WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Winter in Temba and Sh'Ka
Winter has arrived on Agra 10 and with it its cold temperatures, sharp winds and, you guessed it, snow. It starts slow and gentle in Temba, but even such gentle snowfall tends to build up and over the course of a few days of constant snowfall, the city has been covered with a white, roughly knee-deep blanket - Unless someone actually remembered to keep some of the paths clear.

And it still keeps snowing. The cold is also causing some of the Shadowpaws to be drawn to the inhabited buildings of Temba in search for shelter. The further away from the library one is, the more likely it gets that they may share one's living space and bless anyone else living there with nightmares. The area around the library remains free of the shadowpaws thanks to the mothcats residing there.

Over in Sh'Ka, a similar picture has been painted. But being situated within all these tall trees paints a somewhat different picture. A more icy one. All the by now leaf-free trees are covered in a thick layer of ice, as are Sh'Ka's stone-carved buildings. The wind here is harsher than it is in Temba, which has been comparably wind-free.

Please try not to slip and hurt yourself while marveling at either city.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

The two currently crewless ships are open for anyone to step inside and have a look around, maybe even use for a nap.

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

Or perhaps humans are just Kree shaped. That's her story and she'll stick to it. Still, she watches him, head tilted, intrigued. And when he makes for the First Blood she opens the door to her ship, tucks her bag of laundry in with it, and then moves to follow him.

"You should be cautious. It is possible to break vital systems, and I do not know how to repair them."
thepurpleone: (hey look ice cream!)

oh whoops, I guess it's First Breath. Blood's the other one

[personal profile] thepurpleone 2023-01-04 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's fine! I'm a professional!" says the overconfident fourteen-year old who hasn't nearly been told enough that he can't or shouldn't. He bounces on his feet as he comes up to the ship and finds it opening up for him, scurrying inside even before it's opened all the way.

His behavior isn't very professional but he's too busy geeking out about being inside an actual spaceship. Donnie nearly trips over one of the lines of piping going along the floor in his eagerness, not that being thrown flat against the wall seems to deter his excitement any. He seems perfectly happy being able to nuzzle the cold metal and run his hands over the exposed framework. Prying himself away finally, he starts taking in the rest of the main corridor as he works his way towards the cockpit.
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

i hadn't even noticed lol

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2023-01-04 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
She follows him onto the ship, and Lauri-Ell clearly dislikes this one, given how much is bare here. She has to duck more than she likes, but she follows him.

"I will warn you, you wll not be able to fly this ship without the appropriate datapoint."
thepurpleone: (I can divide by biography!!)

ships are hereby now the First Blood and the Breathsport

[personal profile] thepurpleone 2023-01-04 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It's rather retro in the turtle's book, but he kind of digs the vibe. "Colored LED lighting would really make this place pop," he says, probably envisioning upgrades as he strolls along. "Just run it through the open paneling, along the pipes- I'm thinking heliotrope!"

Donatello pops his head into the cockpit with a gasp, eyes practically sparkling as he takes in all the controls, or maybe it's just the lighting. He is quick to plop himself into the pilot's chair, hands raised high with all six of his digits wiggling in preparation like a maestro readying himself to direct an orchestra.

There's practically an audible record screech as he freezes abruptly, midway of grasping the flight yoke.

"-Sorry, what now?"
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

I dare Cayde to paint new names on them

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2023-01-04 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
She would ask about Heliotrope later. For now she is almost amused by his reaction, how he pauses. He didn't know?

"You must have the datapoint to fly the ship. And even then I believe it only flies between cities."
thepurpleone: (oh...)

you do that and you will get more than names

[personal profile] thepurpleone 2023-01-04 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Disappointment manifests in a pout on the turtle teen's face as he drops his hands to his sides. It lasts for the span of two seconds before he leaps back up onto his feet.

"All right, where's the datapoint? It's one of those sphere thingies, right? Download the instructions like in that one old movie? I guess if the city's abandoned then it makes sense. Impractical, but with no one else to tell you how to work anything..."

His gaze slides back over towards the console. "I bet I could figure it out though! How hard can it be?"
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

oooh good point

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2023-01-04 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't know. I do not attempt to seek out piloting. I have other work to do," she points out. But she's intrigued by his spirit.

"Who are you?"
thepurpleone: (veeery suspicious)

[personal profile] thepurpleone 2023-01-04 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That's as good as saying 'give it a shot' in his book, so it's unsurprising that he vaults back into the chair, scrutinizing the array of buttons and switches before him. "This is a lot more buttons than the Jupiter Jim Moon Buggy..." he observes, fingering his chin.

"Nuh? Oh, I'm Donatello."
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2023-01-04 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am from a spacefaring species and have piloted many shuttles and I cannot make this work without the datapoint. You should accept disappointment for now."

She definitely is worried he's going to break something. Maybe she should summon someone convincing.

"Perhaps you should speak to one of our pilots."
thepurpleone: (soooo...)

[personal profile] thepurpleone 2023-01-04 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ow. I hope you don't plan to be a motivational speaker any time soon." Telling him he should accept this as an unsolvable conundrum is practically a slap in the face. It also tells him this is a Challenge that he must obviously ignore such hearsay and Overcome.

Donatello is definitely not looking towards her and studying the buttons even harder. What is your secret??? His fingers don't touch anything yet but he points at one then another as he tries to make some sense of the configuration.

"I mean, I suppose I could do that..." he murmurs in that tone that suggests it would be a last resort kind of thing.
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2023-01-04 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Motivational speaker? What is that? Well, it didn't matter because things were already rolling on now.

"You are not concerned that you will cause harm to the systems, are you?"
thepurpleone: (theoretically you'd both be ghosts so)

[personal profile] thepurpleone 2023-01-04 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Donnie rolls his eyes at that. "No, not really, but in the event that such happens, I will simply have to repair it," he says matter-of-factly.

Even so, the whole control panel looks frustratingly chaotic in that it doesn't seem very clear how anything is divided. He can assume the ones closest to the steering yoke power the ship on but that's still assumption. The blue backseat driver is also starting to make him nervous. What will she do if he actually starts pushing buttons?
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2023-01-04 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
She will be nervous, which she already is. This is concerning.

"This is unsafe. You should consider something else."
thepurpleone: (HRMMm)

[personal profile] thepurpleone 2023-01-04 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
His finger bounces in the air between buttons as he seems to have resorted to the most scientific method of 'eenie-meenie-miney-mo.'

"I think I've got it. I've narrowed it down to this set of controls," Donatello says, breezing over Lauri-Ell's concerns. "Unless for whatever reason it was built with left-handed people in mind. But then the left side doesn't look all that much different from the right side so I'm going with this one."

He reaches over to push a button.
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2023-01-04 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Lauri-Ell will be amused over the screen that protects the forward view port closing. Yes, that was clearly what he intended to have happen.
thepurpleone: (What happened to Dr Delicate Touch)

[personal profile] thepurpleone 2023-01-04 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"....."

Donatello, unlike Lauri-Ell, is not amused at all as he squints at the sudden lack of a front view. Annoyed, he taps the button again, hoping it will release the screen.

"Okay, that wasn't it. Clearly whoever designed this was not very practical-minded." And clearly that just means he must try another button. This one looks good.
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2023-01-04 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
The screen reopens with the repeated press. And the next button seems to start up the seat warmer, not that Lauri-Ell knows it.

"I don't think that one did anything."
thepurpleone: (oh i knew it)

[personal profile] thepurpleone 2023-01-04 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"What is the point of having a button that does nothing?!" Donnie points at said button accusingly. How dare you, button. How. Dare. You.

But he's not about to let a spaceship get the best of him, oh-ho no! There's more buttons where that came from! It's perhaps a good thing that his little brother isn't here to help him.

"One of these has to do something useful!" he grumbles as he starts jabbing at more of them.
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2023-01-05 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh there are a slew of actions then. Lights flickering off, a PA system coming on and broadcasting the noise of the button pushes, and at last a sort of humming that should be the engine starting. And then going off.
thepurpleone: (SAVE THE PIZzA)

[personal profile] thepurpleone 2023-01-05 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Mentally he's trying to keep track, dismissing whatever seems irrelevant, his expression growing more and more frustrated with each button press.

"-wait, waitwait!" Donnie backtracks, his finger freezing from its previously ceaseless tapping as his eyes focus back on the other button. "This one? It was this one, right? What happened, did it not turn over?"

Hope stoked anew, he depresses the button again.
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2023-01-05 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
"I told you, it will not function."

He is very stubborn, that much is clear. Lauri-Ell sighs as he punches the button again, and yes, the engines seem to start up again, before shutting back off. Clearly he is not valid to start these processes. Or she thought so.
thepurpleone: (I am an arti- err scienteest)

[personal profile] thepurpleone 2023-01-05 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
"That makes no sense! Don't tell me- are these things 'coded' to specific users too, is that it??" Donnie complains, bringing up his fingers for air-quotes. Abruptly he sags in the chair, sliding down like a deflating balloon.

"All I ever wanted since I was a tiny turtle tot was to fly a spaceship," he laments. "And now I'm actually sitting in one and it refuses to work because of some illogical programming!"
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2023-01-05 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes. Pilots. People with the piloting datapoint," she said. Hadn't she already explained that? He definitely hadn't listened to her when she said it, but she wasn't entirely shocked. Some men were like that.

"Get the datapoint and you'll get to fly one."
thepurpleone: (ohoho no)

[personal profile] thepurpleone 2023-01-05 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"See?! Illogical!" he huffs, tossing his arms up before he folds them across his chest, still slumped in his seat. "Who do these aliens think they are!"
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2023-01-06 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
"They believe they are the Agrii, who have brought us here to save them," she points out. And what more is needed that that? They know they need help, and if they let He Rows go without their permission, who will save them?
