WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Winter in Temba and Sh'Ka
Winter has arrived on Agra 10 and with it its cold temperatures, sharp winds and, you guessed it, snow. It starts slow and gentle in Temba, but even such gentle snowfall tends to build up and over the course of a few days of constant snowfall, the city has been covered with a white, roughly knee-deep blanket - Unless someone actually remembered to keep some of the paths clear.

And it still keeps snowing. The cold is also causing some of the Shadowpaws to be drawn to the inhabited buildings of Temba in search for shelter. The further away from the library one is, the more likely it gets that they may share one's living space and bless anyone else living there with nightmares. The area around the library remains free of the shadowpaws thanks to the mothcats residing there.

Over in Sh'Ka, a similar picture has been painted. But being situated within all these tall trees paints a somewhat different picture. A more icy one. All the by now leaf-free trees are covered in a thick layer of ice, as are Sh'Ka's stone-carved buildings. The wind here is harsher than it is in Temba, which has been comparably wind-free.

Please try not to slip and hurt yourself while marveling at either city.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

The two currently crewless ships are open for anyone to step inside and have a look around, maybe even use for a nap.

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

That didn't really need an answer, so Tony only smiled back, tongue between his teeth, the impish slant either an unconscious feature or promise that there was plenty to be worried about in the skills that Tony might have levelled. It was gone in time for him to lay out, wandering hand flat on the table, "Honestly, if I told you how long ago I last played this game, we'd both have to deal with how old I am now and that's not something I'm partial to thinking about. We're not in a committed relationship, is what I'm saying, I'm willing to explore new beginnings. Brighter futures."

Oh that was a feeling Eddie knew well, though not in the same ways as the man across from him.

He leaned his elbows on the table and set his pencil down with a comfortable smile. "If I had to guess, you and me are probably going to be the only veterans going into this. We'll have to start with something to ease the newbies in." So it was good Tony was flexible. "Might lean on you a bit to help support. You good with that, dude?"

'Dude' should have been funny enough to needle the kid over, only it slipped by Tony easily as he was suddenly stricken, trying to remember the last time anyone had trusted him or his experience enough to just ask like that. Like it wasn't being tortured out of him. Sure, it was for a game, a distraction for the kids so every day here wasn't awful, but Tony did like a distraction, didn't he? Enough that he didn't even test his boundaries here--not yet, anyway. Maybe when Eddie thought he could start actually giving Tony orders. "Sure," he said, a little numbly, frenetic energy a tight coil for the first time since they had sat, up until his fingers starting dancing on the table and he found his voice again. Then he had to get some space from that awkward pause. "You're lucky if they're even from the same planet here, let alone an Earth that even has dungeons or dragons on it. Actually, I haven't asked about the dungeons, I've been assuming that one was forgone--that's a mistake, don't take any of it for granted, a perfectly normal looking guy here is going to tell you he's never heard of basements. Dragons, though, I know some people don't have those, you're going to have to explain the concept like you've never seen one in your life. Wild, right?"

Well that's just heartbreaking, damn.

"Jesus Christ man," Eddie shook his head, still blown away that the Upside Down wasn't even the tip of the iceberg in weird shit he knew about anymore. Then he paused and squinted across the table at Tony. "Wait- have like a concept or have like you have dragons...actively?"

Now they were eyeing each other, trying to asses where exactly they had diverted, Tony holding out a wan hope that maybe Eddie meant he just didn't have dragons anymore. That would have made for a much more peaceful life. Probably not, though.

"Actively," Tony answered shortly, and barely had to wait for confirmation of yet another Earth with an apparently completely unfamiliar ecosystem. With a hand splayed in frustration, like Eddie was personally responsible for this universal difference, he complained in a hiss, "How do you even play this game if you don't have dragons? There has to be a baseline, a foundation, or we could just be saying gibberish at each other, that's nothing, that's not a game."
the_freak: (Default)

[personal profile] the_freak 2023-01-29 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
All ready wide eyes widened further, and Eddie blinked. To his credit, he had accepted a LOT of weird shit being true in a very short period of time, so it was difficult to muster up much disbelief anymore. Dragons. Why not??

"Shiiit. Okay. I mean- we have them. Just, you know- as a mythical creature. I think?" Honestly, who the fuck could say any more? There was a whole other world full of monsters. Maybe there were dragons.

"How active are we talking? Are you like battling dragons on your commute?"

[personal profile] in_extremis 2023-01-29 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That was just about how Tony might describe it, only he was pretty sure 'battling' wasn't entirely the correct term for the average civilian. It did still make for a just as challenging trip when they just had to watch Iron Man do the battling while their bus hung off of a bridge that was just destroyed. After a brief hesitation, hand still out and his own eyes wide for having to explain this concept to the guy who wanted to play dragons, he settled on an emphatic, "Kind of!" What Eddie needed to know about Iron Man just yet was negligible, so Tony stuck to the more general, "There aren't that many dragons, specifically, to worry about, but when they do show up they can really ruin a whole quarter. The infrastructure damage is massive with that kind of thing. There's a word for it--gigafauna? I'm not an animal guy."
the_freak: (pic#16214605)

[personal profile] the_freak 2023-01-29 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"...that is so metal," Eddie breathed, allowing himself to picture the concept in insolation for a moment before thinking of the real word consequences.

"Wait, so like...is everything from D&D...real?"
in_extremis: (Default)

[personal profile] in_extremis 2023-01-30 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Entirely unprepared to handle this question, Tony splayed his hand again, looking very put upon to be left in charge of determining just what Eddie meant by 'real'. Yes, snakes and ladders were also both real, but they didn't typically hang out, and maybe Eddie didn't know that snakes could also be in the garden or ruining your commute, too. Obviously that stuff all existed, but for some remarkable outliers, Tony realized, making him twist his mouth to the side and weight his hand, and he still had to demand, "Do you just make up what elves and swords do, how do you get through a single session without coming to some consensus about--fucking--?" He was grasping, without the proper baseline for just how much was just fantasy to Eddie. He let his hand drop, releasing all of that pent up tension to slap against the table and admit, "Orcs aren't real, that's all Tolkien, excruciatingly boring. Anything that sucks, you can probably blame on him."
the_freak: (Default)

[personal profile] the_freak 2023-01-30 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It hadn't occurred to Eddie to specify, and he definitely didn't think hard enough to realize how broad a question that might really be.

"Jesus H. Christ, are you saying Elves are real?" Eddie started, looking at him in disbelief before Tony dropped that slight.

He might as well have slapped Eddie for how offended he looked. "You would dare-?" he pointed a finger, collecting himself for a moment and pressing a hand dramatically over his heart.

[personal profile] in_extremis 2023-01-30 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course that was what he was saying, and by that reaction, Tony really could not tell if Eddie was under the impression that swords were also a figment of some game designer's imagination. At least they were finally rescued from staring wildly at each other because Eddie's version of Dungeons & Dragons apparently relied entirely on one man inventing an entire universe and everyone else accepting it so implicitly that they could somehow talk with confidence about Inhuman politics off the cuff. Tony couldn't do that, and he had looked Black Bolt in the eye.

He shook all of that off to finally draw up out of his slouch against his seat, leaning forward onto the table with his fingers laced under his chin and expression that really didn't need him to say out loud, "What are you going to do about it?" No one had been able to effectively defend Tolkien's long winded navel gazing to Tony yet, not even Steve; he didn't expect this kid to turn the tide.
the_freak: (Default)

[personal profile] the_freak 2023-01-30 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That look made Eddie's eyes sparkle with a competitive gleam, sitting back in his seat.

"The world is full enough of hurts and mischances without wars to multiply them," he quoted with a dramatic grace, spreading his hands and smirking a little at the some what diplomatic bowing out of a debate.

[personal profile] in_extremis 2023-01-30 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
They were almost about to have fun, until Eddie ruined it by making Tony roll his eyes and shift his head into his hand, letting the other drop to drum at the table again. "So we agree, boring, indefensible. Great." That wasn't entirely unlike Steve gruffly demanding 'Don't start' and Tony taking it as a win. He knew both of them would much rather argue with him, but clearly had something more important on their mind, so he raised his eyebrows expectantly.

[personal profile] the_freak 2023-01-31 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Was he all ready back to his old ways of running? Eddie's cheek twitched, head ducking briefly and he shrugged a shoulder.

"Hey, in my world, he made all that shit up. It was impressive as hell. I guess when you have dragons flying around like it's nothing it's maybe not so metal, but the man was a freaking genius."

[personal profile] in_extremis 2023-01-31 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That was hardly a defence, making Tony's brow furrow with a frown of disappointment, giving Eddie the briefest second to think of a better one before his hand was out again to point out, "Five-year-olds make up crazier shit every time that you talk to them. And you don't even know if he did make it up, maybe he's just a multiversal traveller." If that seemed completely outlandish, that this guy would just be reporting what he saw through some kind of portal, it really shouldn't have; with a nod, Tony added, "Like you." Maybe Eddie would get back home and write the next epic about smiling, hugging aliens.

[personal profile] the_freak 2023-01-31 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Well...yeah, Eddie would have a hard time arguing that point. Even before coming here that assertion of being alone had been busted wide the fuck open.

He frowned, crossing his arms as he gave that some consideration, not liking how plausible that sounded.

"I'm better with uh...oral story telling," he dismissed with a grin, "Not so great at writing. "But I wouldn't mind folding some of this shit into my campaigns. That would be pretty epic."
in_extremis: (Default)

[personal profile] in_extremis 2023-01-31 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Tony leaned back again then, bringing his cup with him to tip as he smirked and insisted, "There should be no shame in our oral talents." Before that could settle for too long, he continued at a clip, "Maybe save that for when I get you back home, the crowd here probably won't appreciate it as much as some escapism. Or reminders of home for them. Everyone here has seen some extraordinary things, they'll tell you if you ask the right questions--if you don't mind receiving, as well."
the_freak: (yP5J97S)

[personal profile] the_freak 2023-02-01 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
He laughed, glad for the easy banter, and relaxed a little in his seat, resting an arm over the back of the booth.

"I'm flexible," Eddie returned, smirking easily, and then a vaguely more serious look. "Escapism I can provide." After all, who knew more about the need for a little escapism than the resident freak of a small town highschool?

"Kinda sounds like this place pales a little in comparison to your home life as far as extraordinary," he guessed. No dragons, for starters.
