WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Winter in Temba and Sh'Ka
Winter has arrived on Agra 10 and with it its cold temperatures, sharp winds and, you guessed it, snow. It starts slow and gentle in Temba, but even such gentle snowfall tends to build up and over the course of a few days of constant snowfall, the city has been covered with a white, roughly knee-deep blanket - Unless someone actually remembered to keep some of the paths clear.

And it still keeps snowing. The cold is also causing some of the Shadowpaws to be drawn to the inhabited buildings of Temba in search for shelter. The further away from the library one is, the more likely it gets that they may share one's living space and bless anyone else living there with nightmares. The area around the library remains free of the shadowpaws thanks to the mothcats residing there.

Over in Sh'Ka, a similar picture has been painted. But being situated within all these tall trees paints a somewhat different picture. A more icy one. All the by now leaf-free trees are covered in a thick layer of ice, as are Sh'Ka's stone-carved buildings. The wind here is harsher than it is in Temba, which has been comparably wind-free.

Please try not to slip and hurt yourself while marveling at either city.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

The two currently crewless ships are open for anyone to step inside and have a look around, maybe even use for a nap.

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

ziedrich_bearer: Gladio from FFXV (Default)

Yes, in a way, he was in the sky. But not quite in that way. He makes for the large, and heads for a small building around the edge of the square. It takes a little bit with how deep the snow could be, but soon he's pushing through the door and sighing in relief at the warmth.

"Yeah, not my planet either. Place is weird."

The warm air as they enter the diner is amazing. Though as Link scrambles off of Gladio's back, he still looks around for the source of the warmth - is there a fireplace he can sit next to?

Cold as it was outside, it's still going to take a little time for Link to warm up. He's certainly not letting go of the coat just yet.

"...I don't know how I got here," he confesses. Zelda had the Sheikah Slate, so it couldn't have warped him anywhere. And certainly it shouldn't have been able to warp him into the sky, regardless.
ziedrich_bearer: Gladio from FFXV (Default)

[personal profile] ziedrich_bearer 2023-02-10 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
No fireplace, sadly, but the kitchen is probably warmer, and Gladio's happy to herd the kid that way.

"The Agrii bring us. I'm guessing you didn't touch the datapoint then. IT explains a lot."
newmemorywhodis: (Neutral 14)

[personal profile] newmemorywhodis 2023-02-10 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Link is always happy to be in a kitchen. Although...he doesn't have his pack. Which means he doesn't have any of the ingredients stored in there. He can't cook anything.

"Datapoint?" Link says, as he instinctively moves towards the warmest part of the kitchen, hugging his arms around his chest to keep in even more warmth. Then, he remembers. "...The floaty light?"

He had been curious about that, in a distant way. He'd just been too distracted by the cold to do anything about it.
ziedrich_bearer: Gladio from FFXV (Soldier Through And Through)

[personal profile] ziedrich_bearer 2023-02-10 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"The floaty light. That one just tells us why we're here. The others teach you things."

He looks around the kitchen, and his cooking wasn't great. There were other people that ran this place, but he knew there was... Ah! He finds the big pot of stew, and a stack of bowls. He opens the former and serves some stew into the latter.

"Here, I'll go find what they use to heat water for tea."
newmemorywhodis: (Food 02)

[personal profile] newmemorywhodis 2023-02-10 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Floaty lights that teach things? It's a bit strange. But a lot of ancient Sheikah technology is strange too.

It does make him even more curious, though. Later, when he's warmed up - and has better clothes for the cold weather - he'll have to go back, and see exactly what happens when he pokes it.

For now, though, he's content to dig into the stew. "Thank you," he says - before wolfing it down at what is possibly an alarmingly fast rate.
ziedrich_bearer: Gladio from FFXV (Default)

[personal profile] ziedrich_bearer 2023-02-10 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Technology could be really messed up, Gladio knew this pretty well. Those glowing balls were way weirder than even what he'd known.

"Don't thank me. There's people that keep this place stocked. Some guys named Tommy and Radley, and a lady named Lark. They do a lot to feed people."
newmemorywhodis: (Neutral 10)

[personal profile] newmemorywhodis 2023-02-10 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Tommy, Radley, Lark? Link would have to remember them. Maybe they could give him the recipe, for the stew.

That does remind him, however. The mysterious man has given him a coat, brought him inside where it's warm, and given him stew - even if he didn't make it - and Link has no idea who he is.

"Who are you?" he asks, with a kind of blunt curiosity as he makes the stew disappear.
ziedrich_bearer: Gladio from FFXV (Default)

[personal profile] ziedrich_bearer 2023-02-10 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, there we get to it. Gladio starts the kettle on the stove and then gets himself a bow.

"Gladiolus, but I go by Gladio. And you?"
newmemorywhodis: (Neutral 02)

[personal profile] newmemorywhodis 2023-02-11 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
“Link,” he says. Gladio’s bow feels somewhat familiar, as a gesture, but Link doesn’t repeat it.

Greeting etiquette isn’t exactly something Link has retained much memory of. He remembers kneeling before Zelda, and the King. But they didn’t do anything back. The rules are opaque to him, so he just…doesn’t bother with them.

He gives a little nod of the head though, so that’s something.

“…Do you have boots?” Gladio mentioned boots before. Link’s middle is warming up nicely, but his feet - not so much.
ziedrich_bearer: Gladio from FFXV (Default)

[personal profile] ziedrich_bearer 2023-02-11 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if it would help... Gladio moves to lean against a counter to start unlacing his knee high boots.

"Give me a minute, Link."
newmemorywhodis: (Bashful 02)

[personal profile] newmemorywhodis 2023-02-11 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Link hesitates. "...These aren't your only boots?"

Because the possibility that this might be a temporary loan hasn't occurred to Link. And while he has shamelessly taken all of someone's footwear from them when given the opportunity, that was different. That was Bozai, who spent his time lurking outside Gerudo Town and leering at everyone coming in or out. Including Link, while he was wearing his Gerudo clothes.

Whereas Gladio had yet to make aggressive romantic overtures towards Link at all - even though Link was wearing that exact same Gerudo outfit. So doesn't want to leave the man without any shoes at all.
ziedrich_bearer: Gladio from FFXV (Default)

[personal profile] ziedrich_bearer 2023-02-11 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
"The others are in my room. Which is pretty far away."

So these are only a loaner, of course.

"Besides, my boots are clearly too big for you. You'll just have problems in them."
newmemorywhodis: (Neutral 07)

[personal profile] newmemorywhodis 2023-02-11 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. Guess Gladio does have bigger feet than Link...

"Is there a shop?" Although...Link's lost all of his rupies. Which might make buying new boots a little tricky, particularly when he needs boots to be able to go outside and find things to sell...
ziedrich_bearer: Gladio from FFXV (Soldier Through And Through)

[personal profile] ziedrich_bearer 2023-02-11 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that happens quite quickly when Gladio is very big in general.

"Not really. But people try and help each other. And we can probably replicate you some stuff, if we get some sizes.
newmemorywhodis: (Pensive 01)

[personal profile] newmemorywhodis 2023-02-11 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Probably not helped by the fact that not only is Gladio very big, Link is very...not big.

Link nods. He can understand people helping each other. After all, Link always likes helping people.

Although, when you get right down to it, the boots aren't really what Link wants to ask about at all.

"How do I get home?" Interesting as this place is...it's not Hyrule. Not to mentioned, Zelda's probably very worried right about now.
ziedrich_bearer: Gladio from FFXV (Default)

[personal profile] ziedrich_bearer 2023-02-11 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
No, Link is small. And with what he's wearing, well, Gladio's not even certain of the person's gender, and he refuses to assume. So for now he's just playing it safe.

"That's the bad news. You don't. Not until we either solve things here, or they send you back. I hear they're not good at that."
newmemorywhodis: (Pensive 08)

[personal profile] newmemorywhodis 2023-02-11 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
There's a moment of heavy silence. Link's face tends towards showing little of his thoughts and feelings even in the best of times - add in the veil, and it's possible to tell exactly how he's feeling in response to this question.

But lack of a response perhaps says everything.

"...How do we solve things here?" he says, eventually. Because if there is a way back home, then Link needs to find it.

He can't leave Zelda alone. Won't. Not after everything that happened.
ziedrich_bearer: Gladio from FFXV (Default)

[personal profile] ziedrich_bearer 2023-02-11 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Way I understand it? Stop unnatural storms that prevent the locals from living here."

Of course Gladio's a warrior, not a scientist. Not easy for him.
newmemorywhodis: (Focused 04)

[personal profile] newmemorywhodis 2023-02-11 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
"How do we stop the storms?"

Of course, Link's also a warrior. Which means he also has absolutely no idea how to do that. But he's also not at all unfamiliar with being strange, sometimes confusing quests with unclear solutions.

Who knows - maybe there's a mysterious puzzle somewhere. And if Link could just find it, and solve it, he could go home.
ziedrich_bearer: Gladio from FFXV (Default)

[personal profile] ziedrich_bearer 2023-02-11 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
That earned a long, deep sigh from Gladio. If he had answers...

"I'm not the science sort," he said with a shrug. "I'm trying to trust the smart people with that."
newmemorywhodis: (Neutral 14)

[personal profile] newmemorywhodis 2023-02-11 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. Smart people. Flashes of Purah and Robbie - and Zelda - flash into Link's mind. Yes, he is not unfamiliar with scientists.

"Smart people?" he says, because maybe Gladio will tell him who the smart people are. Which will make it a bit easier for Link to find them, and then ask him what he's supposed to be doing.
ziedrich_bearer: Gladio from FFXV (Default)

[personal profile] ziedrich_bearer 2023-02-12 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, we got some here. Real scientist types. Not me. I was born to be a warrior, a body guard."

And sure he studied a lot of things and he was well read, but he wasn't going to save the world with science.
newmemorywhodis: (Neutral 03)

[personal profile] newmemorywhodis 2023-02-12 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
This was the problem with being someone like Link, who preferred not to talk much and wasn't great at communicating. Sometimes, other people don't understand what you are actually asking.

"...Who are they?"
ziedrich_bearer: Gladio from FFXV (Default)

[personal profile] ziedrich_bearer 2023-02-13 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's a list that he's not fully sure of, but he's got some ideas.

"Dustin's pretty smart. And Tony. Those are the best options I think. Not that pinning them down to talk is easy."
