Welcome to September. It's time for our monthly IC announcements.

✧ OVERGROWTH ENDING ✧

On the morning of the eighth there is something in the air: a chill. At some point in the night the temperatures had dropped, and that chill lingered come the morning. Not that it was cold enough for one to see the breath before their faces, but it was still cooler. Those who might have been out on watch the night before, or who lived in the city rather than seeking shelter in the ships might have noted as well that the noises associated with Thorntooths on the prowl had started to fall away far before the normal pre-dawn hours. Any who might go seeking their grove would even find that the blooms and vines associated with the terrible creatures all withered away and died at some point. At least one reign of terror was ended.

The changes don’t end there of course, though the rest take longer to come to pass. It starts at a few points, in both cities. It starts by the greenhouses, and by the quarry and mine entrances, and continues through the places that one might have more often seen the Barrys and Funfronds active. From these places and slowly spreading outwards the growth rate of plants seems to slow, and then stop. By the morning of the 10th the wild growth speeds are gone, and by the 14th characters will no longer find any of the aberrant and mutated growth of plants. Instead things seem to settle down. Sure, it will still be up to the He Rows to finish cutting things back to their normal levels, but surely that won’t be as bad now as it had been in the past month. By the 16th things will seem to be back to normal, save for all that cleaning up that will need to be done, all the way to the borders of the cities themselves. After that, animals that once prowled Temba and Sh’Ka will begin their own returns to their normal territories. The ones that survived that is.

There has been one marked result of the intensity of the plants in August though. In Sh’Ka those seeking the Estate will find that the landscaping drones there are worse for the wear. Many are broken down, malfunctioning, or in serious need of assistance. Unfortunately it seems there is no one around to repair them, unless the kindness of He Rows are turned to them.

On the morning of the 10th the He Rows will be treated to a short, grateful message from the Agrii, thanking them from stopping the plants and being safe. But one must wonder, how much did they achieve? Well, at least there is good news that the new energy scythes won’t be going away, so hey, that could help you clean up and protect yourselves pretty well going forth.

And, for those who might go seeking, on the 12th any who seek out the small mural discovered at the Temba Memorial will find the paint there refreshed with a new coat, including on the mural pieces finally restored to it.

✧ SEPTEMBER SETTING CHANGES ✧

As is noted not only above, but in the Fall TDM, autumn is coming to Agra-10. He Rows can expect this to mean a number of things for them. For one, temperatures will begin to dip around the 8th, and this will continue on throughout the month, with hot days slowly being overtaken by a greater number of merely warm ones, and nights starting to take on a bit of a chill. This will be doubly noted in any native fauna with fleeces or furs, who will be putting on their thicker winter coats, and plenty of predatory animals will be seen outside of the cities picking up their hunting in hopes of putting on enough weight for any hibernation they might do.

As the month progresses He Rows will also be treated to the normal advancement of fall in the cities. In Temba this will mean leaves starting to change colors, flowers dying away, and those trees, bushes, and other growths prone to bearing fruit and other goodies to eat will be getting to ripe. In fact, both in the city proper and the greenhouse, one will find that those plants that are harvested for foodstuffs in the fall have a far higher bounty this season than has been seen in past years. Perhaps, in some ways, the abnormal growth has done some good, as it might be quicker for He Rows to stock up for the winter than it might otherwise be.

Sh’Ka, though, has become a bit more dangerous with the fall. He Rows who were around this time last year might remember that Sh’Ka’s great trees have a peculiar way of shedding their foliage in the fall. Instead of leaves going crisp and colorful and a delight to step on, the leaves on the most common tress of Sh’Ka have a habit of dying away to become stone-like through some heretofore unknown process. These leaves break free with unfortunate regularity and one might be lucky enough to hear a crack or a whistling as their minimal warning before a stone leaf the size of a shingle comes crashing to the ground with a loud thud. Being caught by this rain of stone leaves can be very dangerous, leading to serious injury if one is not careful. He Rows are advised to avoid walking under the large trees without some method of protecting themselves.

All in all the turning of the seasons may bring some relief to He Rows. The cooler air, the apparent abundance of natural food, and the peaceful atmosphere might just be the sort of thing they need to recover from the last two months. Though it is always wise to remember that with the advent of fall, one must look to the potential coming of winter. Who knows what it will bring.

✧ RECENT STORY SUMMARY ✧

In July Ga Re spoke of Seek Rats (secrets) which were hidden away from Agra-10. Once more the Agrii called upon their He Rows to serve as their eyes and hands, seeking out what could be found from where they believed the source of the secrets to be. This led to He Rows being taken off planet to a world they came to know as Eorzea, in search of hidden truths that might better help them solve the mysteries of how to save Agra-10. While there He Rows were given a chance to acquire more supplies for themselves, learn new crafts which might help in restoring the cities of Agra-10 if that was their goal, and to find the secrets Ga Re spoke of.

Those secrets came in the form of eight small, wooden boxes that seemed to be beautifully carved to look like twisting plants or vines or bits of trees. However, while they did seem to be boxes, no method to open them or even break into them seemed available at first. It was not until the boxes were brought to Agra-10 on the return of the He Rows in August that their secrets were uncovered. Inside each was a small piece of stone, with old painted images on them. These stones seemed to be part of something larger, a mural of sorts, and depicted parts of the history of the Agrii. But, of course, the question remained what secret they held, as these were merely incomplete fractions of a fuller image.

The return to Agra-10 was not as wonderful a homecoming as it might have been though. When they returned He Rows were met with a concerning message from Ga Re, announcing that a storm had come when the He Rows were gone, and the plants in the cities had changed. That danger had come. That He Rows needed to be careful. With this Ga Re unlocked access to another tool for the He Rows, dangerous energy scythes accessible through the greenhouses. It was up to the He Rows to try and determine what was going on and how to stop the encroaching plants that, according to Ga Re, was only happening in the cities. Unfortunately this was no small ask, as plants had mutated in dangerous ways, leading to them acting aggressively toward the He Rows, with the most dangerous being the Thorntooths that prowled the cities at night, attacking any unwary travelers.

Despite this risk, some new clues to the mystery seemed to be uncovered during the month of trouble. For one thing, He Rows upon arrival caught sight of the Funfronds in Temba, little mushroom-like creatures previously referenced in the Dick Shun Airy that had not much interacted with He Rows before. These creatures seemed to have a way to calm the angry plants, and throughout the month He Rows may have seen them around, and Barrys in Sh’Ka, interacting with local plants. Some He Rows even came to start interacting with these illusive creatures, and from them secrets might still be found for closer inspection of the mural pieces showed tiny figures that seemed to represent the plant peoples, and perhaps other still, as existing around the edges of the mural pieces.

In addition, some He Rows, guided by Felwinter’s previous explorations of the Temba Memorial, discovered the original location of the mural that their stone pieces were a part of. This mural might yet reveal more of the history of the cities and the Agrii. Only time and perhaps further investigation may tell. The images, though, leave a lot to be considered. Finally, there might be something worth looking into that was brought up by Tommy Shepherd. The way the plants changed in the last month seemed to possibly be a sort of change only seen in the cities, though previously to a lesser degree. What does it mean that the plants in the cities, but not the greenhouses, have been weird before without the monitoring of the Agricultural Expertise people monitoring them? And why isn’t this true beyond the limits of the cities? There are so may questions to be asked, and answers to be sought. For those who want to seek them that is.
