FALL TDM (PSL is life but TDM is bae)

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

Thread ideas:

- Explore the city! There's a map here and a bit more description of some of the buildings here. Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. The hotel seems to be the most crowded, but you might want into what appears to be an abandoned storefront and find someone else scavenging or even sleeping.

- There are spaceships! That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar. They appear to have power, but only one ship will let you enter. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but it might be worth poking around the one that will...

- Do you hear a storm? A giant, power-altering storm has been ravaging part of the planet for a month. It shows ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? More information can be found here.

- Can you hear me now? Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

- Wildcard! You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking...

Yes, that is something she supposes she can understand. But to know her Emperor is here, perhaps unsafe, upsets her more. At least she is not in a hurry to return home. First she must secure the Emperor and his Consort. That is what her sister would do. It was her duty as a Kree.

“Yes, this has been a very trying week, I assure you. I only just met my sister a few days ago, and that itself has been interesting. But I shall refer to him as Emperor Teddy if he asks. He has been rather firm on using that name instead of his birth one.”

"If it helps, from what we know you'll probably go right back home to when they took you from if they send you back. So you won't lose out on time with your sister" Some people found that comforting. Some people not so much.

"Sounds like him." He smiles fondly, liking the idea of Teddy insisting on continuing to go by his name despite outside pressures.

Ah, that is comforting, and it gets Lauri to relax a little, pressing some hair back behind her hair.

“Oh, that is kind of you to say. Though I believe Carol will be too busy for her to find much time for me.

Carol. Lauri-ell. Kree. It takes Billy a moment, brow creased, because as far as he knew Carol wasn't actually Kree, right? But-

"Carol...Danvers?" he guessed, "Captain Marvel?"

Well of course Carol was Kree. She was HALF Kree. They shared a mother in Mari-ell. Though Lauri-ell was actually genetically engineered and had never known her mother.

“Yes, that would be correct. She is my older sister. She hid me on Earth for a time, and let me borrow her clothes.”

Given how big Lauri-ell was, that was CLEARLY a hard thing to do.

Is everyone on Earth secretly part alien? Billy's really starting to wonder.

He glances over her with a small smirk, gathering that wouldn't have been too easy. "There was a Carol here for a bit. She was from a different Earth though. A different part of the multi-verse."

No, there really aren’t a lot of secret aliens on Earth, except when the Skrull are around. Carol was just special.

A Carol. Damn. She had just missed her sister apparently.

“That would not make her any less my sister, would it?”

Billy smiles. "Depends how you look at it I guess. There's some pretty weird multi-verses out there. But this one seemed okay. I can't imagine a world where she's not a hero."

Oh, that comment earns the softest, most happy smile a person can have for their sibling. One of pride.

"Yes, I cannot imagine a place where she is not a hero either. No matter what that Brand lady might have suggested."

Brand? Billy frowns. "What did she say?" For all Billy's tried to avoid spoiling the future for others, he's all too eager to learn about what's coming himself.

"That is not something which is yet to be your concern, William," Lauri-ell assures him, reaching out to touch the future Prince on the shoulder. It's better not to seek what is yet to be his.

"Do you really wish to know what is coming?"

It's a comforting sort of touch. Familiar, despite having just met her.

"If it's something bad maybe I could stop it," he reasons. Though he imagines his future self must have had the same thoughts.

"There is no way you can stop the war that came upon us, William. It was something fate decreed. The fates of many were tied into it," Lauri-ell promises him, her voice full of certainty.

She just wishes she'd been able to be there, to serve her Emperor in it. Instead, well, she served him now in new ways.

War. Billy's brows crease with worry, and that need to fix gnaws at him despite her assurances. It's a lesson he's learned time and time again, but one that will take a little longer before it sticks. He can't fix everything. That's not his roll.

"...Is Teddy as amazing as I know he'll be?"

His fix will be needed in some ways, but he is yet to be the man he will need to be on that day.

"Yes, the Emperor is amazing. He united our people in ways I did not think possible, even when he was betrayed. And the wedding was beautiful too."

That heat returns to Billy's cheeks, and there's an eager look in his eye.

"You were there?" He wants to ask her SO many things, clearly biting back endless questions about a future yet to come. "Sorry. That's not- we should be focusing on you. Do you have questions about this place?"

"Yes, for the one on the flagship. It was an interesting ceremony. A combination of three cultures. It is likely there is nothing that has ever been like it before, or shall be again."

Questions about this place? Oh Prince-Consort, so MANY questions.

"What is the food situation here? Where do we reside? How can I serve you?"

That makes it sound like there's more than one. And he wants details soooooo badly, but for now he makes do with his own fantasies, smiling at the imagined future.

He laughs at her eagerness.

"Heh- um, well food is a bit of a mix bag. We have food gels, which...well it's interesting. Definitely an acquired taste. But we've also got some plants that are native to this place, and some people are pretty okay at cooking, or hunting," he answers, addressing her questions in turn.

"When we're on planet we all sort of picked our own places out of the ruins. A lot of people are in the hotel. Tommy, Teddy and I fixed up one of the old stores. But we also have assigned ships they make us go to sometimes. We don't get to choose, but there's bunks and everything we need in there."

"And uh...you don't- I don't need...serving," he dismisses with a smile, "Really."

Food gels. Lauri-ell smiles at that. Yes, she is very familiar with efficient food intake. She approved of this whole heartedly. The idea of hunting did not please her, but she would manage to ensure that she had the food she needed.

Still, she's already made her decision once she hears that the Emperor and his Consort are together. She will remain close to protect them. It's her duty.

"It is my duty, William. I am a soldier of the Alliance."

"Well- we're going to make it really difficult for you, but I can't imagine that's all that different from future us," he teases lightly. Neither of them is used to having someone looking to them for commands.

No, they are very uncomplicated rulers. Dorrek was even willing to believe that Lauri-ell had not done the thing she was accused of. She held her loyalty with a serious fire.

"I fear you underestimate the abilities of the Emperor."

"Teddy'll be all right. It's me I'm worried about." Teddy's born for this. In the literal sense, yes, but his nature too, it's...so kind, and sure, and brave. He'll be a great leader.

Ah, yes, she could understand that. But she thinks she can lay some concerns to rest.

"From my understanding, you accorded yourself well in the demands you placed upon the former Empress, and handled the battle with her well. So I am told."

"...Empress?" Billy repeats a bit numbly, eyes wide. Teddy has living family out there? Family they face off against. This future feels increasingly daunting.

"...I guess it's something I'll grow into, hopefully."

Of course Teddy has family out there. On both sides, but it wasn’t like his siblings were around. But there is a lot of complication around his grandmother, though.

“Likely,” Lauri-ell answers with a smile.

“So, are there threats here I should be aware of?”
