WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Winter in Temba and Sh'Ka
Winter has arrived on Agra 10 and with it its cold temperatures, sharp winds and, you guessed it, snow. It starts slow and gentle in Temba, but even such gentle snowfall tends to build up and over the course of a few days of constant snowfall, the city has been covered with a white, roughly knee-deep blanket - Unless someone actually remembered to keep some of the paths clear.

And it still keeps snowing. The cold is also causing some of the Shadowpaws to be drawn to the inhabited buildings of Temba in search for shelter. The further away from the library one is, the more likely it gets that they may share one's living space and bless anyone else living there with nightmares. The area around the library remains free of the shadowpaws thanks to the mothcats residing there.

Over in Sh'Ka, a similar picture has been painted. But being situated within all these tall trees paints a somewhat different picture. A more icy one. All the by now leaf-free trees are covered in a thick layer of ice, as are Sh'Ka's stone-carved buildings. The wind here is harsher than it is in Temba, which has been comparably wind-free.

Please try not to slip and hurt yourself while marveling at either city.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

The two currently crewless ships are open for anyone to step inside and have a look around, maybe even use for a nap.

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

Salem Saberhagen // Sabrina the Teenage Witch

[personal profile] catchable 2022-12-04 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
a. Arrival
A dusting of snow stood on the fur of the sleek, black cat when the chill finally encouraged him from sleep, to an irritable flick of his tail, to slitting open his yellow eyes. This wasn't the plush throne of a benevolent emperor. And what happened to the piles of money? When the terrible dream persisted, the cat had to admit another flick of displeasure, this time an ear, before he was lifting his head, and squirming around to consider that weird lump under his belly. The textured cover of the book he was laying on was digging into his delicate parts. Attacked from all angles, absolutely no reprieve.

When he did give a proper look around to try to spot who had made it snow in his house, his eye was immediately caught by the glowing ball above. It stayed there, entranced, pupils huge and black as he made the leap up onto the ledge of the fountain, not even aware of the near threat of water with his focus so intently on Orb. Orb was friend. Orb was beautiful. Orb was going to get slapped. He had to stretch up on his hind legs to reach it.

Seconds later, full of regret and limping around to avoid putting down one soggy paw, Salem was off of the fountain and searching for somewhere warm and soft to go back to sleep and put an end to this increasingly horrible dream, spell, or inevitable psychological breakdown. Spending so long as a cat was bound to do that to a man. If it was a spell, it was a good thing he had the book, maybe. Insofar as the book could tell him what kind of spell. Using the book was another matter altogether, and the first problem to solve was going to be moving it at all, because it couldn't stay out here in the ever mounting snow. It was already starting to disappear, its decorative leather cover mounded with white. Salem tried grabbing it with his teeth first, searching for enough of an edge to get a hold on and pull, then went around to try to push across the stone with his nose, then his head, paws just slipping in the snow and toes getting colder by the second. A surprisingly human, mournful sob broke out and echoed across the town square. It might have begged, "Pleee-he-he-hease..."

b. Shadowpaws
The room was clearly lived in. Not exactly well appointed, by any means. Not fit for someone of Salem's stature. But there were blankets, and pillows, and a half full glass of water that someone must have left there recently. Who the room definitely did not belong to was the gentleman that Salem had followed in here. Gentleman was a generous title, as he did not stop to make a formal introduction, and most gentlemen didn't scamper up walls. This one, both furry and feathery and thus delectable, had to have been in here somewhere, because they had come in through the same window. Salem waited, ears twisting to listen (trying to hear over the eager grumble of his stomach), until telltale movement had him crouching and ready.

Their eyes met across the room. It could have been love. Or fear, it was possible the thing just peed a little.

It moved first, a burst of action that sent it scrabbling up the blankets. Salem tore after it, scratching his way up the fabric, tearing the pillows where he landed on them, rending the wallpaper as he pushed off the wall and sending the glass splattering across the room as they both went barrelling by it. At this point, the scene could only be better set with a generous splash of blood.

I. Icy Sh'Ka
Apparently his attempts to escape the deep snow and chill of his point of arrival had been insufficient to that end. Which was of course frustrating because there was little that could make a chill quite so miserable as wearing full armor. But Jasper had gone seeking shelter and had far from expected the long, metal tube he was sheltering in to close, produce a cheery chime, and then start moving. It had been a wonder and a shock, and one that he had far from appreciated.

What had been appreciated far less had been stepping out into the point of arrival when prompted by another chime, to see the state of things here.

"Ugh, just as Sniflheim ever was," he hissed in distaste as he let his eyes cast about for possible shelter. Surely there was somewhere here with warmth, if there was still active magic which might haul one to and fro in such a manner. Truly if the magicly charged metal tube could whisk him about so, he did not dare make use of it again, lest he end up further afield.

"Would that I were done with the horrid curse that of snow and ice."
II. What Vessel Is This
At least this space was warm. Jasper had not exactly liked the conditions outside, and at least here the troubling vessel could keep him warm. Once he was inside Jasper immediately started to shed the layers of his armor, trying to get the cold metal off to leave him in the padded tunic under it.

"Perhaps I should have done more specialization in Frizz class spells," Jasper sighed as he put the armor on the hangar floor to let them dry out. "The warmth would have been of value."

With that done he sighed and cast his eyes about. Time to figure out if he could find some food here. Which in this case he did by heading further into this strange metal structure.

"Like a sea vessel, but more claustrophobic. I had not thought such a thing to be possible."

Eli Vanto | Star Wars (CRAU)

[personal profile] backwaterimperial 2022-12-18 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Arrival
Eli thought he had enough trans-dimensional travel for one lifetime, but now he finds himself spirited away to yet another universe far from the Empire and Ascendancy. Eli wonders if he's just cursed or if that Force thing had a sense of humor. He wipes off the snow from his arms and legs, cursing the cold.

He makes his way into the city, hoping that it's not abandoned that that someone there might be able to help him.

Spaceships
Eli has to marvel at the ships, having served on quite a lot of them in his lifetime. They aren't as huge as a Star Destroyer or Chiss warship, but he still has to marvel. He wonders if he'd be allowed to serve on one, just for the familiarity.

Making sure that nobody's looking, he sneaks onto one of the non-crewed ones, to get a sense of what they're like on the inside. "Definitely no Star Destroyer." Not that that's a bad thing.

Donatello // Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

[personal profile] thepurpleone 2023-01-03 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
i. Arrival
"GAH!"

A figure in green and purple abruptly sits up in the snow in the middle of the city square, teeth chattering, eyes bugging wide. Closer observation would reveal him to actually be a green figure wearing accents of purple. He shudders as he struggles to get up out of the fluffy whiteness, throwing his arms around himself in an attempt to warm up.

"What- where..??" He is not sure at all how he got here and the abrupt cold he's found himself in is making it difficult to keep his thoughts straight. But there is something that manages to draw his attention, even amidst the frigid temperatures. "Huh..?" Inexplicably pulled towards the floating orb by the frozen fountain. With some reluctance he pulls his hands free from where he'd had them tucked under his arms, hesitating before he grabs the data point. What happens next steals his breath, leaving only the faintest trail of vapor as he stares at nothing while somehow seeing everything. It's all over much too fast, and he finds himself staring at the orb there in his hands, finally releasing another steaming breath.

"Wh-whoa..." That was amazing. And perhaps a little disturbing. Some kind of data transfer? Direct upload into his brain? That's...

His teeth chatter again as he dances about in an effort to keep warm as he shoves his hands once again under his armpits, looking around. This is supposed to be some kind of city, if that orb was showing him the same place. There had to be somewhere warm around here...!

ii. Explore
Traversing around the city in this accursed weather is a nightmare when you don't have shoes...or clothes, really. At least back home he's usually prepared for winter and can dress appropriately! How cruel these aliens are for throwing him, ill-prepared, into a mostly abandoned city!

The building he's stumbled into seems to be climate-controlled to some degree, the teenager sinking blissfully to the floor of the greenhouse once the chill of outside is shut behind him. Once he thaws out a bit he finally pushes himself up, eyes widening at the sight around him. Being nearly frozen stiff is practically forgotten as he looks beyond the drawer-lined walls and towards where the actual plants are housed. He pulls himself back a bit, looking thoughtfully at the tiny drawers flanking him, opening a few to inspect their contents or lack thereof.

"Seeds..? Wonder how long they've been in here..." he murmurs as he lets a pinch of them fall back into the open drawer. It's then that he spies the data point nearby, expression brightening as he slips over towards it, fingers wiggling anxiously.

"Hellooo, and what kind of delicious information have you for me?"

iii. Spaceship!
A bona fide hanger with bona fide spaceships. "Am I dreaming? I hope I'm not dreaming." Donatello reaches to pinch himself before pausing as he reconsiders. He chews on his lip and pushes through with it, and then yelps at the pain to follow.

"I'm not dreaming!" That alone has enough implications but he sits that in the backseat as he dashes over to the first of the shuttles sitting there, throwing himself against the hull as though to hug it. He's circling all about the thing, putting his little three-digit hands all over it before he gets around to what he determines to be the main hatch.

"Strange, no door controls. Is it voice-activated? Unlock? Hatch open? ....oh come on!" He paws ineffectually at the thing.

Albert Wesker || Resident Evil (5)

[personal profile] sunglassesincluded 2023-01-07 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
I - Exploration + Deep End
A tall man dressed entirely in black is a stark contrast to the snow covering the ground for sure. Not that it is in Wesker's interest to hide his presence as he takes in the state of this unfamiliar place that allegedly is an entirely different planet even. A claim that yet needs to be proven, of course. For all he knows he could have been heavily drugged and currently be stuck in this ridiculous fever dream which it now means to escape. If this were the case, he'd have precious time wasted again. But he'd get to that part once he figured this little puzzle out.

It doesn't take long to figure that this place is in no fit state at all even though restoration attempts are obvious in many areas of the city. The sparse population is another obvious detail to take note of. One that aligns with the information he has... Received. Another circumstance that still leaves him with questions he is yet unsure who to direct at.

One of the least expected discoveries he finds himself making is a bar in what may at some point have been an apartment complex. The view outside the windows is intriguing, as is the available selection of drinks that barely is met with recognition on Wesker's end upon closer inspection. If this turns out to be a dream he needs to track out whoever created the drug they used on him to create such elaborate effects as to maintain his sense of taste and smell along with his lucidity. That person either needs to die or might come in useful later.

He settles for a dark, bitter smelling liquid before sitting down at one of the tables and finally takes a moment to study the phone he has found himself with. "This shouldn't be too hard to figure out."

II - Network || audio
[ The voice that comes over the network is perfectly calm and collected. Almost evenly measured with just the faintest hint of underlying annoyance around the edges. ]

I was given to understand that I am to use this phone in order to make contact with others that share my... Situation.

If anyone can deliver proof that this is really happening, I am waiting.

Kei Okazaki | Collar x Malice

[personal profile] protectionisaservice 2023-01-09 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
..::|| Winter in Temba ||::..

It's particularly cold outside, even while Kei wears his coat. And there's so much snow. As soft and fluffy as it looks, well... Even he knows it's not going to be a very comfortable place to sleep for long. He'll get cold, and then he might freeze. It sure didn't stop him from playing in it. But it did force him to sleep indoors.

He supposes even his own home never felt like home. But this one feels even less so. He'd bought some convenience store food and a few drinks to make sure he at least had dinner. And when he hears a clutter, he goes to check it out to find a Shadowpaw. It's really cute, honestly. But it doesn't seem like it wants much to do with Kei. But that's fine. He can accept that. It's pretty cold outside, so he lays some of the food out as a small offering to the creature and lets it be.

But as he's wandering outside, there's bags under his eyes. He's looking around shops that are particularly geared towards sleeping. He's got two different pillows under one arm, a giant stuffed animal under another, and is clutching a bag that contains a few varieties of things also conducive towards sleeping, such as eye masks and aromatherapy.

However, not being able to sleep has caught up to him, and he just...

Collapses. Right there. He doesn't care that it's cold out. And he's snoring immediately.

Someone might want to help him before he freezes to death.

..::|| Deep End ||::..

Kei had been at least curious enough to explore. Whether that means finding his way home or just getting the lay of the land. So when it come to patroling abandoned buildings, it's practically second nature. He finds a few comfortable places to nap, and then resumes his journey after waking. This is pretty relaxing, for the most part. And he supposes it's not the worst thing to be pulled/kidnapped to... wherever this strange place is, honestly. His job back hom was pretty much not what he wanted to do anyway. Reporting movements under the guise of protection always sat wrong with him.

Although that posed its own problems for his desires, didn't it? But he's pushing those aside for now. He's waited more than two years. He's sure he can make it longer. This is fine.

What he wasn't expecting to find was some deep corner that contained a bar. With a hum of thought, he thinks that maybe a drink wouldn't be so bad.

He goes in, settles himself down, and asks the bartender to bring him the strangest drink they have. The bartender brings him what can only be described as a pineapple bloody mary. And he looks eager to try it. He gives a glance at you, and figures he might as well be sociable.

"To new friends, then," he raises the glass before taking a large gulp from his drink.

i. arrival
"Oh, and you just think you're soooooo smart."

The snow was deep enough that she had to hop and wade more than walk through it. Even the shallower bits had her scraping along up to her belly, paws frozen and frigid. She couldn't feel her extremities, and it didn't help her progress that she had to pause every few minutes to try and groom some life back into them. Frostbite was the last thing anyone needed out here.

"Of course you're going to touch it. Because you're a genius. Graduate of the college! Society's finest, coming through— idiot cat."

She had, of course, touched the orb. And then— well. It had been an experience, to say the least. Now here she is, stuck in yet another stupid situation that no one with sense could possibly have gotten themselves into; a cat, on a strange new world, up to here in snow. Someone help her.

ii. civilization
She's used to fire, or at least to lamplight; it wasn't common, but sometimes it was necessary, particularly to guide, at night. Plenty of alembics produced light, after all, and being able to do what you wanted despite the time of day was one of the great hallmarks of Society. But electric lights? That's whole new experience.

Frankly, Quintet's mostly just happy to find a place to come in out of the cold.

So, whether you're sitting somewhere warm and quiet, or someplace busy and... somewhat less than calm, there's a cat leaping up beside you with characteristic abruptness. There's a flower wrapped around her neck, collar-like. She looks the situation over, considers her options, and in clear language says, "Hey guy, got anything to eat? I'm good for the credit."

a. Arrival (non-spoiler version)

Guitar slung over his back, Eddie blinked and looked around at the sudden winter chill. This...wasn't Hawkins- either version of it. "The shit-??" he started, before abrupted becoming transfixed by the datapoint.

After he touched it he stumbled back with wide eyes.

"Shit, shit, shit," he cursed, punching the air momentarily in frustration. Naturally this would be the next step in the mess his life had become in the last week. Why not??

He looked around with an exasperated look for Dustin, and paused as it sunk in that the kid wasn't here. "...Henderson??" he called, mind not ready to accept that he was alone again, "Buddy?? I don't like this. Where are you???"

b. Arrival (spoiler version, may/will deal with content from the end of season 4, highlight to read, CW: blood)

Eddie blinked and the world seemed to turn upside down. He was no longer flat on his back, Dustin was no where to be seen, and the spores of the Upsidedown had been replaced with a light flurry of snow. For half a second Eddie didn't feel that choking pain, and he wondered if he was dead. Transfixed by the datapoint, the pain shot back in sharp focus as he took unsteady steps towards it.

"...What the...shit?" he rasped once it released him, stumbling as his legs refused to support him any longer. He looked down in confusion at his blood staining the snow. Where had the snow come from? He tried to rouse himself, struggling against his body's urge to drift off. This wasn't right. Where was Henderson? He had to get back to the kid.

c. Hirefire Club 2.0 (assume he's been here for a bit)

Eddie smirked from the other side of the booth, looking his potential applicant over like a lord surveying his lands. Amusement tugged at his lips as he lifted his chin, spreading his hands and welcoming- "Sell me on your character, Man. What would you bring to the campaign?"

Arrival

The newest resident in Temba is a small boy that looks to be about ten or eleven and he is nowhere near dressed for the winter weather. He's in a short-sleeved blue and white shirt that leaves his arms exposed to the elements. Another thing to note is the Yellow ball of fluff settled on his shoulder and curled close to his neck. Maybe they're keeping each other warm?

"I just don't get it, Pikachu." He's muttering to himself as he looks around the fountain. "How come there's not a single Pokémon around?" The little mouse like creature makes a small noise 'Pika...' in response. "Maybe it's because it's too cold?"

He glances around again but he knows his theory doesn't hold water because there are plenty of Pokémon that need to live in snow and ice to survive. It's more that the idea that he's so far removed from his universe that Pokémon don't even exist is not a nice thought. Where did Palkia even send them? Or could this have been done by Giratina? At least he's got Pikachu here with him. All he can really do at the moment is hope whichever one sent him here will come and bring him back.

The Diner

After having gotten some kind of explanation about where and why he's here, and having no luck in finding any Pokémon, Ash heads to the diner because if he can't find a Pokémon to befriend then he's gonna find a meal.

He pushes the door open and quickly looks around, just thinking about food has his stomach growling in protest about how empty it is. Ash doesn't really know the last time he ate but it feels like it's been hours which means Pikachu is probably starving now, too.

"Hello?" He calls out, shutting the door behind him. At the same time his constant companion mimicks his tone with a 'Pikachu?'. "Is anyone here?"

I. Arrival / Winter
Link wakes to the sound of his teeth chattering.

He'd been in Gerudo Town, with Zelda. Naturally, he'd been dressed appropriately, in his Gerudo outfit, complete with veil, sirwal, and breezy midriff-baring top. For a visit to the desert town, it was perfect.

For this strange place Link had suddenly woken up it, it was absolutely not.

His teeth chatter even harder as he clambers to his feet, shivering terribly. Where's his flame blade?

...He does not have his flame blade. Or, indeed, anything else. Not his armor, not his paraglider, not his extensive collection of materials and ingredients. Not even his korok-enchanted pack. He still has Sword that Seals the Darkness, still strapped to his back - but everything else is gone.

There's a moment of horror at this revelation. A very cold moment.

II. Exploring Temba
Once he's got warmer clothing and isn't going to freeze to death, well, of course Link is going to explore. And Link's always had one particular approach that he always takes first.

Go up.

He wants to climb that tall building, with the see-through walls! But said walls are too slippery for even Link to grab onto, so he has to pick another. Surely but steadily, Link climbs up the outside of the building.

Of course, as he passes by any windows, he makes sure to take a peek inside. Just to see.

I. Wintery Arrival
Fun fact: strappy high heeled platform shoes, a short green dress, and a leather jacket are not suitable winter fashion. Of course a few minutes ago it had been the start of September in Tokyo after a very hot summer, so the outfit had been perfectly reasonable then and there. Here and now, standing on the ice layer at the bottom of a fountain, hand lowering from a glowing orb that every scientific part of her brain screamed 'do not touch' (she had of course touched it), this was basically the worst possible choice.

"It's okay, I just love frostbite," Tae grumbled to herself as she stepped carefully over the edge of the fountain and onto the broken ground. At least it looked like someone had bothered to clear some snow nearby.

II. You Call This A Hospital?
"Terrible."

Tae sighed as she looked around the space. The walls were too tall to easily clean, the place relatively dusty from lack of regular use, and don't even get her started on the lack of appropriate tools she'd seen around. With a sigh she sat herself down in a chair in one of what she had concluded to be exam rooms.

"Setting myself up as a small-town quack was easier than this was going to be. You'd think that 'aliens' would have advanced medical technology or something."

III. Network
So what is this, like a community forum thing, or some new form of Twitter? Well, I suppose it's not important. Better question is this: where do you get clothes around here? I wasn't exactly dressed for some strange sort of abduction, and my shoes are not going to cut it.

Oh, and hair dye. Where can I get that?
