The Homeward Path
Late into the night of the ball, things start to change rather quickly. It starts with your host disappearing in a burst of starlight and guests in the immediate area flinching back in shock. Moments later, a roar of fury can be heard and leaves the whole ballroom shaking. Worse than shaking, actually, as one can hear faintly the sound of cracking. Fearful eyes all over the gathering turn to the dome that surrounds them, tracking the slow progression of spider web thin cracks. Whispers begin to spread with concern underlying them, no matter the language. Someone has chosen to cross your powerful host.
And given the vibrations coming from wherever you have your communication device stored, there is a good theory as to who may come to shoulder the blame. Seems like one of your crewmates was succeeding in their task. Or perhaps got distracted by the other shinies that might be present.
Sticking around to figure out just which it was might not be the best decision, but you will have until the end of the party to make use of your escape device. With the way that the cracks in the dome are spreading and the frantic energy of the party may be waiting, isn't that wise. The longer you wait though, the more violent the vibrations coming from your communication device. Venidelosia clearly wants your attention.
Those that indulge her will find a message on their device stating that evacuation is necessary. Do not delay. Our pilots are ordered to return immediately, they will need to exit quickly. She is already calculating a route with some assistance.
Assistance? That would seem to indicate that there was a pilot on one of the ships to help provide a route for her. Which might be more puzzling if you yourself are one of her pilots. Either way, the call has come and it is time to go.
Making use of the charm that was provided to you by Yurebia, you return to your ship standing ankle deep in the fountain. This is actually more impressive than it seems, given the fountain is at least thigh deep on most people. But there isn't really time to figure out why you're partially floating in the water, not with the crimson lights and claxons going off all around you.
There is no time to explain. Please get to your stations as quickly as possible. We must depart before he comes for the ships, Venidelosia’s voice announces on the Peanut Party and Glitter Food alike.
Hopefully someone is keeping a count of who has come back and how quickly, because it seems that you cannot afford delays.
As a strange change, anyone who approaches the bridge will find that the door is not locked as it normally is for certain types of Expertises. In fact, it seems to just be slid open permanently. What's more, one of the pilot seats is currently taken. On the Glitter Food, this will happen to be taken by a young woman who seems mostly human, save for the fact that her skin appears to be made of silver-white crystal with a seeming halo of little orbs of light dancing around her head. On the Peanut Party the sight will be more familiar and perhaps more distressing. Is that the oldest Agrii you’ve ever seen dressed in some form of scaled hide armor with a massive sword on its back? Yeah, that really seems to be true. And good news for everyone, there are large display screens up on the bridge showing the view of the other bridge while the two beings chatter back and forth in a language you have not heard before.
More interesting still, the Communications datapoint doesn’t seem to decipher the language at all. Yet those possessing it might feel less that it doesn’t know the language so much as it feels… blocked.
“You have all arrived. This is good. We must go now,” the crystalline woman says. “Neither Kr’jelad nor I know how to input guidance into these vessels, and I assure you Estraiev will soon follow.”
Perhaps she is correct. Perhaps questions should wait until you are safe. Which of course leaves it to the pilots to navigate away from the planet as best they can. Once out of the tricky issue of orbit, it will be far easier to get the ships up to speed and moving away from the potential danger. However, the flashing lights and klaxons aren't going to cease just yet, not with the way that the ship’s sensor array pings a warning. On the Peanut Party Kr’jelad lets out a string of noises that are likely a curse, and on the Glitter Food the strange woman sighs.
“If these ships are in any way armed, I would advise that you please move to handle your weapons. It seems that we are being tracked by fighters.”
Would those who are willing head to the datapoints? Security for weapon management, Engineering for managing repairs and power distribution, Venidelosia’s voice recommends from overhead.
It just seems like it's going to be one of those days…
With time, focus and some lucky shooting, the ships will manage to win free from the system with the nearest vessels still some distance behind them. Which of course isn’t too heartening because it’s already clear that the ships are starting to catch up. Seems like whoever may have freed these two guests on your ships really put you in a hotspot here.
This is when the crystalline woman straightens in her seat, the glowing orbs that dance around her starting to whip around with greater speed.
“It would be advisable at this time to cover your ears. I am not sure what affect my song will have on those so close to me, but it seems we must be a bit more proactive in our escape.”
There was a pause for a period of a few short breaths before noise begins to fill the air. For those with their ears covered, it will be quite muffled. Sort of like listening to a distant song through water. Those who didn't heed her warning will find a sound more akin to nails on a chalkboard ringing through their ears. And for a very limited number something in the particular thrum and resonance will seem vaguely familiar. Like a song out of memory that guides one through the eddies and flows of space. Like the song of a star.
As she sings, the orbs of light around her dance and swirl faster and faster before racing forward toward the display screen. Forward and then through it without any damage, until they are points of light visible on the display itself. Nor are they alone. Racing past on the screen are a wealth of brilliant orbs, moving like rivers of light to join those that are already racing ahead. With a bit of thought it's not hard to connect those flows of light with the servers of the party. The orbs swirl together before you with speed as the woman’s song reaches a crescendo, spiraling and dancing and weaving until at last they move apart and leave a rippling surface not unlike the look of water in a massive hole between them.
Will this take us to a safe location? Venidelosia’s voice asks for you all.
The woman, still singing, merely nods.
There is just enough time to ponder whether she is telling the truth before the ships pass into the rippling portal…
And all of that was two days ago now. Once through the portal, it closed behind you, and shortly after the crystalline woman collapsed in fatigue. Or at least that's the best guess you have for why she fell. The orbs of light that she called quickly appeared on the bridge of the glitter food and wrapped themselves around her. Making out her form amongst the gathering would be nearly impossible. On the bridge of the Peanut Party, the one known as Kr’jelad sighed and shook his head before pushing up from the console he had been sitting at to move to a display of the local stars. Any attempts to draw him into conversation end up being waved off with an added burst of growling, barking language. And Venidelosia’s voice came once more, suggesting that it was perhaps best to rest for all until the woman awoke.
Now those of you that remain have once more been summoned to the Deep Ends of your ships. Perhaps you've had time to process the departures of your fellow He Rows, which Venidelosia has gone out of her way to confirm occurred due to a blip in her systems that is consistent with a He Row ‘returning home’. No one was left behind on Estariev’s world, but your numbers are far lower now. Low enough to be worrying for your continuing quest. Low enough to perhaps leave deep grief in many hearts.
Still, you have been summoned, informed that the woman has awoken and that it is time to get some answers. Once more, Venidelosia uses her holographic systems to share the image of the current guests of both bars amongst each other. The details are more crisp than before, leading to even the sigh of each sag and wrinkle in the skin of the old not-Agrii and the look of pure delight on the crystal woman’s face as she studies neon light displays.
It is only once everyone arrives that the meeting begins. It is not, though, with Venidelosia’s voice, but rather with a crystalline woman’s. She turns to regard everyone with a radiance in her face that might be a smile and might just be light reflecting off of her.
“I offer to you the deepest gratitude within my core on behalf of both myself and Master Navigator Kr’jelad of the Drovveok. Long have we both been held by Estariev, him for decades by his reckoning, and myself for more time than which I could sing of. I present myself to you as,” and here her voice goes into some strange combination of crackling static and radio white noise that no one could hope to reproduce save by perhaps recording it and playing it back. “However, I have been informed by your vessel that my name is not one that would be easily pronounced by the tongues of biological mortals. Therefore I ask to be called Cass.”
It is not a name that one might have expected, but she still smiles before seating herself lightly on a stool by the bar on the Glitter Food.
“We have been told by Venidelosia that you have some questions regarding our rescue. And in turn, there may be ways that we will be able to assist you upon your own quest. I assure you that Kr’jelad is far more interested in what little we have heard than he might indicate. His, I am given to understand, are a very stoic people, and he would not wish to display his eagerness to you. However, I believe that the acknowledgment of this will actually assist in the communication that we must go through now. What can you tell us of these people that you call the Agrii?”
And yes, true to what Cass says, it seems that the navigator perks up a little bit as the conversation starts. All things that are said to you are translated by Cass, albeit slowly, into the strangely familiar guttural and biting tones Kr’jelad used before, and when he has questions, she slowly and carefully translates them back. Little by little the picture is painted of the history of the Agrii as the He Rows have come to know it, all the while Kr’jelad grows more and more eager, more and more invested.
The conversation finally gets to a point where the navigator is clearly talking over people to throw out more and more questions. At last Cass rises and turns to look at the holographic projection of the old Drovveok, who wilts a little under her attention. Then she returns her gaze to the He Rows.
“Please forgive my companion. It seems that he spent a long time captive to Estariev after he set out upon his quest. From what he is saying it is part of the Drovveok culture to spend their elder waning years seeking something to improve their people. This is done so that their end years are not a burden, but rather still continues to give to their world. I believe the quest upon which you are on ties into the quest he set himself to before his capture, before the lengthening of his light by Estariev as something of a show piece of his collection. He mentioned something of the ‘ones who lost their way’. It is possible that these are tied to your Agrii. So it is that he begs passage to this world you speak of, one of which he has never heard, so that he might meet these people. That he might judge whether he may complete his end gifting to the Drovveok.”
And just like that, you may have an answer. A way to fulfill your bargain with the Agrii. Bring one old man back to Agra-10 so he might meet them and they may have the truth of their origins. What does that mean for you?
“He says that there is nothing that he can truly offer you in exchange for a kindness such as this, should you agree to undertake it. Therefore, I ask that you allow me to handle that for him. Venidelosia tells me that you have found yourselves far from your homes, and perhaps deep in your times. It has been implied to me that perhaps your arrival has something to do with my distant kin, that one even was used to power the Agrii ship for some time. If it truly was through the power of such as the songs of my kin that you arrived in this place and time, then it would be within mine to undo what has been done. I would need time with each of you to speak and understand the waves of your light before I could do any workings. But I would be very glad to return you to where you belong. Or at least where you wish to be. Please allow me to offer this gift and righting of a great wrong to buy passage for Kr’jelad.”
It's an offering of what is perhaps what some people here have always wanted. Way home. Way to find happiness. A way to win back your place. A path home chosen by you, even as Kr’jelad may offer a way to fulfill your bargain to the Agrii. Maybe it’s too good to be true. Maybe it’s too important to pass up.
“Please take your time to consider these offers and requests. We owe you at least this much, if not far more. I myself have been held by Estariev. With parts of myself used as servants for the passing of far too many waves. To be free of such servitude, to be given the chance to go about the continuation of my forms, it is too important to not be rewarded. But I do not doubt that we have given you much to take into your inner light and weave into yourselves. So we will remove ourselves to the spaces prepared that we might rest and make our own plans. My door shall be open at all times to you and any questions, and I shall happily serve as a translator for Kr’jelad should you need it. All I ask is that you continue your return course to Agra-10, taking what time you need to consider.”
The woman bows her head, then her full body before all of the globes of light wrap around her. There is a moment of bright light, and then she is merely gone. A small node appears on your communication device indicating which room she has taken upon the Glitter Food, as well as how to reach her for it via your communication device should it be necessary. Rk’jelad meanwhile heaves a great sigh that some might read as ‘well that was dramatic’ before rising from his seat on the Peanut Party to hobble out of the bar, using the sheathed weapon at his side as a cane in two of his wrinkled hands.
And like that you He Rows are left to yourselves in the bars to consider, and perhaps talk.
Maybe even to start to say your goodbyes, should that be the path you choose.
And from here it really does seem to be your choice…
FAQ
What’s this?
This is a goodbye. Mod Churby’s health matters have only gotten more complicated, and with the private input of the player base she made the hard decision that this will be the final official month of The Revival Project. She’ll spare you more apologies and offer you this final collection of playground options before leaving Agra-10 to you as a sandbox.
Can we talk to the NPCs?
Yes, to provide the best end for you possible, the NPCS provided here will be available for you to talk to. Mod Churby will be doing her best to check in regularly to allow them to talk to players for questions, answers, and speculation. But to ensure she gets to you, please comment below to let her know if you’re starting something.
What’s the end date?
In the simplest terms, the end date is actually today. In a bit more flexibility NPC interactions will be left open through the end of November, but they may end up being handwaved closed if another barrier comes up in Mod Churby’s life.
What can we do with this?
Well, there is clearly some nice space shooting that you can get into. That could be fun. Or reactions to the portal and the fainting of Cass. Or even discussions in the Deep End and after. Take the time to find possible decisions and maybe goodbyes for yourself and for others. Or, if it's what you prefer, just quietly nod, ask some OOC questions, and step out quietly. We'll understand no matter the path.
What are our options from here? Do we have to go home?
Players will have a few choices for each character. One is that they go back to when and where they are from with no memory and can never come back. The next is that they will go and return to where they are from with a single pin of crystal and their memories intact. This crystal pin will allow them to return to Agra-10 with Cass’s help, but there will not be the same pause in time that characters experienced before. As she said, she’s only akin to the power that was used to bring you here, she is not identical to it. There is also the option to stay on Agra-10 through the rest of your lives and live with the Agrii and Plantkin, or join the Agrii that which to join the Drovveok and thus go on more space adventures.
What if we want to leave but not go home?
For those that wish to, they will be able to go ‘home’ with others. If they do, they will not be able to return to Agra-10 or to their own home world at any point. It is a one way ticket for them. But they will remember everything they went through. Cass will explain it as something to do with the way she will have to alter their ‘light’ to move them to where they do not belong and therefore make them fit there, and how it will make them less stable to other changes.
Can we really still play with the game after this?
Yep. Whether here or elsewhere, have fun with the idea.
What about the Atroma?
If, and only if, you want to follow that particular thread let me know in a comment below and I’ll give you some information you could use to unlock the ends of that story line, as we won’t be able to get to it here.
I have other questions.
Ask them below.
You will find below a thread that allows you to give your goodbyes to the community should you so wish. For now, the game Discord will be open, but it will be closing at the start of the year. If you wish to share personal contact information. There are things like Discord, Plurk, or other methods. Feel free to use the information below to share it or just reach out to each other directly. You will still have access to the out of character community to make use of as you desire, including if you keep playing in the community as a sandbox.
For one final time, I Mod Churby would like to thank you guys for the years that you have given to us and the fun that you have brought to this game.

Questions, Comments, Etc
Re: Questions, Comments, Etc
To that end, does the Discord have to be closed? If it's deleted, all of those OOC posts, the memories of the happy fun, will all be gone. I already lost a special Discord once when the mod suddenly decided to close it, and I still pine for what was lost. Perhaps this Discord could stay open as an archive for the members to enjoy and reminiscence about? I would be willing to watch over it to that end to preserve the contents, so you wouldn't have to worry about it.
