[EVENT] - They arrived at Dusk
It has been quiet in Temba. The heroes brought in by the Agrii have found rest and recovery from the most recent storm, went on with their lives, the restoration of the city and on new explorations.
But everyone knows this quiet is only temporary.
Starting Friday the 15th of January, early in the morning, a noise can be heard all throughout the city. It's high-pitched and oddly rhythmic and not everyone may even be picking it up. Those that do may or may not find it increasingly irritating. And yet it will remain an itch that is hard to scratch without finding its source.
The noise prevails throughout the day, then dusk comes around and that pesky sound is about to be most everyone's least worry. For along with evening breaking, the city gets invaded by spider-like [ cw for spider-monster behind link ] monsters roughly the size of a wolf, numerous and very aggressive. They enter the city from virtually any side and their only goal seems to be to viciously attack anything in sight. In fact, every animal you will encounter acts unnaturally combative. Heroes, grab your weapons, summon your powers and fend them off - If you can.
But those large bugs may not be the only problem the current residents of Temba have to deal with: Some of their own are suddenly acting uncharacteristically aggressive themselves, attacking friend and foe alike. Who can help them, and how?
The relentless assault of the crawling menaces will last through the evening and night, but come dawn, all but very few stubborn stragglers will seek shelter in caves, the runs and their basements and even in the sewer system under the city itself. Does anyone dare to follow to hunt them down at their nest? What will they find?
Note: They will return the following evening and resume their misbehavior throughout the night but hide during the day. This will keep going until the event ends.
What will everyone do?
Try to find the source of the noise?
Fight the creepily crawling invasion?
Track them down to their very nest to face what lurks there?
Help those that have lost their rational sense?
Whatever your actions will be - Good luck!
Q&A
* Can everyone hear the noise?
This is left to your discretion. If you believe your character should or shouldn't perceive these sounds for whichever reason, there is your answer.
* What characters are affected by the sound?
This is an option aimed at characters with animal traits, attributes and affinities. Absolutely optional, of course.
* What about character pets?
We're sorry to inform you that, yes, those are affected by the noise as well.
* How do we help our friends/pets?
We recommend not hitting your pets and either find a way to temporarily lock them up, cast a sleep spell on them or do your best to appeal to their love and loyalty for you to make them return to their normal selves. Same might work for your friends, but in some cases... You may have to punch them first so they try to beat you up?
* About those spiders...?
They are, as mentioned, about the size of a wolf, physically stronger than a wolf and their bite burns once it stops hurting, yet isn't venomous. Their main advantage is their number combined with their raw strength.
* You mentioned going down into the sewers. What's up with that?
It's dark down there. And moist. And something might dwell down there... [ cue mysterious boss theme music playing softly in the background ]
* Now where does that agitating noise even come from?
Well... Remember there being a blinking blue light in the North-Western part of the city? Turns out a couple of people who shall not be named found and adjusted its settings and left it a blinking orange. The noise you hear now is emitted by the tower this light sits on top of. Feel free to investigate.
* Can we turn it off?
You can go and make use of the controls if you wish to do so, yes. In what that might result down the line, no one can tell you just yet.
* How can I opt out?
They are everywhere, aren't they. Well, rest assured, as before, the building housing the replicator remains a save haven. Somehow the monsters don't go there.
* When will the event end? + AC note
Unless the tower gets deactivated before, the event is scheduled to run until January 31st, when the tower will automatically reset. But as always backtagging is great and encouraged and since this event runs through the second half of the month,all posts made during it are eligible for AC for either January or February. Note that one post can only be used for one of both months.
EDIT
!! JANUARY WILL BE A CHECK-IN ONLY MONTH AC-WISE. February resumes with regular AC, but you can use posts/threads from both January and February. !!
* Anything else?
Feel free to ask below.

...and then maybe notice the countdown having run out and hatching the brilliant plan to return to the control room? Might call in Cayde along the way.
Though the noticing may happen after a few days, since I doubt they'll be at the little shed for the whole week. We will want a few days to watch and interact with the madness before making it worse~

So it would be like
day one: their cats go crazy. Jon, Cal and Tony are together by the end of the day, but mostly they think there's some emotional problem happening, they probably don't hear the noise?
night one: the spiders attack, some kind of shenanigans where I'm going to guess the goal is to mostly get away from them. I'm doubting this is where you want Jon to get really hurt? But that could be the reason they slow down a bit.
next week: Tony would be focused on making sure everyone is safe/not going feral, boots on the ground type (hanging out with Lauri). In the meantime, Jon could be trying to figure out the whys, and land on the tower?
So week two, Jon could get them back together like 'hey uh...we did this' so they could go try to clean up their own mess. And from there, who knows!
