Spring Test Drive Meme!

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

- Explore the city! There's a map here and a bit more description of some of the buildings here. Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. The hotel seems to be the most crowded, but you might want into what appears to be an abandoned storefront and find someone else scavenging or even sleeping.

- There are spaceships! That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar. They appear to have power, but only one ship will let you enter. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but it might be worth poking around the one that will...

- Do you hear a storm? A giant, power-altering storm has been ravaging part of the planet for a month. It shows ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? More information can be found  here.

- Can you hear me now? Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

- Wildcard! You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking...

[ But have you counted those legs? That's too many legs, Martin. TOO MANY LEGS!

Though aside from that... It's that optimism that makes Jon hesitate. ]

...should we.

[ Yeah. That's a pause. A pause framed with a frown. ]

Martin... The rules of our world... Don't quite apply here, remember?

[ And if he is entirely honest, he's been feeling rather useless so far. Often due to being the Archivist. ]

[personal profile] arachnafriendly 2020-06-05 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that. I'm not ignorant. [ There's a small frown on his lips. ]

It just means we'll have to do things the old fashioned way. We catalog and sort the data that we find and get our hands dirty.

[ He sighs, rubbing his face. ]

beholding_archivist: (Mighty Frown)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-06-05 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well then. You will be delighted to hear that this is what I have been doing.

[ Beat. ]

Tried to do.

[ When not busy with the more trivial like... Survival things. ]
arachnafriendly: (12)

[personal profile] arachnafriendly 2020-06-06 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure.

[ He furrows his brows, a worried expression crossing his features. ]

What can I do for you?
beholding_archivist: Do not take. Thanks. (Oh crap.)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-06-06 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
[ And Martin's worried expression is met with a surprised one. ]

F-for me? Why, I- I'm fine!

Also you just got here! I should be asking you.
arachnafriendly: (Default)

[personal profile] arachnafriendly 2020-06-06 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
You've been here a while, it seems.

[ And maybe he feels a little guilty. For pulling away. For avoiding everyone. ]
beholding_archivist: (Trying hard to ignore this mess)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-06-06 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
I have.

[ He has said as much, hasn't he...? And yet, there's a brief pause here. ]

...and things... Happened. Here. In this time.
arachnafriendly: (6)

[personal profile] arachnafriendly 2020-06-06 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I haven't had to ... deal with those experiences. So what do you need? What can I do to help you?

You don't have to shoulder it alone.
beholding_archivist: Do not take. Thanks. (Oh crap.)

Someone set up us a bomb.

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-06-06 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
M-Martin, that's not what I--

[ Oh, Martin. You have no idea. But that's exactly why he has to tell you, right? Of all the people... ]

I met someone.
arachnafriendly: (7)

[personal profile] arachnafriendly 2020-06-06 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You— oh. Oh! That’s good isn’t it?

[ that’s good, isn’t it? That was the point of all that he’s doing at the institute. Why wouldn’t he find someone? So why does it hurt so much? Martin has, unfortunately, perfected the art of not allowing his hurt to cross his face. He smile, he’s glad, he’s happy. ]

That doesn’t mean I can’t still help you. We’re friends...right?

[ Friends. Maybe? It’s not like he really has any. Maybe Peter was right.

He’s not and he knows it but he can’t help but wonder...]
beholding_archivist: (Bleh)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-06-06 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Friends, right. ]

I... suppose.

[ Isn't it an odd shift, though? The last time he spoke to you before being drawn here you send him away when he tries to reach out, and now... Now part of him feels as if he just kicked a puppy.

Jon takes a deep breath, then exhales. And finally nods. ]

Right. So let's... Let's get you to that data point first. Then some tea.

[ Because tea remains the solution to everything, right?

He steps forward again at last, reaching to put a hand on Martin's shoulder to gently nudge him in the right direction. ]
arachnafriendly: (12)

[personal profile] arachnafriendly 2020-06-06 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Data point and tea. Sounds like a good plan.

[ He takes a deep breath, offers him a smile. Yeah, this could be fine. Absolutely fine. Martin could handle that he doesn't... he's found someone else. That's fine. Deep breath. It's fine. ]

What are they like... the-- the person you met.
beholding_archivist: (I'd rather not tell)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-06-06 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Martin. MAAAR-tin! Don't ask such things. YOU are just h u r t i n g yourself. No one wants that. Though there is that light squeeze to your shoulder of a hand that has chosen to linger while directing the way down the path towards the large fountain and the glowing, floating data point near it.

Jon's answer is accompanied by a small shake of his head. ]

Infuriating.

[ Now that's a great character trait to lead, isn't it? ]

Good hands. [ Beat. ] Perpetually restless, though... Those hands. [ Another pause. ] He cares a lot. Tries to help everyone. Fix everything- And tries very hard to convince people he's an ass. But... He died to protect Tommy from Billy. And Tommy... Hates him.

[ Yepp. Just trailing off here. That's the data point. A good time to stop this rambling before it gets too embarrassing, right? ]
arachnafriendly: (2)

[personal profile] arachnafriendly 2020-06-06 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He just listens. There's a lot to take in, and he knows. He knows that this is going to kill him but-- but he can get through it. Martin can try and not let it get to him. He's glad, he's happy but it still hurts. ]

He sounds lovely. [ Martin offers before he changes the subject upon arrival to the data point. ]

Okay so, does it just automatically download or...?
beholding_archivist: (Mighty Frown)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-06-06 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Yeah. Lovely, indeed... But hey. Change of topic to floating alien sphere of information! ]

Just- Touch it. They work instantly.
arachnafriendly: (6)

[personal profile] arachnafriendly 2020-06-06 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
How many of these are around?

[ He reaches out to touch the data point, phone in hand to see how instant instantly is. ]

Is this the sort of data that you've been looking at or are there actual... oral recordings that we can find to help us understand better?
beholding_archivist: Do not take. Thanks. (Well if you say so...)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-06-06 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Jon hasn't watched another person touch any of the data points before, so it isn't with a bit of curiosity that he observes Martin approach the initial one most people touch just after arriving in the city. Martin's question is answered with a single hand lifted near Jon's head and two fingers of it lightly tapped against his own temple. ]

You won't need your phone, Martin.

[ Hopefully he won't be too surprised by the sudden influx of knowledge. ]
arachnafriendly: (11)

[personal profile] arachnafriendly 2020-06-06 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Jesus. [ He wasn't prepared, standing still as the information just pours over him. Martin slowly puts his phone away, a shakey exhale slipping from his lips before he turns to Jon. ]

Is that what you felt like back home?
beholding_archivist: (It's only a few holes in my face)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-06-06 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm.

[ The question prompts a raised brow. ]

A little. These are more organized, though.

[ Which is preferable to random pieces of knowledge that can be everything from a bread recipe to your grandfather's favorite piece of underwear. ]

Are you okay?
arachnafriendly: (7)

[personal profile] arachnafriendly 2020-06-06 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Christ, Jon. I'm sorry.

[ Just knowing like that, having knowledge just shove its way into his head was a little unnerving. But he nods. ]

I'm fine. This is... just... it's new. Not something I was expecting but I'm okay.
beholding_archivist: Do not take. Thanks. (This is all the smile you get.)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-06-06 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's okay. As long as I don't force it again, it's fine.

[ Just shaking his head on that one, then a shrug. ]

As for these data points... It's mostly this one. The others are meant for specific professions.

You can learn to pilot the space ships from one of them, actually.

[ Just a suggestion. ]
arachnafriendly: (Default)

[personal profile] arachnafriendly 2020-06-06 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously? Spaceships? [ That's amazing, actually! ] Superheroes and spaceships.

This world is sure something, huh? So what now?
beholding_archivist: (More drugs?)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-06-06 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Superheroes, spaceships and no rituals to summon any Fears.

[ Just to sum it up, really. ]

And I believe I promised you tea. Don't worry, I'm not brewing it myself.

[ This is after all the center of Temba and Eli's diner is just across that other strip of leftover street. ]
arachnafriendly: (14)

[personal profile] arachnafriendly 2020-06-06 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Brewing tea has never been your strong suit.

[ It's nice. Nice to get along with Jon like this, despite the ugly emotion that coils in his chest. He'll push through it, like he always does, and everything will be fine in the end. Right?

Right. It's a finality to that because it's not like they were..anything really. Jon never saw him that way. ]

What kind of tea did the Agrii provide? Or did someone just find the right combination of herbs?
beholding_archivist: Do not take. Thanks. (Tea break.)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-06-06 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He gives a short, partially indignant noise in response to that quite astute commentary, but doesn't add a verbal notion himself. It's true. He knows it. ]

The city has a greenhouse. I suppose some experimentation already happened - Or the agriculture data point provides those information. We... We also were sent to a different planet for a while. I know quite a few of us acquired tea there.

[ Yes, including him. He has a decent stack of alien tea stored away in the library. ]
