of him are three different drinks and he is pondering which one to have. The first is a Gingerbread latte complete with gingerbread men. The second is a white hot chocolate and the third is a pumpkin latte. These are not familiar drinks to him, although he is aware they are hot.

When someone approaches, he will briefly glance up with a nod. Should they sit with him, the knight will continue to ponder the drinks in front of him. "I do not know which concoction to try. I have not the sweet tooth that my oldest friend had."

Oh my gourd - (Or Fall in Temba)

The knight has been helping to bring in some of the vegetables for harvest. He even does some of the heavier lifting and doesn't mind helping at all. And even if these people aren't weak he will still serve them untiringly as is in the Knight's Pledge. As more of the harvest is cleared away which mainly consists of pumpkins more progress is made.

Every now and then he holds one up in his hand to gaze at it, recalling to mind stories from Erik and the Luminary that they have gone around smashing the things in people's houses. Of course, that was them talking amongst themselves about it and he happened to over hear it.

Coming upon a large thick cluster of vines now, Hendrik reaches out a gloved hand and starts clearing it. And hidden back among the growth is a huge pumpkin.

For a moment Hendrik just blinks at it before speaking. "By the skies, how many here could this one pumpkin feed? Surely no one here would go hungry with a bounty such as this."

Fond of Funfronds -

Hendrik is out foraging for food, and happens to wander around in the right place for what he believes are mushrooms growing near some white flowers. He has survived on them before, so now is his chance to get some to cook for dinner. The knight didn't plan to get a lot of them so he didn't have supplies, as just a few pocketful's would suffice for now until he can get a proper bag.

But as he leans down he blinks a few times and turns to his companion to make sure they are seeing the same thing. With a little bit of sunlight, there appears to be a mother and child who stop and look back at who is looking at them without any fear. Blinking again, the knight speaks in a low tone, turning back to something he can't believe even though he'd seen some pretty unbelievable sights as an oath sworn companion to the Luminary. "I do not believe I may eat mushrooms ever again after seeing this."

Funfronds

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2022-10-10 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Tommy has seen the things around before, in passing. They move about and they avoid him as much as he avoids them. Perhaps it's something about his powers, or how fast he moves. Doesn't matter for now, though. Right now he's chuckling at the guy saying that he doesn't want to eat mushrooms anymore.

"That's your loss. We've got some in the greenhouse that taste like bacon."

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-10-12 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Serious bluish green eyes turn to his companion when the other spoke as the mother and child went about their business if it could be called as such. They didn't seem to be threatened or feel threatened in any way, shape or form as they walked off. A frown immediately appeared but then he had to admit that he was intrigued.

"So you cultivate living mushrooms such as these in a greenhouse?"
doubled_speed: (Default)

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2022-10-12 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"If by 'living' you mean Funfronds, no. If you mean 'totally edible and non-intelligent but also alien' mushrooms, then yes."

So not these ones. Things that are very different.

"Apparently these things are sentient. Not polite to eat things that are sentient."
quark_assassin: (Paranoid | Side-Eye)

oh my gourd

[personal profile] quark_assassin 2022-10-12 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't touch it."

The voice comes from only a few feet behind Hendrik (how long has he been lurking back there?), sharp tone accompanied by equally urgent footsteps shuffling through the undergrowth of the pumpkin patch. Dustin makes it to the side of the offending squash moments later. The teenager's wary eyes flickering between it and Hendrik - a man he doesn't recognize, therefore a potential threat - say that his thoughts are far away from feasting on this prize.

"No one's eating this until I get some measurements," he declares. That means you, stranger.
unswervingcompanion: (Awkward knight)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-10-13 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
He felt better after the other had mentioned edible and non intelligent. Being in a new world had thrown him off and he needed to get home, but since he was here hunger was definitely a thing he had to deal with.

Since he didn't have any gold on him (and he did wonder where it all seemed to have gone) to purchase food, mushrooms had been on his to get list, until he'd come across the sight he had.

And then there was a nod as he glanced back at the retreating small forms of life and then back to his companion. "Indeed. I would not have the stomach to do as such."
unswervingcompanion: (...what?)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-10-13 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hendrik backed up a step at hearing those words. He himself had no claim on the huge gourd, nor would he pretend he did, and so a fight wouldn't ensue. Still, this thing could feed a lot of people and that was where his mind had gone upon seeing it.

But what the boy said had him intrigued.

"So you mean to measure this and then somehow transport it to the general populace?"

Did this kid have a plan?
quark_assassin: (Thinking | Element)

[personal profile] quark_assassin 2022-10-13 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes." The answer is curt and immediate. Dustin doesn't waste any further time watching to see if Hendrik might do something to stop him - that backstep was enough. Instead he settles into a crouch next to the pumpkin and starts digging through his satchel for various supplies. A measuring tape, a pen and a phial of ink, a balance scale and a...rock? That's just a normal rock. Nevertheless, Dustin places it reverently next to the other materials, all of which look home-made.

He doesn't glance at Hendrik when he starts asking follow-up questions. "Did you pick any other pumpkins before coming across this one?"

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2022-10-14 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good," Tommy said. "Because if you did, I'd probably ban you from the diner."

Because there should never be anything casual about killing sentient life. Hell, Tommy was weird about killing animals in general for food, but he did his best to keep people fed.
unswervingcompanion: (Erm..)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-10-15 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Hendrik had no idea if that was a jest or not, but still he shook his head. "And I would deserve such a fate if I chose otherwise." He stood to his full height and adjusted his gloves even if the gesture was unnecessary.

He had no idea what a diner was but even if he did, there was no way he'd go there because he had no coin.

"I would like a chance to see this greenhouse you speak of some day." That didn't mean now, but he was interested in seeing how others grew things. He knew of farms and all of that, but it wasn't something he did.
unswervingcompanion: (And now to deal with you (r))

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-10-15 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Hendrik nodded not at all offended by the tone. If anything, he was curious and stood there watching the other. This reminded him of the way the Luminary would set his forging materials together before getting out the Fun Size Forge to craft whatever project he was intent on making at the time.

"Nay I did not." the knight replied. "I was helping others who were harvesting them, but I did not personally pick them. I merely carried them to assist."

He wasn't about to stand around and watch ladies try and do the work that he could do for them.

Dude is sure tall. And possibly way too serious. Very Steve Rogers.

"Like I could even stop you if I wanted to. Everyone goes where they want when they want."
unswervingcompanion: (By your command)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-10-15 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Serious blue eyes looked over at his companion and pondered over the words. Hendrik had no wish to have a confrontation with this man who had done him no wrong. However he did not know the way.

"I must admit that I do not know what a diner is, or where the greenhouse is."
doubled_speed: (Default)

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2022-10-15 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Somehow he's not shocked. With a great sigh, Tommy nods.

"Greenhouse later. Come on, Cap, let's show you the diner. I was on my way back after checking in on a friend anyway. I could use lunch."
unswervingcompanion: (But.... (r))

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-10-15 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
The tall knight had no idea what the 'cap' meant, but the man was being gracious enough to show him to this diner whatever that was and the greenhouse afterwards. Lunch was mentioned and Hendrik turned to face Tommy.

"So you are showing me the diner for future reference no doubt."

There was no way he could eat there, but he wasn't going to second guess the kindness that this stranger was showing him.
doubled_speed: (Default)

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2022-10-15 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, he was such a cap, including not even knowing what a diner was. Actually, Cap would know. He's a more extreme Cap. That's impressive.

"Or for now. Unless you're not hungry right now. Then yeah, it becomes 'for later'."
quark_assassin: (Explaining | Lecturing)

[personal profile] quark_assassin 2022-10-17 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Dustin scowls, though it isn't directed at Hendrick. What he would give to enforce some kind of documentation discipline about plant harvesting...oh well. Cultivar tracking would be nice, but isn't necessarily required.

"Any other of a similar size?" he asks, slinging his measuring tape around what looks like the pumpkin's widest point to get its circumference. This is verified by wiggling the tape around a bit, then marking the spot with a dab of ink from his makeshift pen. "I'm guessing not, from your surprise at spotting it."
unswervingcompanion: (I am listening)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-10-18 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
The knight shook his head. "I confess to being hungry, but I cannot afford such an indulgence for I seem to have misplaced all of the gold I had on me before coming here. Hence, I was attempting to forage for mushrooms."

He sighed. "Still, I will not pass up the opportunity to learn where it is for when I am able to have a meal there."
unswervingcompanion: (I suspect it might)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-10-18 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
He saw the other's scowl but no words followed to express what was going through his mind, so the tall knight remained silent as the measuring tape continued to do its job.

And the head shook. "I have not seen one quite this size while helping the others. The others were far smaller than this one."

Hendrik still wondered what good the measurements were actually going to do, but that wasn't his place to ask. He tucked the question away for later in case it came up. "Is this something out of the ordinary, for one to grow as big as this?"
doubled_speed: (Default)

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2022-10-18 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Your money is no good here," Tommy said, waving the comment aside. "Like, literally. We don't have currency."

So don't be like that. Eat.
unswervingcompanion: (Awkward knight)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-10-20 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
"That is confusing." Hendrik replied as they walked on. So he tried to puzzle this out. " Then how does one attempt to pay for things? In trade perhaps?"
doubled_speed: (Default)

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2022-10-20 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"I mean, I don't turn away people who wanna help out, with harvesting or cooking. Though less people are good at the latter than I could really stand for."

He is only an okay cook at best.
quark_assassin: (Thinking | Element)

[personal profile] quark_assassin 2022-10-20 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes."

Dustin resumes taking more measurements around different points of the pumpkin, going about his business for a few more seconds before abruptly pausing to stare into space ahead of him, brow creased and pensive.

"--Maybe not so much recently," he admits. "Coming off of an unusual plant growth event."

Which is a sterile way of saying, 'a storm rolled through and made the plants become violent last month.' Dustin shrugs and picks up where he left off.

"Checking to see if there are lingering effects on the local flora. Increased fruit production is definitely one of them."
unswervingcompanion: (And I miss you (r))

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-10-25 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
He knew of one person that wanted to expand her recipe knowledge with cooking, but the Princess was back at home, no doubt alongside the Luminary where he too belonged. However, he was not able to be at the moment.

"I must confess that my skill set is not that of a cook. I can however help to harvest whatever is required in order to ensure that I do my part."
unswervingcompanion: (Going to explain a thing (r))

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-10-25 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
The man before him continued his measurements and Hendrik stood by to assist if anything was needed.

"An unusual plant growth event?" Hendrik asked. He had no idea what the other meant by that. What could an 'event' mean? This just served to further show him that he needed to learn far more about this place.

He didn't have much of an imagination, but Jasper did tell him some stories as a kid and this sounded like something terrible.

"Ah I see." the knight replied. "This would be a boon for the populace then."
