WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Winter in Temba and Sh'Ka
Winter has arrived on Agra 10 and with it its cold temperatures, sharp winds and, you guessed it, snow. It starts slow and gentle in Temba, but even such gentle snowfall tends to build up and over the course of a few days of constant snowfall, the city has been covered with a white, roughly knee-deep blanket - Unless someone actually remembered to keep some of the paths clear.

And it still keeps snowing. The cold is also causing some of the Shadowpaws to be drawn to the inhabited buildings of Temba in search for shelter. The further away from the library one is, the more likely it gets that they may share one's living space and bless anyone else living there with nightmares. The area around the library remains free of the shadowpaws thanks to the mothcats residing there.

Over in Sh'Ka, a similar picture has been painted. But being situated within all these tall trees paints a somewhat different picture. A more icy one. All the by now leaf-free trees are covered in a thick layer of ice, as are Sh'Ka's stone-carved buildings. The wind here is harsher than it is in Temba, which has been comparably wind-free.

Please try not to slip and hurt yourself while marveling at either city.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

The two currently crewless ships are open for anyone to step inside and have a look around, maybe even use for a nap.

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

He hasn't expected Cal to be able to dodge that, but the fact that he is is impressive enough to give Wesker a pause in which to regard the young man with the hint of a smirk at the corner of his mouth. Not bad.

"I'm not unused to disappointments." He states, straightening his back. "And I attacked you because you insisted I believe that ridiculous little tale. You're not without skill, I give you that. What are they paying you to play along in this?"
out_of_order: (i smell like what)

[personal profile] out_of_order 2023-01-10 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Cal doesn't like that smirk at all. It's worse than the neutral look the man was wearing earlier, somehow.

He frowns, clearly on his guard now. "I'm telling you the truth. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you need to fight me about it. Like I said, I'm not working for anyone. Or who do you think I might be working for?"
sunglassesincluded: (Keep talking)

[personal profile] sunglassesincluded 2023-01-10 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"If it's the truth, you can prove it, I assume." Wesker is quick to challenge, crossing his arms now, which doesn't mean he can't simply attack again in the blink of an eye. "If you have no proof other than that glowing ball, I have to assume you are working for someone that wants me dead. Which isn't happening." And that's a pretty long list, so Wesker won't bother giving any names.
out_of_order: (leave me aloooone)

[personal profile] out_of_order 2023-01-10 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The padawan knows better than to relax even if the man looks like he's at ease. He'd already proven he could move quickly and without warning.

"That's usually my own concern," Cal admits. The Agrii haven't brought in any people that might seek to try carrying out that intent on the lost Jedi but this man is a different problem altogether. "What kind of proof do you need? The Agrii only ever speak to us through the network. The city, this world we're in isn't in any known part of the galaxy I'm familiar with. There are the ships in the hangar but you can't even take them out to orbit."
sunglassesincluded: (Don't eat that.)

[personal profile] sunglassesincluded 2023-01-11 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Wesker raises a brow above the rim of his sunglasses. "Orbit." He directs his eyes up towards the sky. Spaceships, aliens, galaxies. None of that makes sense.

His attention returns to Cal. "Show me those ships."
out_of_order: (don't answer big doors)

[personal profile] out_of_order 2023-01-11 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Cal mirrors the expression then, brow arching. "You're going to have to forgive me for not trusting you to walk behind me after what you tried earlier," he points out.
sunglassesincluded: (Keep talking)

[personal profile] sunglassesincluded 2023-01-11 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
Producing a small sound that may be one of slight bemusement, Wesker shrugs and for once takes his attention away from Cal to look down the road they are on, guessing the direction. "Fair enough. You dodged once. If I decide to kill you, you won't manage to do so again."

Though Cal has left his impression. Wesker may not have aimed to actually kill him with that first attack, but that the Padawan managed to avoid the blow entirely is a detail Wesker will keep in mind.

He starts walking down the road in a random direction, hands clasps idly on his own back and leaving the navigating to Cal, even if he were to choses to do so from the backseat. "So who would be after you?"
out_of_order: (sass)

[personal profile] out_of_order 2023-01-11 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's supposed to make me feel better?" His expression remains the same, but there is the slightest hint of sarcasm in his tone. Not that he's at all amused, but he wouldn't mind proving Wesker wrong.

All the more reason to keep on his toes around this guy...

At least Wesker starts ahead of him. Fair enough. Cal begins to walk after him eventually. "Take the next right once we get to the edge of those ruins," he says.

He doesn't respond to the other question right away, mentally crafting his response to be as vague as possible. The man clearly had his secrets, and Cal wants to keep his own too. "The ones working for the Empire. They have a habit of wanting to snuff out people who don't agree with them."
sunglassesincluded: (I told you to leave)

[personal profile] sunglassesincluded 2023-01-11 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
“No.” Is the very factual answer Cal receives to his question and Wesker isn’t inclined to add anything else to that. He does follow the instructions given, however, head tilted to the side a little to indicate that he’s listening.

“Sounds familiar.” In fact, what Cal describes is common tactic for many organizations and governments alike. Wesker himself has killed several people for that very reason and it’s the reason William Birkin ended up as a raging monstrosity. “Can’t say I ever heard about the Empire, though.” There’s a brief pause, then: “Albert Wesker.”
out_of_order: (don't answer big doors)

[personal profile] out_of_order 2023-01-11 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The reply sends a cold chill down his spine, distinctive even against the frigid temperature around them. Cal however continues to walk. The man puts him on edge in a different way than the Purge Troopers or even the Inquisitors. Probably because you know what their intent is, he thinks.

The padawan lifts his head at that. A name, huh. The man might not see it, but he nods. "Given your response about aliens and ships I figure you're probably not from anywhere in my galaxy. It'd be hard not to have heard of the Empire by now. It's been five years since the Clone Wars. The Republic and the Confederacy have both become integrated into a greater power and I can't say it's much better."
sunglassesincluded: (You did WHAT?)

[personal profile] sunglassesincluded 2023-01-11 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
There it is again. Aliens, ships, galaxies. Now also a Republic, a Confederacy and something called the Clone Wars. If Wesker has any opinions to either of that, he doesn’t voice it, but given the sharp glance he casts over his shoulder and deep red glow that can be seen around the edge of his dark frames, he remains irritated in at least some way.

The appearance of a large building up ahead is a welcome alternative and Wesker nods forward. “Is that it?” The hangar.

out_of_order: (i smell like what)

[personal profile] out_of_order 2023-01-11 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
He doesn't have to voice it; Cal can sense that sentiment quite easily, his own eyes narrowing slightly back at the man when Wesker does look back at him. The man can be as annoyed as he wants but Cal's just simply stating fact.

Once the hangar comes into view, he nods. "That'd be it. You're assigned to a certain ship, so don't be surprised if some of them don't open up for you."
sunglassesincluded: (Seven minutes...)

[personal profile] sunglassesincluded 2023-01-11 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
To Wesker none of these are facts until any of them can be proven. So for the time being he has neither reason nor intention to believe any of this alien stuff.

What's easy enough to believe is that this building is, indeed, a hangar. It's massive. Which it has to be in order to house the collection of vessels within, each of them easily the size of a passager plane. All things considered, they may very well be decomissioned planes. Planes with their wings clipped and dressed up- Admittedly wildly. An unusual amount of effort for a ruse.

Wesker spots the lingering data point nearby and just frowns at it. That must be how they are monitoring him. A camera. He doesn't like that he can't explain how it's floating. And yet Wesker steps right in front of the data point, seizing it up with his eyes and crosses his arms before adressing it. "Chris, if this is your doing then I'm disappointed. I thought the BSAA knew better than to make up fairytales about aliens and expect me to believe them. Then again, you were always lacking behind, weren't you. But Spencer is dead now. And with him the last shred of Umbrella has died as well. And if you value the lives of your little agents here, show yourself and we end this ridiculous charade before they end up like that arrogant old man."
out_of_order: (sass)

[personal profile] out_of_order 2023-01-11 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
If there's anything Cal has to be impressed about, it's the man's sincere doubt that anything he's been told is truth. He watches him as they enter the hangar, head tilting then as something else other than the ships catches Wesker's attention.

Before he can offer any explanation, the man seems to have chosen his next opponent. When he starts speaking to it, the padawan can only blink. Very little of what Wesker divulges in his threats to the orb make sense, but it doesn't put Cal at ease either way. Still, he waits until Wesker's finished before he opens his mouth.

"...I'm not sure what you think it is, but it's not a means of communication. At least, not in the way our tablets are." Does he look amused? Maaaaybe just the tiniest bit. "You saw the one in the city square, didn't you? By the fountain?"
sunglassesincluded: (Planning your demise)

[personal profile] sunglassesincluded 2023-01-11 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Wesker is still glaring at the orb as if awaiting a reaction from it when Cal speaks up from the side, pulling the older man's attention and the look of those expressionless shades back onto him. But aside from turning his head away, Wesker's posture doesn't change.

"I did." He replies. Touching that thing had been a mistake for sure. "If not for surveilance, then for what reason would it be here?" The question is asked with clear impatience in his voice. Impatience and annoyance at the bemusement he can notice on Cal's face.
out_of_order: (heard that before)

[personal profile] out_of_order 2023-01-11 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's an information transfer. They're called data points. There's several around the city holding specialized information on certain subjects that help us to understand how things work that we otherwise wouldn't be able to," Cal explains. He knows not to push it, his expression settling into something more neutral.

"The one in the square has the rundown of a limited history as to what's happened with the Agrii who lived here. This one will give you an understanding for how to operate the shuttles. Without it, you won't be able to fly." He sighs a little. "Unfortunately it's the only way to know how to work with certain things. I know most people here aren't a fan of the whole direct upload."
sunglassesincluded: (Leave)

[personal profile] sunglassesincluded 2023-01-12 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
A displeased grimace is what Cal receives in response before Wesker's disapproval is being directed at the data point again and from there creeps over to the grounded ships. "With all due respect, these don't look like they should be flown to begin with." And he is pretty sure he wouldn't know how to fly anything like this. Helicopters, yes. Those he had been trained to fly but nothing else.

The part with the information transfer, however... That part can be put to the test. The other orb had been drawing him in, this one not so much. It feels a little like admitting defeat when he reaches a hand out towards the data point and Wesker is ready to pull it back immediately should anything happen. But much to his displeasure he is proven wrong and nothing aside from the mentioned information transfer takes place. It doesn't even hurt. It's quick, clean, efficient and he pulls his hand back to himself again only to regard it for a moment as if his own limb has just betrayed him. He turns his attention over to the ship and has to admit that Cal hasn't lied about this particular detail.

"This is... Bad." Wesker concludes through half grit teeth but then shakes his head once before fully turning towards the ships and quickly stepping towards them. Maybe this isn't as bad after all. He can leave now!
out_of_order: (don't answer big doors)

[personal profile] out_of_order 2023-01-12 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
"They're not the greatest design," Cal admits. "But they do the job. When they're allowed to be taken anywhere off-world."

He watches as Wesker considers the data point again, brow lifting when the man finally commits to touching it. "Bad?" It's a vague comment so he's not sure which part the man might mean. When Wesker turns towards the ships, Cal looks a little uncertain, starting after him.
sunglassesincluded: (Leave)

[personal profile] sunglassesincluded 2023-01-12 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Allowed?" The man stops in in tracks which leaves him right in front of one of the ships. He'd almost be close enough to punch his growing frustration into the vessel's front. He's been trapped here. He certainly won't be asking permission to leave.

What's bad is that Wesker doesn't understand what just happened. How he can suddenly understand terms and processes he hadn't ever heard of before at all. And he hates not understanding. Uncertainty is not a feeling Wesker has any use for. Especially since the last time he had felt uneasy and anxious about anything it had turned out to be a trap programmed right into his mind.

Wesker picks up his step again, keeping his attention on the ships he passes. One of them should open up according to Cal and sure enough, one of them does. "I'm leaving." He announces plainly and enters the ship in question. If this has ever been a regular aircraft at any point in its existence, someone did a very good job at covering that up. Though Wesker has to admit at least to himself that he is beginning to doubt his own doubts.
out_of_order: (i smell like what)

[personal profile] out_of_order 2023-01-12 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It's why Cal isn't leaving the guy out of his sight. He's not sure what the man might do, even with knowledge of how to fly the ships.

"You won't get far," he says solemnly. "The only other place you can go with the ship is Sh'Ka, and it's not in much better state than Temba is." He steps up the ramp after, Wesker, pausing. "Permission to come aboard?"
sunglassesincluded: (Don't eat that.)

[personal profile] sunglassesincluded 2023-01-12 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That there are supposedly limited places he can take this ship is not information Wesker is too keen to simply accept. But he will have to find out. The other bit that has him pause again, if briefly, is the request.

“You’re asking me for permission now? If you tell
Me you’re a vampire next I will kill you.” The response is dry, but at least accompanied by a small wave of his hand that can vaguely interpreted as permission. As long as Cal doesn’t get in his way, Wesker doesn’t really care about what he’s doing.

He himself is headed straight for the cockpit, which is entirely alien to him while at the same time making a disturbing amount of sense. Space flight of the scale his head currently insists on just doesn’t exist!
out_of_order: (ugh more climbing)

[personal profile] out_of_order 2023-01-12 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's clear the reference is lost on the padawan, Cal only arching a brow at Wesker before he steps on inside after the man. Part of him wishes BD-1 were with him, but he'd left the little guy to recharge back at the workshop.

Cal gives Wesker plenty of space, hanging well back as the man heads up towards the front of the ship. "Still not wanting to believe what I've said about the place?"
sunglassesincluded: (Seven minutes...)

[personal profile] sunglassesincluded 2023-01-12 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
If there is one thing Wesker can appreciate it's that Cal is giving him the space he needs to figure things out on his own.

An obvious first step in the current situation is to take over the pilot's seat and use his newly acquired knowledge to assert control over the ship. The door closes, the engines come to life, the roof of the hangar opens up the path to the open sky above and the ship slowly climbs up into the air where it is left hovering, the cockpit facing the city the two men have just been walking through. Having taking his hands off the control, Wesker has leaned back in his seat, one hand's fingers tapping lightly against the seat's armrest to release at least a small degree of his inner tension while the other slowly opens and closes into a fist on his other side as he not only considers the view, but everything he has been told, seen and learned.

"No." He answers at last. "I don't want to believe it." A pause and a sharp exhale. "And yet here I am. Controlling an aircraft without ever being trained to do so while my own head tells me how to program coordinates to far away galaxies." He doesn't like it. Any of it. Having to admit defeat is one thing, but the repercussions of the entire tale being true and what that would mean for him are a whole different problem.

After another moment, Wesker allows pragmatism to take charge and let him come to a conclusion. "Guess I can't ignore the truth just because I don't like it."
out_of_order: (don't answer big doors)

[personal profile] out_of_order 2023-01-13 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Cal stays at the opening to the cockpit, bracing himself once the ship's taken up. He can't help but feel a slight pang as his thoughts briefly drift to when it would be Merrin in the pilot's seat. Once the ship steadies and it becomes clear they're not going anywhere, he leans back against the side wall, folding his arms.

At least Wesker's not unreasonable. Just stubborn. He could almost feel sorry for the man as he senses the conflicted emotions.

"...no. Ignoring things just because you don't like them won't change fact, unfortunately," he says as he glances at the man seated there.
sunglassesincluded: (Hidden thoughts)

[personal profile] sunglassesincluded 2023-01-13 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
Stubborn. And cautious. And at least at a bit of a loss. It had taken years to finally break free from Umbrella and its hold over him. Years of hunting down information and people. Stealing the first and eliminating the second. Years of building careers only to sacrifice them. Years of research, years of secrets, years of adapting not only to the loss of his humanity. But in the end it had all worked out, finally allowing him to properly set his mind on his own goals. Goals that he couldn't pursue now. Not without his contacts, his resources and anything he had built in secret.

Fine. He will consider it an unplanned detour. A detour that means he needs to reorganize his entire life. Again.

"I need a place where I can work." Which may sound like a sudden jump, but to Wesker it only makes sense to not waste any more time. He reaches over to the controls again to quickly enter the necessary commands to take the ship back down. "Since restoration efforts are apparently the goal, I need to know who organizes and oversees them. What utilities and resources are available? Any medical centers, labs, factories, notable structures not necessarily on this map." As he goes through the list, Wesker already steps away from the pilot seat again. He has no intention of taking this ship on some predetermined routes. Not when there is more important matters to attent to.
