Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

Fall in Temba and Sh'Ka

Fall is a season that, in temperate climates like that of Temba and Sh'Ka leads to great changes in the land. Of course in both cities that change is often peeking out amid the occasional dustings or drifts of volcanic ash, but with each of the light fall rains, it's almost as if the memories of the eruption that ended the summer are being washed away. Each city, though, has its own new challenges to face.

Temba seems almost peaceful, breathing out a sigh of relief after its near destruction. Just southeast of the city one finds signs of the damage in greater evidence. The recent lava flows have taken out large stretches of vegetation, replacing them with fresh volcanic rock left bare at the surface. In some places there's even residual heat given off, especially closer to the volcano that now rests as an unending reminder of what was nearly lost. Meanwhile in the city itself the plants that would normally provide a natural abundance outside of the domain of the greenhouse seem to offer scant pickings, perhaps a result of the intense heat of the summer.

Meanwhile in Sh'Ka fall proves to be a threat, though in a new way this year than in any before. The danger derives from the Blood Vines near the train station. Apparently ash-rich soil only feeds the vampiric plant, and its spines are larger than ever as its vines lie hidden under the mounds of ash, ready for any unsuspecting prey.

Explore the city Temba!

Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Despite having been protected from being destroyed by the volcano itself and unlike Sh'Ka not having been buried in vast amopunts of ash, Temba still suffered notable damage from the earthquakes that came with the volcano's eruption. Previously restored buildings were damaged and others entirely caved in on themselves leaving them beyond any hope for restoration. The streets and paths are even worse to traverse than they used to be but for what it's worth water and electricity are still working. Most of the time.

Needless to say, exploring is more risky these days as buildings may still cave in without warning and seemingly solid roads may crack open to drop anunsuspecting wanderer into underground caves left behind by the quakes.

And yet the city can still be explored. If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Now what's happening with the hangar?!

A while ago, the ships vanished from the hangar and as of now no one can say why exactly that happened. Now your character may snotice that the map still indicates a hangar, but going there has them walk straight into- A force field? And a massive one at that. It's notably larger than the hangar building used to be and by no means translucent. Instead, your character will see a reflection of the city around. Or much rather the rubble and empty area around the location. What's going on here? Do you investigate the strange case of the missing space ships and now also missing hangar?

Try the network!

The network is back up! Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...

These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

Wildcard!

You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

Angeal Hewley || Crisis Core FFVII

[Temba] - Angeal was new to this place, wherever it was. It hadn't been easy, coming back from the Lifestream and taking a little bit of time to remember his name and who he was. He'd been having dinner with his mother in the lifestream when all of a sudden he'd found himself briskly whisked away. So now he was walking around, working on getting his bearings. But each blink of his blue eyes didn't change the charred and broken scenery. Stopping before a pile of the volcanic rocks, he shook his head and looked down in his hand at the phone, not sure what to say as someone approaches.

"This place must've seen better days."

The Deep End

He's not sure how he made it, but his wanderings somehow landed him in a bar. Angeal wasn't sure what to think of it, but he stepped inside and looked around. It seemed almost normal, as if the outside had nothing to do with it. Beer was available and the former First Class Soldier sat down with it. At the sign of someone approaching, he nodded once.

"Have a seat."

Knowing how phones worked, this tiny hand held device was a delight to see, as it was almost nostalgic. Angeal pressed buttons here and there to see if it was like the one he'd used back home. But soon enough, he figured out how to post. And while it took a moment, he took a deep breath and gave it a shot.

"Zack? Can you read me?"

Network

[crystalmaster]

"Zack?" came a surprised voice. "I'm sorry, I'm Radley."

Angeal shook his head, half relieved and half disappointed. Good, maybe the pup didn't leave the Lifestream like he had.

"It's totally fine if you're not him. But thank you for answering."

At least the thing worked, and the man had been kind enough to reach out.

Angeal took a breath.

"New to..wherever here is."

"Did you check out the info at the fountain?" Radley supposes he has. There's still so many questions even after that.

"I did. Wasn't too much help, but thanks."

He had a million questions, and the main ones he had would more than likely not have anything to do with this kind man or even this weird place.

"Yeah, it's sure not. I still don't know a lot of what's going on and I've been here over a year."

Somehow he was relieved to hear that it didn't help this other man much. But then he knew his enhanced hearing hadn't misheard even if he wanted it to.

"You said you've been here over a year?"

Deep End

Gladio nods to the stranger as he walks around the bar, grabs a bottle of red fruit drink, and pours himself a glass of it over the rocks.

"Hey. Never seen you before. Welcome."

Angeal didn't let the tall dark haired stranger out of his sight. A nod was a good start, and the man definitely had the hardened warrior look to him.

That was fine because Angeal could both respect and understand that, even in a foreign place.

Looking back down at his amber beer, the former First nodded up at the other.

"Thanks."

And he idly wondered how out of place he actually looked.

Well, that was about as much as Gladio could have expected out of Cor, and yeah, he can tell that this guy? This guy is like Cor. A warrior, strong and stoic too.

"No problem. We could use more strong arms around here. How are you against giant monsters? What weapon?"

He wants it clear he can read this much of who the man is. So they can have that understanding between fellow fighters that Gladio finds easiest.

Angeal had to smile slightly at hearing the mention of strong arms. But this fellow warrior seemed almost friendly, although not anywhere near Zack's caliber of it.

Thank Genesis' Goddess there.

"I can handle my own. Upon arriving, I found that I have a standard issued sword from home." And he'd used that against Sephiroth. The Buster sword handle had taken a blow from the silver haired elite warrior while Angeal blocked Genesis with the Shinra sword during training.

However, he didn't want to talk about the Buster sword, or his family's honour or Zack or any of that.

Still, he figured a question or two wouldn't hurt things.

"What about you?"

Swordsmen. Yeah, that scans. But built. Gladio has to wonder what a 'standard issue' sword is, because the man's built for greatswords, like him.

"Greatswords. About my size. Pretty useful things when you're taking down megafauna back home. Or a great shield, as I'm a trained protector."

Angeal took another sip of his beer and nodded as he set the mug down. He had a Greatsword once, but he gave it away and then it got given away again.

So that's right out.

"Are there places to have swords made here?" While he personally wasn't going to look for one, it was good to know if they had a place that could repair swords. The shield sounded good too, and his thoughts went to when he'd used one as that alternate form against Zack.

Shields weren't his thing normally though and he shook his head as he looked at the other warrior, tucking that particular regret away.

"A trained protector you say? Is that something like military?"

"There's Tony, but who knows when he has the time to work," Gladio says with a shrug. "That's about the only person resembling a blacksmith we have."

Which meant they were beholden to his moods. Which had seemed gloomy to Gladio lately. The man was hurting and Gladio had no means to cure it.

"Something like it, but not entirely. I mean, I was also raised to lead a military, but again, my main role was that of a bodyguard to someone important."

Someone precious. Gladio smiles to himself at that thought.

Well that name didn't ring a bell, even if Angeal found that he was disappointed that it hadn't. So Angeal just nodded. He wasn't the type to just walk up on somebody and ask for help or anything, so he'd wait.

Plus he just got here and while he wanted to get back to where he was, there wasn't much he could do about it right this second and he damn well knew it.

The former First Class went to go ask about this bodyguard appointment, but he saw that smile. That told him a little bit more about the man in front of him.

"Are they here with you? Or are they back home and waiting for you?"

Well now there was a voice Reeve had not expected to hear. And it's one he finds he needs to snatch his comm device from Mini so he could respond.

"I fear, Hewley, that so far as I am aware, Mr. Fair has never been here."

Network

Hewley.

Someone knew him and Angeal blinked a few times before replying even as relief hit him that Zack had never been here. Good he was still safely in the Lifestream then.

"Director Tuesti?"

"Yes," he agrees with a nod to himself. That was very much the right name to put to him. "I suppose it should not be shocking to find me in the middle of a mess. Was it not ever my place at work?"

"I admit that I find it more shocking to find someone that I know here in this place." That was unexpected, work messes aside. "Are we the only ones from home here or are there others?"

Information was good, and Reeve was a great person to have here even if the former First felt bad about the man being trapped here as well.

"There have, in the past, been a few people from home. Most of whom I do not doubt you would not recognize. Either before or after your time. But I have been here quite a long time."

Before or after his time. Well that was definitely one way to sum up his having no idea why he was here sort of existence.

Which of course brought up the question. "Should I even ask how long you've been here, Director?"

"Years. Far too many of them. But I have been managing the best I can."

Has he ever been any other way? Even in Angeal's day, over a decade ago from Reeve's perspective, he has managed the best he could with each day.

The man's answer tumbled over and over in his mind.

Somehow he hadn't quite expected that.

"And how have you managed in a place like this?"

Asking that question, he softly kicked at the rocks beneath his boot.
