Spring Test Drive Meme!
Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!
This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.
A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.
If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.
So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!
Thread ideas:
- Explore the city! There's a map here and a bit more description of some of the buildings here. Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. The hotel seems to be the most crowded, but you might want into what appears to be an abandoned storefront and find someone else scavenging or even sleeping.
- There are spaceships! That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar. They appear to have power, but only one ship will let you enter. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but it might be worth poking around the one that will...
- Do you hear a storm? A giant, power-altering storm has been ravaging part of the planet for a month. It shows ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? More information can be found here.
- Can you hear me now? Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.
- Wildcard! You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking...
Storm
Now, he was attempting to find his way out of a small ravine he'd fallen into while chasing down those 'ghosts' in the low visibility of the storm. Without either of his armored suits, it had hurt quite a bit, and he was walking with a pretty pronounced limp, favoring his left leg. He also wasn't wearing anything Pidge might have known him to normally wear... not to mention the somewhat longer hair, broader shoulders, and, oh yeah, the large scar across the right side of his face.
He heard her calling her brother's name, and he hesitated, not sure what to make of it. Why would he hear Pidge calling for Matt? That didn't make any sense. Unless...
Could it be?]
Pidge? Pidge!
[But would she believe it was him? Keith wasn't sure. With a grunt, he pushed himself harder, working to try and meet up with her, only to have her come barreling out of the fog right at him. Keith gave a small, startled yelp, but couldn't move fast enough to dodge on that injured leg. She crashed into him and they both fell back in a tangle of limbs.
In typical Keith fashion, though, he instinctively wrapped his arms around her, taking the brunt of the fall even if she was in her Paladin armor and he was in regular clothes. He laid there for a second, a soft moan escaping despite his best efforts. That had hurt...]

Having been in enough fights, and training, being pulled close by this same person, battle instincts kicked in, telling her to tuck herself close so she could be relatively safe, to be the first one up as a guard. And that was exactly what she did, as soon as the landed she was using some of the momentum to spring up, hand going to her thigh...
and nothing happened. That was when she remembered that they weren't facing Galra, and that she didn't have her bayard here, leaving her feeling defenseless, again, as she had when she first noticed that.
But her mind was never still long and had already realized she'd run headlong into someone very familiar.]
Keith! Oh no! You're hurt, I didn't hurt you this bad did I? Give me a few ticks and I'll see if my gauntlet scanner is functional.
[She dropped back down to kneel next to him, ignoring the hot tears on her cheeks- even though they weren't stopping- in favor of trying to take care of her teammate. The holo screen popped up easily enough and she was moving to start a medical scan.]
What is it? I know I can't fix it out here but... I can do something, I'm sure, even if it's just keeping it from getting worse.
[She was rambling, her emotional state so frayed that she didn't have time to stop and think about individual statements before she said them.]
no subject
Hey, Pidge. Hey... Come on. Focus. [He wondered why she'd arrived in her armor. What point in time was she from? Did she remember Drift Fleet? He didn't even question the fact that she might have been crying. After all, the 'ghosts' in this storm could hit the emotions pretty hard.] It's not your fault. I fell earlier. [He'd get into that later.]
Are you okay? [She'd been calling for Matt. Just what had she seen?]
no subject
[The touch on her forearm stopped her, both movements and rambling, as she finally just... looks at him. She notices the scar on his face, the little differences... the changes... this wasn't the same Keith she was used to, or even the strange one he'd become since he'd gotten so deeply into the missions with the Blade of Marmora. It is Keith, she couldn't deny that, but he was different from what she remembered.]
W-what?! I'm fine. Just fine.
[If there was anything utterly unchanged about Pidge, it was that she tended to cover up her upset and pain with laughter and smiles. This time, more than ever before, her attempt to cover things up was shabby, her smile falling apart quickly.]
N-No.... I'm not... okay
no subject
Different points in time...
Pidge was from his past, and likely didn't remember anything from Drift Fleet.
He managed to get a hopefully reassuring, even if it was small, smile on his face.]
Hey... it's okay. This storm is causing weird things to happen. If we can find some shelter, we should be okay.
[Look at Keith... being the reassuring one. He released her arm to allow her to get up, moving to do the same even though his left leg didn't seem to like the idea.]
no subject
There was an opportunity to brush away the tears and she took it, which at least stopped them from falling more.]
It's stupid... it didn't take long to tell they weren't real... it wasn't hard to tell it wasn't you when the person ran from me, but stopped to look back...
[She recognized they were fake, and honestly what hurt the most wasn't so much that they were fake, that they existed at all... it was...]
I knew it wasn't Matt- it couldn't be, but... I wanted it to be him so bad. I didn't care that it was a fake.
no subject
Yeah. [He understood. He really did. It was the reason he was limping now. He had tried chasing down his parents. But... wait... did she just...?]
Pidge... [He hesitated.] What's the last thing you remember before waking up here?
[She seemed to have handled the changes in him so far, but he chalked that mostly up to shock over what was going on at the moment.]
no subject
[At the very least she is strong enough to be a good brace, and she doesn't mind if he puts a bit of weight on her.]
Wh- [She swallows thickly, and the tears started to return with a vengeance.] I-I found- I was too late. I found... Matt's grave.
[There is no grin, no story of the faked death... nothing... she doesn't know anything past that moment. She is trying to keep her breathing steady, the small hitches of stuttered breaths, an uneasy rhythm shows how close to all out crying she is again.]
When I woke up... I thought I might have passed out there.
no subject
But, as she spoke, it wasn't hard to pick up when she was talking about, what she was implying... Keith hadn't been there when Matt first came to the Castle, and he had missed Sam, as well. But he had heard the stories of their respective reunions later.
Part of him was honestly glad he had missed seeing Commander Holt because he would have felt awkward admitting that he had no one back on Earth to send a message to.He took a breath.]I don't know how much you want to hear, but I'm from the future... beyond that... probably almost a year. [Yes, he looked older than that, but that was a whole different story.] You probably won't remember what I tell you here should you end up back home, but... it's up to you if you want me to tell you.
[He honestly kind of hoped she did... because he hated seeing her this upset.]
no subject
Oh, time travel, yeah that explained a few things. But with that, and his words it brought a new shock of fear to her, like when she'd seen the memorial, like if she looked too deep she might find something she didn't want to know.]
A year... [What did he know that he was so tentative about telling her. Keith normally just said things, even if there was a risk they would be hurtful... or at least the Keith she remembered.]
I-I don't know how much worse... things can get... than finding Matt's grave. Better I know, if we are going to be here... I don't want you worried about saying something around me...
[She assumed they would be close enough for it to matter, but even with Keith going with the Blade of Marmora, she hadn't felt like he was really leaving the team... not even with the way it sounded. She hoped he'd at least be willing to have her around still... she wasn't sure she was okay with losing her second family too.]
no subject
Okay. [Oh, Pidge... never say it can't get worse. Keith grimaced slightly at the statement, but then shook his head.] No. It's not worse. Trust me. [They got further back into the cave, and Keith released his hold on Pidge's shoulder to lean against the cave wall for a moment.] I actually have some good news. [Which, considering his current appearance, probably sounded weird...]
no subject
Now that they are out of the weather she takes another look over the changes and... she can't help but feel there is more than one year she is missing compared to him. She already has a list of questions, but she is saving them, they can wait.]
I'll take good news. I've never turned that option down before.
[The longer they talk the less she sounds like she's about to burst into tears again.]
no subject
He smirked a little at her comment and nodded.]
What you found, on that headstone, is a clue. I don't remember the details of what you told me because you were talking too fast in the excitement to catch me up, but you're really close. You're going to find Matt. And he's alive.
[In fact, Keith looked pretty proud of her for finding Matt, and also relieved. He remembered the Holts a bit from before the Kerberos mission, especially after spending two years in the quantum abyss reliving his memories with his mom, but that was part of the whole age difference thing that he'd tell her about later.]
no subject
H-He's alive?! Matt's alive?
[Forget whatever kind of personal space Keith may or may not prefer, she is right back against him, only this time she's giving him a tight hug. There may be a bit of clinging involved as well, as too many emotions to name wash through her, but she's here... and she knows now. Even if he's right and when she goes back she won't remember... knowing now helped, so much.]
Thank you... I... I though I had lost all my hope... hearing that...
Thank you.
no subject
Oh... okay, they were hugging. At least it wasn't as bone crushing as an equivalent hug from Hunk might have been. Not that Pidge wasn't strong in her own way, but Hunk definitely had the tightest hugs in the group. He put his arms around her in return.]
Yeah. I'm glad I could tell you.
[There was more... there was so much more and not all of it was good, but they could slowly catch up on all of that later. After all, they might be stuck in the cave for a while waiting out the last part of this storm.]
You gonna be okay?
no subject
Being hugged back, felt as good as hearing that Matt was out there, waiting for her to find him. It was soothing, and comforting, and she was doing her best not to just start sobbing on him. She didn't want to push her luck on what he'd put up with... not without knowing.]
Y-yeah... I'll be okay.
Oh... uh... would you like help sitting down or something.
[She hadn't meant to catch him in a hug before he got settled down so his leg could recover from whatever he'd done to it.]
Not sure how long the storms last, that wasn't exactly clear from that info dump I got before... but...
no subject
[Keith didn't let go until he felt her shift to pull away, and then he moved his arms back to lean more against the wall of the cave. Though, sitting down would probably be better. He needed to get off that leg. He sighed.]
It's not a bad idea to sit it out... or stay put as long as we can. We should be far enough inside the cave to be away from the weird 'ghosts'.
[There was a flash of... something... across his features... upset, hurt, grief... but it was gone as he winced a little, pushing himself up from the wall so he could try and reposition himself enough to make it easier to sit.
He wouldn't turn down the help if Pidge moved in, though...]
