Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

Spring in Temba and Sh'Ka

Unlike last year, spring doesn't leave the He-Rows dealing with piles of pink glitter. The vast amounts of snow are still present to some degree here and there where the snow has been piled up especially high after the recent blizzard. But life has been returning to both cities with grass and flowers growing more vigorously in Temba while in Sh'Ka the especially tall trees are sprouting their leaves.

The native animals of both cities become more active again as well and especially the birbs residing around Temba's beach produce a noise that can be picked up even in certain parts of the city. Would it be wise to disturb them?

And while the weather has clearly turned warmer and the sun shows notably more presence, spring remains comparably wet. Strong showers of sudden rain are very likely to surprise an exploring He Row when they least expect them.

Explore ~~the city~~ Temba!

Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working and power has been restored to be reliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has proven to be home to verious harmful creatures; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!

That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

Try the network!

Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...

These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

Wildcard!

You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

"...Mm?" Eddie blinks, suddenly remembering he's supposed to be looking for clothes and not-

He coughs and grabs the first thing he spots, tossing it towards Steve, a band tee he used some of his replicator credits to make since he wants to see him in the metal clothes and not what he's scrounged up from the Agrii.

"They actually gave me some as a gift," he informs him with a small grin, "But I might've tried my hand at it. Harder than it looks."

He throws some pants and things at Steve as well, and strips of his own shirt. His scars are much further along in the healing process than Steve's, and it feels...strange, thinking how recent this all is for Harrington.

It's Steve's turn to get distracted but it's not (likely) for the same reason. Or at least not entirely.

He's just about pulled the shirt on when Eddie's peeling his off. And those scars. Steve's eyes are glued to them and the way they mirror his own. Those had been the injuries that killed Eddie back in Hawkins. Here they were nothing but scars. Healed over and probably not even painful anymore. Like it hadn't even been serious.

Steve steps forward a second, caught by the spiral his head is in with those thoughts, but stops. He glances up at Eddie, intending to smile an laugh it off. But instead he just swallows over the dryness in his mouth.

"You look...good. They healed you real well here, huh? Back home you..." He doesn't finish that. Just shakes his head. "But they fixed you, here. It was fixable."

"...yeah, uh-" Eddie laughs, gaze ducking momentarily, but he tries to play it off, shifting to show the scars off for a moment, "They're pretty metal now, huh?" He's missing a fucking nipple, but his guts are all on the inside and he's...alive, so...they did a pretty good job. "They uh...they have this magic guy here in the hospital. Not a ton of those back home I guess." Though it occurs to Eddie after he says it that there was probably no way to even him out of the Upside Down. It's not a thought he wants to dwell on.

"We match."

Steve knows that there is no reason to feel guilty. Eddie needed fucking magic to save his life. But El might have maybe done something. She'd saved Max after all, right? Maybe... Maybe if he'd gotten the body out. If he'd at least brought Eddie home for a fucking funeral...

He tries to shake the grief and self-disappointment off but it's clinging like a chill. When Eddie talks, he puts on a small, melancholy smile. It's the best he can manage at the moment.

"I don't know, man. I have both of my nipples. You're down by 50%. Close..."

Eddie doesn't even know half the shit that went down after he's taken, but he doesn't need to to know no one needed to be risking their lives trying to bring him or his body back to Hawkins.

"Shut uuup," he laughs, but it's a little strained by that haunted look Steve can't quite manage to hide. He pulls on a shirt and fixes Steve with a more serious look.

"Don't man...seriously. It's...I'm good," he tries to assure.

Steve nods, but the look on his face doesn't entirely change. He turns around to change his pants and dry his legs off. As he does so, he talks to the wall. It's surprisingly easier to think of it that way instead of talking to Eddie, right now.

"You're... You're not though, you know? It's been a week for me with you being super not good." He pulls the new, dry pants up and takes a bit too long to close them up. "I know we couldn't do anything. But... I don't know, dude. You were supposed to make it out. You were supposed to graduate and get the fuck out of Hawkins. I was supposed..."

He exhales, finally turns around, looking at the towel in his hands.

"I'm just sorry, man. I'm just really sorry..."

Eddie takes the hint to turn away, both to offer Harrington privacy to change, but also...to speak. He pushes his own wet jeans off with a frown as he listens, and finds himself nodding even though Steve obviously can't see. He tugs new pants on as he tries to work out what he can possibly say when they both know the outcome. If he's honest, as much as he's assumed there was no hope of making it much longer than the moment he was abducted, some stupid part of him apparently still wanted to hold onto that sliver of none existent hope that he made it out of there somehow. That maybe he was just being dramatic, and it only felt like he was dying. The certainty of it now isn't surprising, but it does...ache in a way he's surprised by.

"...I'm sorry," he echoes finally, turning and like wise not quite able to meet Steve's eye. "Pretty sure that chapter was closed even before I went and decided to be an idiot, but...I didn't want to hurt any of you guys..."

Steve looks up finally and then can't look away.

"I should have been with you guys. I...I think about it all the time. If I could do it over again, it should have been me with you and Dustin. Or me with you and Dustin not in the fucking Upside Down at all. But I should have stuck with you. Both of you weren't gonna be able to fight them all off if things went south. Not that I would have either but it could have given us more time. Just...maybe..."

His voice breaks on the last word and he clears his throat fast to try and cover it up. It takes a second for him to speak again.

"I won't fail you again, if shit goes down here. Alright? I swear."

"Nah-" Eddie tries to argue, shaking his head, but quieting again to let Steve finish.

He looks genuinely unsure how to take that show of emotion coming from Harrington. For him?? His throat feels tight, and he blinks, trying to shake it off again stubbornly.

"You were bringing the fight to Vecna, man... You were where you were supposed to be."

Damnit, he's not going to fucking cry. Nope. He closes his eyes for a second to try and force them to behave, and gives a flustered laugh.

"I'm the one that fucked up. You didn't fail anyone."

Eddie's eyes are getting shiny and Steve moves forward without really even knowing he is going to do it. He's still holding the towel and hands it over to Eddie so he can use it as a tissue or a mask, depending on what he wants. Steve would fully understand the want for either.

"You saved Dustin's life. I said it before but...you did. Those bats would have torn him apart and God knows who else. You didn't..." He exhales in a burst. "I know earlier I was angry, but you didn't fuck up. You were...you were so fucking brave, Eddie. I hate that you had to do it, but you had an impossible choice and you chose the most incredibly brave option.

"You're a hero."

Eddie can't even summon the energy to be more than partially embarrassed in that moment, cheeks pink as he presses his face into the towel and makes a vague cover like he's drying his hair or some shit when he finally peers out of it again.

"...Pretty sure someone told me not to be one of those," he notes with a small smile.

Steve sees that little smile as Eddie peeks like they're playing a game. He smiles back, unable to resist. And the first thought that comes to his head is 'Cute...'. Followed immediately by, 'What?' before he decides to think about it later. Or never. Never also worked.

"Yeah. But he should have known you would be a rebel about that. It's kind of your shtick if I remember the lunchtime sermons you put on."

"Oh you remember those, do you?" Eddie lets the towel fall away so he can beam playfully. "Didn't think I even registered on your radar back then."

This is easier. Teasing smiles. Who was worked up? Not him?

Steve rolls his eyes but it's with a smile and a faint pink tint to his cheeks.

"Munson, you were unable to be ignored. Jumping up on tables and talking about whatever hit you that day? I think a few of them actually taught me something. Mostly that you're insane, but you know..."

"Heh," Eddie looks a little proud to hear that, and he finds himself wanting to make that smile (and flush) grow, casually crossing his arms.

"Tsk, King Steve, hanging on my every word. Who would've guessed?" he teases, catching his tongue between his teeth. "You know, I kind of missed having you around this last year. You were always a better audience than Carver."

He rolls his eyes, cheeks getting more red by the second. "Don't call me that, man. I hate that name. That was asshole-Steve who needed to be taken down a few." Steve gives Eddie a little shove on those crossed arms, just trying to push him off balance a little.

"Carver was always so pissed, dude. You have no idea. He was a freshman idiot and saying we should go drag you down. It's no wonder he was a psycho. Just a matter of time. I'm a little surprised he didn't join Hargrove's group when he was running things."

The grin he gets in return says that's exactly why Eddie called him that, but he nods despite his little laugh as Steve pushes him. He's not King Steve anymore. Just Steve. Sometimes Surprisingly Badass Steve.

"Mm, well...'Hunt the Freak's' always good way to cement yourself with the cool kids," Eddie says with a shrug. And Carver was certainly concerned with his image for the moment he set foot in that place. "I think Hargrove intimidated him a bit too much. Jason likes to pretend he keeps his nose clean."

"He better not show up around here. I am glad to never see that asshole again." Which, yeah. No one deserves to die. But that guy hurt his kids. Wanted to kill Eddie. Steve isn't mourning him anytime soon.

"Enough about him. C'mon, you finally got me in your crazy metal clothes and no one is bleeding." He spreads his arms wide and turns in a slow circle. "How am I looking, huh? Everything you dreamed of when you had hopes of burning my wardrobe?"

Eddie still hasn't put together that Carver's gone gone, and he nods his agreement. The last thing he needs is Jason showing up and convincing a whole new community he's some kind of cult leader/murderer.

"Let's see-" Eddie prompts, gesturing for Steve to turn just as he does and grinning widely. He gives an appreciative nod. "...s'not bad. Here, add these-" He pulls off a few of his rings and hands them over to help polish the look. "...it suits you, Steve. You look good."

Steve grins and puts the rings on. It's odd having them still skin-warm and on his own hand. He looks at them like someone admiring their engagement ring, fingers stretched out and arm extended forward. They're nice, really. Little snug on some fingers but they're nice. He gives another little turn.

"I am gonna need to get some of my clothes out here so we can dress up as each other for Halloween. I bet you'd look good all prep-ed up yourself."

Steve can't really imagine it, honestly. But it would be nothing if not funny.

"Here. I can't wear your rings, man. I feel like you're naked without em."

It makes Eddie wish he had more to dress Steve up in, smiling too wide as he watches Steve admire the rings.

He snorts softly and makes a face, but it's not a refusal. "You'll have to save up your replicator uses if you want to dress me. They have this machine... it's like magic. It'll make pretty much whatever you want. But you only get 5 goes a month. I've been trading my talents for more."

He slides the rings back into place and rubs at them with a fond smile. "Better? Less naked?"

"Yeah. I can actually look at you again." Steve smiles and goes to pull the towel back so he could ruffle up his poor hair a bit more. God, this was a disaster. He was going to look like a drowned rat. But at least he could maybe get some good haircare from this magic replicator thing. Not that it helps him now.

"Your talents, huh? Which ones are those? You have a lot, Munson."

Eddie plants himself on his makeshift bed, lounging comfortably. He's probably still a bit too damp to be do that, but it's not like it's going to ruin anything he's managed to scrounge together. He watches Steve with a smile.

"I'm sorry, can you repeat that?" he prompts with a grin, wanting to savor that moment. "A lot? Which ones do you think I'm trading, mm?" he asks with a smirk.

Steve smiles but rolls his eyes. "I am pretty sure you don't have any drugs here so that's out. And I don't know if you need to hotwire anything. Passionate lectures are fun but I doubt people are going to be paying you for it. So... Music? Or... Dragon Mastering?"

"Is dealing really a talent?" he asks, but...yeah, he does do it pretty well.

He laughs and nods his head. "Haven't figured out how to monetize the dungeon mastering yet, so it's down to me and my sweetheart to provide."
