Spring Test Drive Meme!

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

- Explore the city! There's a map here and a bit more description of some of the buildings here. Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. The hotel seems to be the most crowded, but you might want into what appears to be an abandoned storefront and find someone else scavenging or even sleeping.

- There are spaceships! That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar. They appear to have power, but only one ship will let you enter. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but it might be worth poking around the one that will...

- Do you hear a storm? A giant, power-altering storm has been ravaging part of the planet for a month. It shows ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? More information can be found  here.

- Can you hear me now? Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

- Wildcard! You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking...

"It doesn't look like you are." Gemini observes laconically, watching the metal man(?) bang his hand against the hatch. Being able to squeeze through the smallest gap and having tried to get inside one herself that way and failed, she knows these things are locked up pretty tight.

"No." She responds, both in answer to his comment and his question. "I haven't been here long, I wouldn't know how these things work enough to own one." She shrugs a 'what can you do?' shrug and scoots herself up to sit on an old oil drum, giving Cade a friendly smile.

"I'm Gemini by the way...also I've got to ask what exactly are you?" He looks a bit like a much more sophisticated version of Robotman.

A metal brow rises at that, but Cayde seems to take this in stride, nodding. He hasn't seen another soul out here until now, and he's not seen anyone wearing Gemini's style of clothing since... Well, that's gotta be some pre-Golden Age fashion for sure.

Shh, he's not calling it dated.

"That right? Well, I've found myself in the same situation- not being here long enough, that is. Crack one'a these open and I'm sure I can work out how to operate it. Unless it's all automated or something, in which case it'd be a double-bust."

At this he eyes the ship as though it's committed some personal offense towards him, although given that none of them have opened up it seems that might just be enough. Shaking his head, the Hunter steps over towards the woman, extending a gloved hand.

"Name's Cayde. I'm an Exo. There's a fair share runnin' around the Last City and all over what's left of Earth and beyond so I dunno how you've never come across one before." Beat. "...unless...you aren't from Earth..."

"Are you planning on going somewhere?" She asks, raising an eyebrow, curious as to where he might go. Space is something she has little experience with and she intends to keep it that way.

For a moment she feels a flash of unease that he's maybe seen through her carefully presented illusion of humanity with some kind of advanced sensor, but as she's faking a heartbeat and the appropriate body temperature she pushes that paranoid worry aside. She didn't know what he was, that was what had obviously prompted the question.

"Oh no I'm from Earth alright, but going by what you've said not the one that you know." Gemini slips her hand into his, giving it a firm shake. "Doesn't exactly sound like a walk in the park either."
deal_me_in: (I did a lot of shooting that day)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-03-11 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, maybe take a spin around the planet, zip back home to let the Vanguard know this time I didn't sneak off on purpose, that sorta thing."

He'd know more if Sundance was here, and without the usual presence of his Ghost, it feels like he's missing something. Well, a lot of something. But for now, the woman called Gemini looks and sounds human enough even if she's got super old-school tastes. And if she means trouble, at least he has his gun. She doesn't have to know about his lack of bullets.

"No? How many Earths we got? If you're not from the one I am, then you should consider yourself fortunate. Only one standing city, everything else overrun by wilderness and gone to ruin, and even our bases on Venus and Mars and beyond have been abandoned for a long while. 's what happens when everything out beyond decides they don't like us."

"Assuming these things have navigational charts that can take you back to Earth." Gemini remarks evenly. She might not be from the future but she is older than she looks, with the experience to match.

"You're right, compared to that my Earth is a paradise." Although perhaps if things didn't change the description of his world would be a harbinger of what was to come.

"On my Earth the only aliens are a few Martians, whichever Green Lanterns come to visit and some really big bad guys, with similar attitudes to your aliens apparently." She shudders, the thought of them bringing up memories of her own criminal past, memories she quickly pushes down with a change of subject.

"But at least that means you're used to an environment like this?"

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-03-12 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Cayde pauses before nodding to concede that point. "True. But exploration's part of the fun."

Her confirmation of a different, better Earth makes him sigh wistfully. "My place has got pockets of Fallen tribes and nests of Hive- one's got extra appendages and the other's got some freaky swarming critters twisted with some dark power. The Fallen are only slightly better to deal with. Slightly." They still liked preferring to shoot or stab you first most of the time. Which Cayde feels better than the Hive who preferred to rip off your face.

The Exo considers where they are, thinking of what he'd seen before he'd wandered around the shipyard. "Unfortunately? Yeah. I guess I am. Broken down city, mostly abandoned? Just like home. 'course, the only difference being that I had a choice to be there. ....okay, maybe not that much, but when you become Vanguard of the Hunters you don't get to go out much anymore, not without the other Vanguard members waiting to give you an earful."
stretchy_girl: (here)

[personal profile] stretchy_girl 2020-03-14 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Unless you happen to get lost." She points out, listening curiously as Cayde talks about the world he's from. Although her own Earth is very far from perfect it still sounds like a leg up on his version, the one constant apparently being that in both worlds nasty creatures wanted to kill you. Years ago Gemini would ave fitted into that category herself, but thankfully those days were long behind her.

"Vanguard of the Hunters?" She raises a questioning eyebrow, "do you hunt those Fallen and Hive creatures?" It seemed like the most logical explanation and a moment later she follows up with another question, curiosity getting the better of her.

"Are you fully machine or do you have organic parts? Sorry if that's a little personal."
deal_me_in: (That's good right?)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-03-15 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
"You're only lost if you don't know where you're going. Now, if you just happen to take a bunch of sidetrips and do a lotta sightseeing in the process of getting back to where you aim to be? So not being lost."

Cayde does a bit of a hand-wiggle. 'Vanguard of the Hunters' had such a weird ring to it and he'd felt it the moment he'd said it. He shrugs. "Eh, I guess you can say that. It's not necessarily literal hunting, but we do a lotta scouting and sneakin' around. Personally, I like treasure hunting a bit more'n critter huntin'."

If his train of thought were a visible thing then the caboose would be crashing into the rest of it as the engine pulls the brakes with the question that Gemini brings up next. "Huh?" He's been so used to people being used to people like him that it takes him a moment to even work out what's being asked. Right. 'nother Earth.

"As far as I know? Fully machine. Mostly. I actually have no idea how Exos work but we have our own minds, and we didn't always used to be machines either."
stretchy_girl: (hmmsw)

[personal profile] stretchy_girl 2020-03-15 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"That makes a certain amount of sense." She nods, although the way that she emphasises the word 'certain' implies she doesn't entirely agree. But there is a joy to exploring that getting older maybe she's lost, physically young she might be but maybe age was changing her outlook on adventure.

Pushing that thought aside she listens to Cayde's description of the Hunters activities and adds him to the list of people she'll call if she ever needs assistance while here. So far it's a pretty short list; he's the first one on it.

"I'm sorry if the question was rude, it's just the closest person I've seen to you from my own world was a guy with a human brain inside a robot body, you made me think of him and being the first...Exo I've ever met I thought I'd best ask you now and get it out of the way."
deal_me_in: (This is my serious face)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-03-15 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Questionable as his logic sounds, Cayde however looks completely confident in his words. He takes Gemini's response as though she'd expressed no doubt at all in what he'd said, already moving on to the next subject.

"Eh, a little rude, maybe, but I guess there's no real tactful way to ask something like that. It was just kinda weird for me for a sec- I've never been asked before. Or at least I can't remember if I was."

If so, he's several centuries and six reboots in that it's probably one of those tidbits of information and memories that's gotten scrambled and lost in the transitions.

"Seriously though? A human brain? Whoa..." He scratches his hooded head as he envisions this, making a slight face. "Yeah, 's far as I know, no squishy bits here."
stretchy_girl: (talking)

[personal profile] stretchy_girl 2020-03-16 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sorry." She offers apologetically, although she's not quite sure what to make of Cayde's statement that he might not remember. Memory troubles in a robot? That's a new one even for her.

"Yeah he and another guy were the exception rather than the rule, but they're the closest things to you I'd seen before." She's watching his mannerisms out of long-held habit, noting with interest the scratching of his head even though surely it can't be itchy. Cayde's telling her lots of little things about himself with every moment and Gemini's more than a little intrigued.

"I imagine 'squishy bits' would be a disadvantage in your line of work." She knows this from experience.
deal_me_in: (I got this!)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-03-17 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
His mannerisms are certainly none too different from that of any person of flesh and blood. He shifts his weight from one leg to the other as he rests his fists at his hips, shrugging off the apology.

"Oh yeah, it'd be a lot more painful I'm sure. Not to say it ain't painful taking a shot or falling off a cliff or gettin' yourself killed. That's never fun- but then that's pretty standard for everyone." Beat. "Unless you're into that sorta thing."

Cayde glances around as though looking for something, optics shuttering in a squint as he lets out something of a sniff and a snort. Not that he breathes, but the gesture is more out of habit and expression than anything else.

"Anyway." He looks mildly annoyed at something but pushes it away, offering what appears to be a smile. "What a lousy place we're stuck in, eh?"
stretchy_girl: (hey)

sorry for the wait, I've had food poisoning

[personal profile] stretchy_girl 2020-03-24 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Those mannerisms are enough to make Gemini wonder about his origins and programming, looking at Cayde speculatively while his back is turned. Why build a robot with such humanoid mannerisms? He's a mystery and she likes solving mysteries.

"Getting killed isn't my style." She doesn't elaborate any further, instead Gemini slides off her perch and walks over to one of the ships, running her hand idly over the hull.

"It sucks, but I guess we'll have to make the best of it. How many of these have you tried?"
deal_me_in: (That's good right?)

gah! no apologies needed! hope you're feeling better!

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-03-24 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ain't much mine either, but sometimes you draw a bad hand." He sure hopes he doesn't do so right out of the gate in this position, not without Sundance watching his back.

Turning, Cayde watches as the woman starts looking over another ship. He looks at the others around, gesturing at them loosely. "All of 'em up to this point," he says, flashing another lopsided grin. "Now either it'll end up bein' the last one that we can manage to crack, or none at all." Now that'd be some rotten luck, but they can't all be locked, can they?
stretchy_girl: (thatscrazy)

thanks, on the mend I think

[personal profile] stretchy_girl 2020-03-25 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah that would fit my luck too." She grins, laughing at the realisation that some things, luck included, were a constant between worlds.

" Let's see." Slowly and deliberately she begins looking at all the ships within view. Her eyes are much better than the average human, and that piercing vision picks out something on one of the ships.

"Did you try that one over there?" She nods to a battered old freighter off to one side. It's nothing special but there's a grille next to a sealed hatch and that could be enough to get her access.
deal_me_in: (That's good right?)

Yay!

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-03-25 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
The Exo follows her glance with a thoughtful sound. "Nnnope!" he says. Jerking his head in the direction of the ship, he grins. "You thinkin' that'll be the jackpot?"

For what, he has no idea, but at this point he feels like being able to get into a ship at all counts as a fair win all around. From there...well, who knows? With a sweep of his hand he gestures for her to go first as he heads along after.
stretchy_girl: (nicehi)

[personal profile] stretchy_girl 2020-03-25 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know about jackpot but I might be able to get us inside."

Reaching the ship, she runs her hands over the grille, the gaps in it are tiny, far too small for any hand to fit through, but that's not a problem for Gemini. Her fingers and then her whole hand starts to slide though the grille and after a moment her hand touches against what feels like a lever.

"I think I've found something." Pulling it, a series of deep rumbles sound from within the ship and then the hatch begins to grind slowly open.
deal_me_in: (I got this!)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-03-25 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey, it's a step up from being outside looking in."

An optimist? Most of the time. Cayde looks on as Gemini gets a literal feel for the ship, tilting his head. Before he can offer her the knife he doesn't have, he sees what should be impossible.

"...huh."

Or maybe it's a trick of the light. Either way, it does the trick, and his optics brighten as she triggers the hatch to open. "Woohoo! Nice job."
