FALL TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Fall in Temba and Sh'Ka
While both cities remain overgrown by plant life, the He Row's efforts to tame the wild and partially dangerous growths has paid off. No longer do any of the plants pose any active danger and as summer turns into fall, green leaves again begin turning light blue and purple before falling off their respective trees. The temperatures are cooling down in both cities and any fruit bearing trees and plants that are due to be harvested are far more fruitful this year.

Now Temba has decidedly fewer trees than Sh'Ka. And while still numerous in both cities, Temba's trees are also much smaller and may not necessarily of the same species. The leaves in Temba fall gently. The leaves in Sh'Ka, however? They turn to stone while still attached to their branches and suddenly fall to the floor from high, high up above.

Thud.

They shatter once they hit the ground, which may explain why you haven't really seen any leaf-shaped rocks around. You still may want to try and avoid getting hit too much by this slowly increasing hail of stone leaves.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

The two currently crewless ships are open for anyone to step inside and have a look around, maybe even use for a nap.

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

unswervingcompanion: (Going to explain a thing (r))

The man before him continued his measurements and Hendrik stood by to assist if anything was needed.

"An unusual plant growth event?" Hendrik asked. He had no idea what the other meant by that. What could an 'event' mean? This just served to further show him that he needed to learn far more about this place.

He didn't have much of an imagination, but Jasper did tell him some stories as a kid and this sounded like something terrible.

"Ah I see." the knight replied. "This would be a boon for the populace then."

Dustin nods as a general response to both points Hedrick has addressed, though he does decide that it would be worth it to explain more about the storm. Knowledge is power, and in particular, knowledge about the storms is potential strength against them. Hiding that won't do anything except make Hendrick a future liability.

"You've been given the--" Dustin puts down his measuring tape so he can make proper air quotes. "--'Agrii introduction' I'm assuming? Touched the console in the center of town?"
unswervingcompanion: (By your command)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-11-01 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
He nodded. "I was not sure what to do when I first arrived. But someone kindly pointed me in the direction of the..machine and said I should learn more about the world." What happened had been the oddest sensation but suddenly he knew about the agriculture here.

quark_assassin: (Paranoid | Side-Eye)

[personal profile] quark_assassin 2022-11-04 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds close enough to what Dustin is expecting to hear, so he continues on. "Then you understand the storms," he says, taking measurements of the stem connecting the pumpkin to the rest of the vine. "At least, from the Agrii perspective. They're local events that cause various sorts of chaos. The last one that came through caused a long-term surge of plant growth that also turned many of them hostile."
unswervingcompanion: (I am listening)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-11-08 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Plants turning hostile would be all in a days work as far as the knight was concerned. He'd fought plenty of nefarious things that he wouldn't have ever thought could turn against him. But still he nodded because that was at least familiar to him.

"And how often do these storms come through?"

Because if it was often, Hendrik would have his work cut out for him.

At least he's taking it well - or maybe he's just always like this. Dustin doesn't especially care, as long as no one starts to panic.

"No set timetable," he answers with a shrug. With one last check that the pumpkin is at optimum ripeness and isn't likely to get any bigger, Dustin takes out his working knife and severs the stem. "People who have been here longer than me haven't seen many of them - three in the span of a few years, plus this last one."
unswervingcompanion: (By your command)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-11-15 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
Hendrik remained out of the man's way even though he did wonder what cutting the stem was going to do. There was no point in panicking in his mind since he had been faced with far worse odds back home.

"Might I inquire then just how long you have been here in this desolate place?"
quark_assassin: (Thinking | Element)

[personal profile] quark_assassin 2022-11-17 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Dustin doesn't hesitate; his answer is automatic, like it's always been at the tip of his tongue. "Three months, twenty-four days...eight hours. Rounding up, not counting the disparity from interplanetary travel."
unswervingcompanion: (At your service)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-11-18 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
That wasn't an answer the knight had been expecting but he went with it nonetheless. This man had given him no cause to doubt his word.

And while the interplanetary comment went right over his head, Hendrik blinked. "And there has been no way to return to your world I take it?"
quark_assassin: (Seething | can't believe this shit)

[personal profile] quark_assassin 2022-11-18 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"None." Dustin's expression turns distinctly sour, batting away the detached and surrounding vines from the freed pumpkin with a little more aggression than warranted. "The Agrii have made it very clear that we're stuck until we fix their problems for them - and even that isn't a guarantee."
unswervingcompanion: (Curious face)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-11-22 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
That made absolute zero sense to the knight. If one assisted with something, there wasn't always a reward at the end. This Hendrik knew. Doing the right thing was its own reward and he was more than fine with that.

"I fail to understand why we would be kept here if we did as they needed us to do."
quark_assassin: (Obstinate | Sarcastic)

[personal profile] quark_assassin 2022-11-23 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Dustin huffs a sigh, stopping suddenly to inspect the pumpkin from a small distance away with his hands propped on his hips and a frown creasing his face. There's no way he's getting this weighed with the dinky scale he brought, which means this pumpkin needs to be moved before any other tests can be conducted. Easier said than done, considering that it's nearly as big as he is.

"Because they're obsessed with us," Dustin explains, exasperated. "For whatever reason. They think we're the only ones capable of fixing their problems. Wouldn't surprise me if they've become codependent on outside help."
unswervingcompanion: (Soldier of Heliodor)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-11-25 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Hendrik didn't know what was going on with the body language but he'd seen Jasper do that very same gesture a million times which always silently expressed displeasure. And for a moment it was almost pleasant to be on the receiving end of the exasperation because that's what he was used to from his childhood friend.

However, his features never gave away any indication and he nodded. "That is quite vexing news indeed. And if we knew what the issues were we could fix them but as you say there is no guarantee of being sent back."

He was quiet a moment. "It sounds as if they view us as one would view a pet perhaps."
quark_assassin: (Eyeroll | Huffy | whatever)

[personal profile] quark_assassin 2022-11-26 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Something like that," Dustin murmurs. At this point his interest in solving the 'how to move this huge fuckoff pumpkin' puzzle has overtaken his irritation at the Agrii, and it is quite the puzzle indeed. Probably should have built a cart before coming here. He could whip up a quick-and-dirty sledge, maybe, but hauling that across the broken pavement all the way back to his shop sounds like an absolute slog.

Unfortunately, it might be his only option. Shaking his head at himself, Dustin starts packing up his measuring tools. "It doesn't matter anyway," he sighs again. "We're essentially at their mercy and they know it. Unless we can find a way to subvert their control over us, there's nothing we can do about how they treat us, or what they want from us."
unswervingcompanion: (At your service)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-11-29 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
The knight remained quiet and considered all that he had heard. Everything seemed to be upside down at the moment and even with people who had been here some tine such as this man, there remained an unsolvable puzzle.

For a moment he felt blessed that his companions weren't stuck in this place. Someone had answers, Hendrik believed that.

"Have you seen these Agrii?"
quark_assassin: (Explaining | Lecturing)

[personal profile] quark_assassin 2022-12-07 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not personally," he answers, gingerly taking apart his scales. The rock that he was going to use as a reference weight is diligently placed back in his satchel, too. "Seen drawn pictures of them, as well as impressions of them from the data points. Records also indicate that others have worked with them on one of their ships in orbit. I know they're very tall, they have three eyes, and have multiple sets of arms."
unswervingcompanion: (By your command)

[personal profile] unswervingcompanion 2022-12-09 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
Multiple sets of arms didn't sit well with Hendrik only because anything like that back home meant a hard fight. A good fight too, but still. The tentacled thing in the ocean and the spider in Octagonia were two adversaries that immediately came to mind.

"And where might these drawings be?"

Because honestlyhe just wanted to look at them himself if that were possible.
quark_assassin: (Paranoid | Side-Eye)

[personal profile] quark_assassin 2022-12-13 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"The Memorial," Dustin answers, as he slings the strap of his satchel over his shoulder and stands, brushing some stray leaf litter off of his pants. "Northwestern corner of Temba, mostly subterranean. Check your map."

And then he just...starts walking away. Dustin needs to build a way to transport this pumpkin, and he can't do that here, so, he's done. Hendrik is apparently supposed to figure that out on his own.
