SPRING TEST DRIVE MEME

SPRING TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Spring in Temba and Sh'Ka
Unlike last year, spring doesn't leave the He-Rows dealing with piles of pink glitter. The vast amounts of snow are still present to some degree here and there where the snow has been piled up especially high after the recent blizzard. But life has been returning to both cities with grass and flowers growing more vigorously in Temba while in Sh'Ka the especially tall trees are sprouting their leaves.

The native animals of both cities become more active again as well and especially the birbs residing around Temba's beach produce a noise that can be picked up even in certain parts of the city. Would it be wise to disturb them?

And while the weather has clearly turned warmer and the sun shows notably more presence, spring remains comparably wet. Strong showers of sudden rain are very likely to surprise an exploring He Row when they least expect them.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working and power has been restored to be reliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has proven to be home to verious harmful creatures; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

[ A-arrival redux? ]

It would be an understatement to say that Peter was a little surprised to wake up near the fountain of all places. Originally, he hadn't wanted to wake up and tried to just curl up and will the suddenly much cooler air away but the longer he has for his brain to start working again he realizes there's something cold and wet seeping into his jeans and shirt and that more than anything has him sitting up and letting out sharp noise when he realizes where he is.

"What the-!?" He cuts himself off and hops to his feet, frowning at the state his clothes are now in. They might have been clean before but now they're soaked with melty snow and dirt.

Fantastic.

He sucks in a breath and lets it back out in a huff. What is he doing out here anyway? Besides freezing to death. He grabs the attention of the next person he sees. "Hey uh-this is kinda a weird question but- any idea why I would have fallen asleep out here?"

[ Equipment Test - Sitting in the Diner ]

So he's been gone awhile. There's an existential crisis he needs to have about that but he can focus on that later. Right now, his priority is to check to make sure everything works still-mainly his web shooters.

They seem to be a little jammed and he pokes at them a little, applying a little extra force. Bad idea. The webs come loose and he gets a face full of his own webbing. He lets out a startled noise and then quickly tries to pry the webs off.

Maybe he'll get lucky and no one saw that.

Max Mayfield | Strangers Things (Spoilers for S4 ahead!)

[personal profile] beyourzoomer 2023-03-27 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Arrival]

She wakes up slowly.

The first thing that registers is that the vines binding her hands and feet and arms and legs are gone. The second thing is that she's on the cold ground. Distantly she recalls El screaming her name as Vecna's hand hovered over her head, recalls the absolute terror she'd felt at the realization that she was about to die and now --

For a moment, she's afraid to open her eyes. Afraid of what she's going to see.

Is she dead? Is El dead?

A shudder passes through her and she steels her nerves, lifting her head a little and holding her breath. The strange red-hue of the Upside Down is gone, the floating particles gone. But she's not in the attic of the Creel mansion, either. There's a broken fountain beside her and she sits up slowly, guarded as she looks around, trying to piece it all together.

There are huge, towering buildings, but there's no signs of life anywhere.

"Oh God, what now?" she mutters, trying to ignore the fear that's thrumming through her veins. She doesn't see anyone else. Lucas isn't around. El isn't, either. And no sign of Vecna -- and for that last one she's grateful.

And that's when she spots the orb. It's glowing, floating in the air and -- and she's moving toward it, unable to look away. The rational part of her brain is telling her to get the hell away from it, but she can't quite stop herself as she reaches out and presses the palm of her hand to it.

Moments later, she stands in wide-eyed shock, slowly spinning in a circle to take in the surroundings of Agra 10.

"What the hell," she whispers. Seriously. What the hell.

[Network]

Hello? Is anyone here? Can anyone hear me?

El?

[There be Storms]

There's a flash of lightning in the distance and she flinches involuntarily. Like the orb, she finds herself drawn to it even though she knows she shouldn't be. But the compulsion to move toward it isn't nearly as strong this time, and Max ducks into a building even as the rain starts to pound outside, the wind picking up and battering against the building she's taken refuge in.

She finds herself staring out the window, transfixed by it. And that's when she spots him, out in it.

"Billy?" she whispers, lifting a hand to her mouth.

Spring in Temba

This is such a strange place to end up in. It's intimidating and concerning, and Chloe doesn't like what she learned near the Fountain at all. But it does look beautiful with Spring coming on, and Chloe's darling Pokemon is utterly delighted! She runs ahead and makes happy exclamations as she looks at everything. It's all a new adventure to her, not concerning at all.

"Eevee!" Chloe exclaims as she hurries after her beloved friend. "Don't go too far ahead! We don't know what's out here!"

"Eevee-vee-vee-vee!" Eevee squeals, dancing ahead to see all the pretty flowers.

Network

The video comes on showing an awkward ten-year-old girl with red-violet hair in a long braid. A brown and cream animal that looks like a cross between a fox and a rabbit and maybe a cat is standing happily on her shoulder.

"Um ... hello.... My name is Chloe Cerise and this is Eevee. We're from Vermilion City in the Kanto region ... but I don't suppose that means anything to anybody here. From what I just heard, I don't think we're on the same planet anymore. We were on a Pokemon research mission and my family's going to be worried if we don't check in soon. Can I call them somehow? And how long is this fixing the world thing going to take?! We really need to get back...."

"Vee!" says the animal.

[ Arrival ]

Whether it's his own impulsivity or some unseen force urging him on, he can't say, but Sonic sure did just reach out and touch the shiny glowing thing pretty much as soon as he woke up by the fountain. Shiny things are usually really important, right? Who wouldn't grab it?

But then it downloads like an entire encyclopedia's worth of weird alien information right into his brain, and suddenly he's regretting getting out of bed this morning. Just a little bit, though. Weird situations like this are unfortunately not too out of the ordinary for the hedgehog, which is why his reaction is less shock and disbelief, and more staring into the middle distance and wondering just why his life keeps taking all these wild twists and turns on him.

"...Cool. That just happened," he says, heaving an exaggerated sigh and crossing his arms, "sure would be great if weird things would stop happening to my brain."

At least this wasn't quite as invasive and creepy as the last time someone had decided that getting all up in his brain was a good idea. That whole Mecha Sonic situation hadn't been too complicated in the end though, being on some post apocalyptic alien world - by himself - was sure to be a whole different story.

Anyway. He gets over his annoyance at his current predicament pretty quickly, accepts this new bizarre twist in his already unpredictable life with a shrug, and starts stretching his legs as if this is the most normal scenario to just go for a jog in.

"Welp, this place isn't gonna explore itself. Better get to it-- am I already talking to myself? Ugh, that's not a good sign."

[ Exploring Temba ]

"Explore" for Sonic mostly means "tear ass around the city fast as shit until you memorize all the roads". A process that, for Sonic, takes roughly ten minutes. Temba isn't exactly the biggest city he's ever been to, which is a bit of a bummer, but it just means he'll have to actually take his time and really explore the buildings if he wants to keep himself entertained.

Cuz, y'know, entertainment. That's what's important here.

Naturally he does of course run up and down the tallest buildings he can find to get a better view of the city, maybe chill on the roof for a while because that's a totally normal thing to do. Eventually he does ease back on being a weird little speed gremlin and actually walk into places to check out whatever's inside. Or whoever's inside. He's not picky.

(And neither am I, feel free to have him roll up into whatever location you like. Little dude's all over the place.)

Boba Fett | Star Wars Legends

[personal profile] myownprice 2023-04-16 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)

i. arrival

[ The last thing Boba Fett remembers, he was trying to outrun an explosion currently in the process of consuming the burnt-out hull of a grounded ship. As such, he feels rather lucky to be waking up at all. If he'd been knocked out under such circumstances and on Tatooine of all places, there's a lot besides the explosion that could've killed him in the aftermath. For example, the bounty hunter who had caused said explosion. Fortunately, Durge doesn't seem to be here...

Wherever here is.

He's definitely not on Tatooine anymore. There's snow, for one thing, a virtually impossible sight on the desert planet. How had he gotten here? And more importantly, how will he get back? He feels a cold sense of dread prickling in his throat. Jabba is waiting for him. Jabba is waiting for him and he'd—wait. Where's the hat? Boba looks around, brow furrowed under the visor of his father's helmet. He knows he'd had it. He'd snatched it from Libkath just before the loathsome slaver had been engulfed by the explosion—and he needs it to prove to Jabba that the Neimoidian really is dead.

He scrambles to his feet, eyes casting about—and that's when he sees it. Not the hat, but a softly glowing orb of light just a few meters away. Calling. Beckoning...

Unthinking, Boba moves closer, hand extended—and then, just as thoughtlessly, makes contact.

A moment later and he rips his hand away, eyes wide. ]

No. [ The single syllable comes out incredulous and angry, and he stares at the orb like he's talking to it. ] You can't—I won't work for you! Send me back!

[ Nothing to see here. Just a short-statured figure wearing a blue cadet's uniform and a silver Mandalorian battle helmet yelling at the Data Point, his voice very clearly that of a child. ]

ii. hangar

Of course, while exploring the city (and doing his best to stay out of sight), the location that catches Boba's interest the most is the hangar. In fact, he's completely mesmerized by it. It's full of ships he's never seen before, which would be exciting all on its own but most importantly—one of these ships might be his way back to Tatooine.

Which is why one might find him surreptitiously poking at consoles and entry points, trying to figure out what he might need to get inside. Or, perhaps, he's already found a ship that's opened its doors to him and is now in the cockpit, preparing for take off. Someone might want to stop him before he breaks something, or worse—succeeds.

iii. wildcard

{ Boba will be out exploring Temba and generally seeming very suspicious as he attempts to avoid detection by any other characters, so feel free to have yours encounter him anywhere within the city! }

exploring | sudden rain
New world? Fine. Multiverse is old news to her by now. So she starts doing one of the things she does best: Higher vantage point. Using her gauntlets on her wrist, she pulls herself up a building to get a better idea of where things are.

Her attention is first drawn to a fountain in the middle of this city, but as she turns more to her side, she sees what looks to be a giant hole in the ground, and that? Is definitely more interesting. As she's deciding to go check that out next, wind picks up and before she knows it, rain is threatening to soak her to the bone, and she'd rather not be out in this. She picks up to a sprint, to get off the roof as fast as she can, but as she's about to leap off the roof to repel back down, she slips on a puddle and her fall is much less graceful than she hoped. She has less time than she wanted to shoot her line back out, but she does it — her first try doesn't quite catch, but her second does. With less traction, she winds up slamming into the side of the building, and half faceplants in a mud puddle on the ground when she finally does land. Her red hair is half stained with mud.

Not everything works out for a super spy and assassin. She rolls over onto her knees so she can push herself and make sure no one saw that.

Too late.

ships | shower time
She finds her ship, and squelches her way into it. It's 100% shower time to get the mud off. What a way to make an entrance for her ship-mates.

“Hi.” She greets one. “It's wet out there. Do we have inflatable boats in here or no?” It's her classic dry sarcasm.

Steve Harrington | Stranger Things

[personal profile] farrahfawcetts 2023-04-28 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Spring Time]

Steve, unfortunately, is not all that surprised at finding himself in another insane situation. After waking up at the fountain and getting shit blasted into his brain, he just sort of rolls with it. He's got his bat covered in nails resting on his shoulder and that is enough to make him feel like he will probably not die as he walks around. At the very least none of the new animals have faces like a flower of death. He'll take that as a win.

Steve has only walked for about five minutes, trying to see if he can find someone, when he startles at something hitting his head. He whips around, looking up to see if something had fallen. And something had:

Rain.

It takes seconds from then for the sky to open up and sheets of water to pour down. Even running for cover, Steve is soaked almost immediately, hair plastered to his face and head. And no Fabrege shampoo or Farrah Fawcett hairspray to be found.

"You've gotta be kidding me. Couldn't even get an hour?"

[Beach]

It's been too long since he's seen the ocean. And sure, this isn't one he's familiar with and the lobsters are apparently angry assholes, but it is still amazing to be on a beach.
He closes his eyes and just enjoys the sound of the water and the feel of the breeze. Soaks up the peace of being close to a body of water without a demon hellmouth at the bottom of it.

Or he tries to, but the damn birbs are making it difficult.

Steve opens his eyes and lets out a long sigh before just flopping to the ground so he can sit. "Just keep those green things away from me and it's fine," he offers as a deal to the birbs. "But if you feel like shutting up, don't let me stop you..."

He groans a little. "Rather be listening to Dustin's crap than this..."

Africa by Toto
Fuck. Fuck, he didn't want to be out here in the rain. It came down in hard sheets, soaking him from head to boot, plastering those pretty curls to his head. The humidity of it brought black flashes of a memory. A strange one.

Locked in a suana. Max at the window, asking what he'd done. Knowing how many people he killed under the control of that... that thing. Crying and stating it wasn't his fault--

He sucks in a breath before managing to get shelter in... what was this? A hotel lobby? Billy looks around, tongue darting out to lick his lips.

Billy wants a cigarette.

"Fuck!" he yells to the empty lobby, glaring at the rain outside.

California Dreamin by The Mamas and The Papas
As soon as he found the beach, the boots came off. It was California, didn't have her surf beckoning him and he didn't have a surfboard, but it was sand between his toes, the water gliding over his skin. It was familiar.

It was like home.

A home lost too fucking long ago that was barely a memory at this point. A woman with curls like him. The board under his arm.

The blond wades in and doesn't bother rolling up his jeans. They dampen and hold water but he doesn't care, even as he stands out in it up to his knees. Maybe this place wouldn't be so bad if it had this.

Mufasa / The Lion King(1994)

[ a ] fountain

[ After inexplicably touching the orb for reasons beyond himself, he stood in shock for a moment, staring through everything in front of him. It took only a few moments for him to come back to his senses though, and he did so with a vigorous shake of his mane and roll of his shoulders. Clearing his throat, he lifted his paw to wiggle his toes and flex his claws, inspecting them for damage, but yet, he was completely fine.

He just had an unfortunate headache coming on.

His brows knitted and he turned back towards the fountain, circling it briefly to inspect the clear waters. He'd rather be able to jump out and defend himself than scramble and shuffle to get half of himself out should he have to quickly turn and protect his rear in this odd place, hence, he hopped right into the waters and crouched to lap at the cool waters. Even so much as dipping his face in a bit and giving it a shake to get the excess off.

In this desolate place, the sounds were foreign and strange as the scents on the air. Some of them had quieted as he started to move around, and above that passive din, he could hear the rhythm of footsteps. An odd rhythm, but a distinct one none the less, that made him raise his head high and square his shoulders. He'd watch whomever was approaching with a slow sway of his tail and hold his ground, but so long as their body language read passive, he would make no move towards them.

In fact, so long as there were no signs of aggression, he would cant his head and address them. When he did speak, his voice was solid and carried well. ]
If I'm encroaching upon your territory, I give my sincerest apologies. My name is Mufasa, and I've found myself here against my will, and only request safe passage.

[ a1 ] fountain plaza
[ Alternatively, if enough people were around, one of them would invariably sound an alarm call to a lion stalking around, as he'd very much expect.

It wouldn't be pleasant with the mild headache going on behind his eyes, but it wasn't anything he was unused to. He would still be on quite high alert, though: his ears were pricked, his eyes were bouncing around his surroundings, and he was ready to react quickly. If he was approached while people were very much trying to put space between them and an apex predator, Mufasa would pause and raise his brows. They would be given due attention as someone that may be in need, as smaller species didn't idly walk up to a lion in the Pride Lands, even if he was their king. ]

Is everything alright? [ His question was firm and gentle. Stalwart and certain of itself, despite the situation Mufasa found himself in. Here, he was no king, but he wouldn't forget his decency and respect just because he was in a strange land. He especially wouldn't forget it in a strange land. ]

[ b ] diner

[ A lion strolling through the town was nothing to bat an eye at. Luckily Mufasa wasn't being so brazen about it, stuck in a foreign place as he was, and was instead skulking around. While he was quite good at quietly stalking around, minding scents and sounds, this would be easier if the vegetation wasn't all green and the only cover wasn't strange smooth rocks(debris, small vegetation, fall panels or empty benches etc.) or megalithic stone trees(buildings), but beggars couldn't be choosers.

His main goal was to not set off any alarm calls as he followed the scent of smoke and meat.

Smoke was typically a bad thing, but fire wouldn't spread through this vegetation with how moist the ground was an how green the flora. It was a wonder how it even started, but typical to most felines, he couldn't help but be drawn to the warmth. Especially since he was more suited to the heat of the African Savanna, not this temperate climate with its last winter winds blowing through. He wanted food, and he wanted to warm up somewhere safe.

Unfortunately the warmth seemed to be inside the stone structure.

Mufasa would do his best to carefully circle the building, nosing about to discern what this building was and how to get to the food and warmth, avoiding detection, but well. He wasn't perfect.

Be careful approaching him here. Upon grabbing his attention, his head would snap up and his ears flicker towards whomever made whatever sound they did to pull him away from his investigations. They would have one very big lion sizing them up with a twitch of his tail. As luck would have it for whomever did approach him, lions were ambush predators, so he wouldn't bother attempting a hunt knowing that he's been spotted out, but he is still quite wary. ]

[ c ] Northeast

[c1] passing by young avengers hq and abandoned buildings
[ Following the winds, he found himself heading towards greener fields and more open spaces--much more suitable for a lion, albeit it was still cooler here than he liked.

He paced carefully through the buildings--most were silent and downtrodden, and he even nosed about empty buildings. He managed to squeeze into one of them, and took his time looking through the empty rooms, occasionally nudging some of the vegetation to make it move, and pulling at some of it with his teeth(not terribly hard, just to see where they lead and came from). It smelled damp and musty, so he quickly slithered back out through the way he came in.

Someone might just hear a ruckus of crumbling rubble--the crunch and whine of metal, sliding rocks, and the crash of their falls--and investigate in time to see a lion leaping his way up on top of one of the abandoned buildings to get a safe vantage point. Or they might not make it in time, and just come on scene to a lion on the roof. That's also possible. Should they notice the lion on the roof, Mufasa would crouch at the edge of the building to address whomever spotted him, and ask:
I apologize for intruding; I'm passing through, and mean no harm. I only need to know just where exactly this place is. ]

The worst possibility would be coming to investigate the noise and seeing nothing. Should that be the case, the individual would feel eyes on them, and possibly hear the shifting of debris and rocks before having a quarter-ton lion leaping at them with a short, curt roar, and his claws and teeth bared. Hopefully they're fast--or clumsy enough--to avoid getting murked.

(if you want Mufasa to pounce on your character, that's fine by me; I'm down for a quick tussle before both characters realize it's probably a bad idea to maim/kill eachother. if you wanna go w this one and ur at all uncomfortable, just DM me and we can arrange stuff. Otherwise respond to any part of this prompt in any way you would like.) ]

[ c2 ] Hangars
[ Now free of the city and the smothering monoliths, Mufasa paced more freely along through the field. He still paused every so often to lift his head, catch the breeze, and listen, but once he was off of that awful stone ground and his paws sank into the cushion of wet grass and dirt, there was a small breath of relief.

Some ways into the fields, he might even be spotted taking down a gallie in a cloud of dust, grass, and the panicked screams of the other gallies as they scattered.

Characters might see said lion carrying the carcass of a gallie in his mouth across the field towards the hangars.

As it so happened, Mufasa was looking for shelter. Somewhere safe to hunker down that was away from these primates--but not too far--and might keep him warm enough through the night. He'd spotted a large structure off towards the tree lines, and so headed towards the hangars. On arrival, he'd circle the perimeter, stopping every so often to mind his surroundings, and upon finding an open gate, he'd approach up with no shortage of caution and care, and peer inside.

Inside were great structures that had him looking up to their peaks in awe, and even here, the scent of those odd primates permeated. He'd look around briefly--to either side--and still, he would push his way inside, one quiet step at a time. Though there was a plethora of strange scents--primates, smoke, earthen ichor, and ozone--it was inexplicably warm, something the African lion needed at the moment.

Someone might happen upon a lion sitting near one of the ships' sides near wherever the engines were, pulling the gallie apart with his teeth.

Or they might happen upon him still wandering in any manner of places within the hangar, trying to find a suitable corner to tuck away into, much like a housecat would do on a chilly day.

Or, they just might come to investigate the noises of a carcass being ripped apart and bones crunching, and come instead upon scraps of meat in a pile, and a lion casually licking a paw clean. As he did so, if one got a good enough look at him, they might notice the expressions that ran across his face. In most instances, he seemed rather even keeled and relaxed, but every so often his brows would furrow, much like a human's, or he'd pause to sigh as he lost himself in thought.

Any one of these encounters could all have very different courses of action. ]
