FALL TEST DRIVE MEME

FALL TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application
Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!
This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.
A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.
If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.
So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!
Thread ideas:
Fall in Temba and Sh'Ka
Temba seems almost peaceful, breathing out a sigh of relief after its near destruction. Just southeast of the city one finds signs of the damage in greater evidence. The recent lava flows have taken out large stretches of vegetation, replacing them with fresh volcanic rock left bare at the surface. In some places there's even residual heat given off, especially closer to the volcano that now rests as an unending reminder of what was nearly lost. Meanwhile in the city itself the plants that would normally provide a natural abundance outside of the domain of the greenhouse seem to offer scant pickings, perhaps a result of the intense heat of the summer.
Meanwhile in Sh'Ka fall proves to be a threat, though in a new way this year than in any before. The danger derives from the Blood Vines near the train station. Apparently ash-rich soil only feeds the vampiric plant, and its spines are larger than ever as its vines lie hidden under the mounds of ash, ready for any unsuspecting prey.
Explore
Despite having been protected from being destroyed by the volcano itself and unlike Sh'Ka not having been buried in vast amopunts of ash, Temba still suffered notable damage from the earthquakes that came with the volcano's eruption. Previously restored buildings were damaged and others entirely caved in on themselves leaving them beyond any hope for restoration. The streets and paths are even worse to traverse than they used to be but for what it's worth water and electricity are still working. Most of the time.
Needless to say, exploring is more risky these days as buildings may still cave in without warning and seemingly solid roads may crack open to drop anunsuspecting wanderer into underground caves left behind by the quakes.
And yet the city can still be explored. If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.
Now what's happening with the hangar?!
Try the network!
There be storms...
Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

"You better tell me. And I'll tell you, too." Max gives Kavinsky a genuine smile. If he does dream one up, he's likely going to have Max asking a bunch of questions. And asking to see it.
no subject
"So, looks like this building is a bust so far, but there's always others to poke around in," he added. "Have you gotten set up anywhere yet? Like, for living."
no subject
"Let's go look at another one," Max offers as pulls back to head back out.
"I'm going to stay at the hotel. Some people from home are there. Where do you stay?"
no subject
"That's good. I'm-" he gestured vaguely "-around. Got a little place with a friend from home. Surprisingly, it was her idea." And it might have been a surprise, but there wasn't a day that'd gone by in this place that he wasn't grateful for it.
"This shit's a little easier when we've got friends."
no subject
"It can be," she barely manages not to say something sarcastic to that, in relation to impending doom. Kavinsky seems decent.
"Either way, I want to stick with them. You have anyone else from home here?"
no subject
"It was enough of a shock to run into my ex on day one of being here, you know? Like, of all the people." Would it have been better or worse if it'd been Ronan, though? It would have been complicated, to put it mildly. But not as complicated as both Blue and Ronan being here would be.
no subject
"If that's how it's going to be, then I want them here, at least." The choices to make when home is worse than an alien planet.
She gives a soft huff that might have been a chuckle. What she wouldn't give to see her ex about now.
"Maybe not an ex anymore?"
no subject
"Ehhh, we're working on that," he admitted.
no subject
She smiles. "I hope it works out."
Max cants her head to another building. "How about that one?"
no subject
"Thanks. She-" he hesitated. "She deserves better than me, but I'm not gonna stop her, you know?" He was just going to have to be better, for Blue.
He eyed the building for a moment, considering it. "Yeah, worth a shot."
no subject
She nods her head. "But they're alive here. And yeah. It's a lot of time fuckery. And mind fuckery in general."
Max gives a shrug of her shoulder. "Then be better. Besides, regardless of what she deserves, if she wants you, doesn't that count more?"
She heads into the building with a smile.
no subject
He nodded. "Yeah, that's the plan. She means a lot to me and I want to make up for all the shit I fucked up before." He just...he didn't know if he could keep from fucking up again, but that didn't mean he wasn't going to try his best to be good to Blue.
Following her into the building, he clicked his little flashlight on again, sweeping it around the first room. "Also, you know, if you can't find something you really need in the buildings, there's replicators and shit, too. They're probably reliable."
no subject
She looks back to give Kavinsky another grin.
"You better do a damn good job, then." There wasn't anything any of them could do about messing up once in a while, beyond trying again and doing better.
"Replicators. So they make shit?" Max perks up to that. "Like clothes? Music? Walkmans? Skateboards? What's the limit on those things?" Because there had to be a limit on what they could make, or how much, or Kavinsky wouldn't be scavenging. Or maybe he would be if it's just that much fun.
no subject
"Yes, ma'am." He meant it though, he really did. He was going to do his absolute best.
"Exactly. They can- wait, walkmans? What era are you from? Not even an MP3 player?" He knew what walkmans were, at least, even if they felt sort of- ancient, to him. "I haven't used the replicators that much but it's like- nothing too big from what I've been able to figure out. I dunno if there's a limit but- probably."
no subject
Max raises an eyebrow. "Ma'am? Is that her training?"
"1986," Max answers with slightly wide eyes. "What's an MP3 player?" Because that isn't anything she's familiar with.
no subject
His face scrunched up in confusion. "What?" He wasn't sure he was following.
"Damn. I wasn't even born then. And an MP3 player...plays music. I guess you could say it's like a walkman except digital. I mean, it's digital storage, about this big-" he gestured with his hands. "I've never really used an iPod or anything though, just my phone." Which made him pause again. "Did they have cell phones in the 80s? I'd show you mine but it didn't make the trip with me."
no subject
"Not even born? What year are you from?"
Now Max gives Kavinsky a look of confusion.
"If it's this," she mimics hus gestures, "small, what's the point. How much music can something that small hold?"
Max shakes her head. "Never heard of that."
no subject
"No, it's- digital. With like, microchips and shit. Depending on the chip size, or whatever, it can hold hundreds of songs. Maybe thousands? I dunno, I've never put that much music on anything. If I ever get my hands on a cell phone or iPod, I'll show you."
But he couldn't exactly do that right now. The closest thing he had was the stereo he'd dreamed for his and Blue's house, but that was hardly comparable.
no subject
"Thousands...." Max's eyes widen to that as she considers how much music that can hold. It's barely an amount she can conceive. The closest she can imagine is a radio studio, but it's in a tiny little box.
"Yeah. You have to show me."
no subject
"Technology is really cool. I hope, after all this is over, you get to get your own MP3 player some day." But also he was already thinking about dreaming one for her, because she seemed nice and he frequently felt inclined to do things for nice people. The only problem was the actual music part, since he wasn't acquainted with 80s songs and he didn't know what sort of music she was into. He'd have to mull it over for a while.
"Wait- was there internet in the 80s? Oh, man, you're missing out on so much cool shit. I mean, I guess we've got something like internet here but not really." And unfortunately, the internet wasn't something he could replicate or dream.
no subject
The music part be a little rough, yes. But maybe Max should be exposed to some new stuff from later anyway. Could be a whole new experience.
"No, no internet, either." Beat. "What is that?" It might have existed at the time, but exposure was very limited, enough Max just sort of stares at Kavinsky, confused.
"What do we have here that's like that?"
no subject
Kavinsky was maybe not the best person to take music recommendations from, but that also depended on the person in question, he supposed.
"It's-" Oh no. He was realizing he wasn't exactly sure how to describe or explain the internet to someone who wasn't already familiar. "It's like- I dunno how it actually works, but it hosts websites and more or less everything you could imagine, and you can talk to people around the world or play video games with your friend down the street. It's just full of information and fun shit like music and movies and-" don't say porn, don't say porn "-whatever your heart desires."
He tilted his head thoughtfully. "We've got a network here, that lets people communicate with like, text and video posts and stuff. So it's similar but not the same at all."
no subject
She isn't sure how many of his words she even understands - website? - but Max does understand one thing. Video games also get an uplift in the future!
"What kind of video games?" Pause. "But what happens to arcades? Do they have internet for the games?" She used to like going to the arcade, getting out of that house for a time.
"Oh, that. I'm still trying to figure how to use it. My friend called me, though."
no subject
"And arcades are still around. Pinball machines, claw machines, the whole nine yards. They're kind of retro now but they're cool. Don't know if any of those use the internet, though." He hadn't exactly asked about it.
Nodding, he added. "You'll get the hang of it. It's a little tricky cause, uh, the Agrii call things weird shit sometimes. I could help sometime, if you need it."
Can be totally vague about the instructions
"Too bad I can't actually see any of this internet stuff." He's lucky this isn't two years ago or she would be sarcastic about it. She actually believes him, though. Kavinsky seems genuine.
"Can you show me now?" She figured put a couple of things, but was still not sure about some of it.
